Had to come through the living room today with our pram, it was wet and left a muddy trail. I cleaned up but just saw Ds with something in his mouth, I prized his mouth open and he was eating a little bit of soil abd it looked like there was abit of a grey worm in it. He was on the floor for two seconds, I have no idea where it came from? Possibly dds shoes as I cleaned up after the pram. Please help I'm freaking out!,

Drs is closed, should I go the walk in? I know I'm disgusting but I gave it a good sniff and it smelled just like soil. The worm like bit was dark grey, it could have just been slimey leaf but it was all chewed up. I feel sick

Mine had a guinea pig poo in her mouth earlier. They really are mucky creatures aren't they (children I mean)
Try not to worry too much. I'm sure he'll be fine. Keep an eye on him and get ready to tell all his girlfriends about it in future years.

LightastheBreeze · 29/08/2014 18:23

Even a tiny bit of dog poo has got a horrible smell, could it have been a garden worm in the soil.

donefornow · 29/08/2014 18:24

I was really worried about paricites and other nasty bugs/germs.

littlewhitebag · 29/08/2014 18:25

He will be fine. All children eat mud/worms/sand. If you smelled and it smelled like mud then mud is what it was. What would you expect the Dr to do?

donefornow · 29/08/2014 18:25

It wasn't a whole worm by the looks of it just part if one, definately dead, it obviously wasn't poo in his mouth then..

donefornow · 29/08/2014 18:26

Just reassurance that he would be ok really, I'm a major germaphobe and this has me really panicky

Ds 2 was caught drinking the horrid water out of his wet play pirate boat, outside that I forgot to empty.

londonrach · 29/08/2014 18:27

The heathly adults Are those that eaten worms As a child. Relax. Keep a. Eye on him. X

littlewhitebag · 29/08/2014 18:28

How old is your DS? Once he is mobile and toddling around gardens and parks the likelihood is he will pick up and eat random stuff. You need to try and not panic about it. Children tend to have good constitutions.

ikeaismylocal · 29/08/2014 18:28

He'll be fine! Me ds had goose poo in his mouth last month, I had to wipe his tongue with a baby wipe.

donefornow · 29/08/2014 18:29

He's 15 months

Ah, that's prime muck and worm eating age I found Smile
You'd know if it were dog poo pretty quickly, it was more than likely soil with a side order of worm. Keep an eye on the nappies for tonight and tomorrow, the colour should give you an idea of how much they ate

ArsenicyOldFace · 29/08/2014 18:38

Even a tiny bit of dog poo has got a horrible smell

Yes this. I think you'd be able to smell it.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/08/2014 18:39

Observing friends with DCs:
. PFB eats wormy poo dirt - mum calls GP
. 2nd child eats dirt - mum wipes mouth
. 3rd child eats dirt - mum wonders if she needs to serve lunch today?
. 4th+ child - mum's too busy to notice

Nancy66 · 29/08/2014 18:51

My daughter ate cat shit out of the litter tray when she was about 10 months. She was absolutely fine.

PamBagnallsGotACollage · 29/08/2014 18:53

Yep. Poo stinks. I also fear germs but have to tell myself that my son does not and eating the odd bit if mud won't hurt him. They all do it. Gross but true. Don't panic- easier said, I know, but he will be fine Smile

Georgethesecond · 29/08/2014 18:58

Please don't bother your doctor for reassurance. She is there for medical advice, not that. There's nothing to be done now, whatever was eaten. I'm sure it will be fine.

LividofLondon · 29/08/2014 19:14

You'd know if it was poo because it would reek. If it smells like soil it was most probably good old fashioned soil...with half eaten earthworm. Yum! Isn't a bit of dirt supposed to be good at developing a strong immune system or is that an old wives' tale? I know I was a dirty child, handling lots of animals, playing in soil, and only washing my hands when told to, and I have a cast iron constitution. Could just be a coincidence, but...

Idontseeanysontarans · 29/08/2014 19:19

The elderly lady across the street always says that a healthy child eats a peck of dirt before they turn 18 Smile
Worms are optional...

donefornow · 29/08/2014 19:34

The worm was thin and dried up, looked pike a tiny skinny earth worm.... Just dug it out of the bin to show dh Confused

I'm a GP and work in Out of Hours - we get a lot of phone calls about this type of thing! Its no problem to us if parents ring for advice, no matter how silly they think it might be, but in this case I wouldn't worry if I were you.

donefornow · 29/08/2014 20:47

Thanks laurel! That's very reassuring
