Hi,

Tesco has stopped stocking a Free From Smoothie that contains a high level calcium, and is very well suited for allergy children.

My DS has multiple allergies and it is very difficult to get enough calcium inside him. These smoothies are the only thing he accepts and 3 of them give him enough calcium for the day. They were especially good not just because of the taste but also because of the design of the pouches, which are almost the same as Ella's kitchen pouches, and my DS was already familiar to them and took a liking to them immediately.

Unfortunately Tesco has stopped stocking them and discontinued them. With a multiple allergy child it is very difficult to get enough nutrients in them, and this is a big blow to many, including us. Would you be kind enough to sign this petition asking Tesco to restock them?

Thanks! :)

Ill sign for you. I know how hard it is with allergies and fussy eaters.

Well Hoop, I don't think this is a thread that is particularly sensitive and as I was on my way out I quickly posted that as it had worked for a friend, really no biggy if it was said before.

Hope you get a solution OP. Have you tried doing anything on Twitter? Twitter seems to make companies jumpy.

Are you a member of any groups on Facebook etc specific to dealing with allergies? Maybe you can get them on the case.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/08/2014 14:22

Could you add the calcium syrup to a different smoothie in a pouch, OP? One that was suitable for your ds?

My dses are much older, so I don't know the design of the pouches - so forgive me if it is impossible and I am being stupid.

This is as ludicrous as the petition to make holiday companies charge lower prices in school holiday periods. Market forces dictate what is sold and for what price. Tesco is not a charity to promote the health of children with allergies.

This post by Meloria is a perfect example of the not-breaking-guidelines-but pretty-damn-offensive-posts that litter aibu. Why on earth could you not put your thoughts more politely? You are belittling the op's concerns and more or less writing off the experience of posters whose children have extremely limited diets due to allergies. What a travesty of reply! I shan't bother to report because it is not my place to do so, and hq wouldn't delete anyway because it hasn't broken their nebulous talk guidelines.

I used to buy the smoothies. They were tucked away in the small, chilled, Free From section. Had the product also been available in the regular chilled section (pretty sure I've seen more expensive equivalent smoothies there since), sales might have been much higher. OP, I think your best bet is to speak to Tescos and find out what their processes are for re-instating a product.

My son is dairy and soya intolerant and he loved these!

He drinks 'KoKo' coconut milk - I'm yet to find a Tesco that doesn't stock it. He has two sippy cup's worth a day and according to his dietician, this more than meets his daily calcium requirements. (He's 3)

I'm assuming that your little one can tolerate coconut as the smoothies are coconut and banana. Could you give him some KoKo milk?

X

ChangeIsNear · 30/08/2014 16:24

Roken, sadly he completely refuses koko milk. I've tried sweetening it too but he refuses.

Are they long life OP? Can you buy a years supply and gradually but persistently introduce the suggestions of other posters?

KoKo comes in chocolate and strawberry flavour too :) worth a try? I've been lucky in that my DS has quite happily guzzled his Neocate and now his KoKo (we had a period of Alpro and then lactofree in between that's best forgotten!)

Our dietician gave us a booklet of high calcium dairy free foods - do you have something like that?

Baked beans, oranges, sardines etc

Apologies if you've already got this / been down that route x
