To feel a bit sorry for all those babies having to wear those triangular dribble bibs?

I know how they are supposed to sit. And I know how they are supposed to lay and I know how they are supposed to look.

Except they dont. They dont sit in a nice comfortable triangle under their chin to catch the dribbles, they ruck up so they are over their chin and bunch up around the neck.

In warm weather Id hate to have that round my neck. And Id hate to have something constantly riding up around my chin and mouth.

I just used to use a muslin or have a couple of top changes during teething periods.

I know, I need to get a life. But Im bored today Grin.

Or his tshirt even.

HearMyRoar · 25/08/2014 12:24

We used to buy tons of these from eBay as dd was a profuse dribbler. Without them she would have a soaking wet top in minutes and would get a really sore rash all over her chin, neck and chest.

She loved her bibs as they didn't get in the way, stayed in place and had nice patterns or pictures on. They were far more comfortable, going by her reactions, then normal bibs.

I get it, you don't like them. I have no doubt there are things you dress your child in that I think are horrid but that's your business and I wouldn't feel the need to bitch about it on a public forum. Hmm

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/08/2014 12:26

I think they look cool.
Wish they were around when mine were that age.
Yabu op and goady and twatty.

Really, Badvoc?? Is it actually possible to be goady and twatty to ask for an
opinion on a bib?
Good grief . . .

Fizzyplonk · 25/08/2014 12:26

I like them. Worked we'll for us and looked nicer than normal bibs.
Much easier to pack several bibs than several tops.

baxterstockman · 25/08/2014 12:26

'Goady and twatty'?

Bit harsh for a fairly innocuous thread.

WineCraft · 25/08/2014 12:28

Tiani theres a huge difference between me noticing a babys attire and thinking to myself that it looks uncomfortable, to a fellow parent judging a child with special needs.

I understand you are feeling sensitive, but you have very much read something that isnt there. X

And Grin at thinking a bib looks uncomfortable being goady and twatty.

Goady and twatty?

That post was more goady and twatty than the OP. It's an innocuous thread about a bib, FGS - have some perspective.

StrawberryCheese · 25/08/2014 12:31

I've seen a dog wearing one of these. He looked cool.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/08/2014 12:31

If you like the bibs and they work for you and your child, all well and good. If you don't like them, then it is perfectly justifiable to put forward your reasons why they don't work For You. Opinions, people, opinions. You don't have to listen to other people's opinions if they don't suit your own. Nothing twatty or goady about that. This is a discussion

WineCraft · 25/08/2014 12:32

Ive seen dogs wear them too.

I like them! But it doesnt ride up around their chin and mouth though. Wink

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 25/08/2014 12:37

I have a few types of these, the ones from Asda, Tesco etc are rubbish and ride up. I also have a set of bamboo ones, they're fleece lined and a different cut and they are brilliant. Don't ride up and absorb loads.

So, YABU but NBU about some of them.

Madamecastafiore · 25/08/2014 12:37

I think they look better than the hideous ones with ducks, daddy's little princess and my little angel and all that kind of shit on babies and toddlers.

Dd wears the mum2mum ones which are fab.

kernowmissvyghen · 25/08/2014 12:38

YABVVU

Triangular bibs rule.

I challenge you to find one single parent whose child genuinely needs a bib who does not agree with me. And they look cool!

The pirate / cowboy / cowgirl neckerchief look is fab, especially for an older child who needs bibs.

In my head you are one of those people who think sensible stuff like baby grows are a fashion crime and who has no idea of the sheer volume of vomit / dribble that other parents have to deal with. A lot like the smug judgy mothers I had to endure at baby groups when I was spending 24hrs a day mopping up oceans of reflux vomit....

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/08/2014 12:39

Quite!!

ChunkyPickle · 25/08/2014 12:41

For DS1 I made some, fleece backed, cotton fronted, shaped nicely, dried quickly - they were awesome.

For DS2 I had less time, so bought some, and they're so rubbish I just use them for rags - why they couldnt' have shaped them slightly so they sit properly under their necks I don't know.

ChunkyPickle · 25/08/2014 12:42

My favourites this time are some cheapy tabard things from Asda like a t-shirt with the arms cut off which I just push over his head - quicker than changing a whole top, but no hassle at all and they stay put.

WineCraft · 25/08/2014 12:45

I take that challenge kernon I had a big dribbler, but never bought those bibs.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 25/08/2014 12:48

Yes, they are a forrin fashion - they were all the rage Where I Come From a few years ago already and I got some from well-meaning forrin friends Grin

I think they are cool and look nice, but I've never used them because they are just too fiddly (having said that I did use normal bibs on DS2, now 10, when he was tiny as he was a Champion Dribbler and had terrible eczema which was so much worst when he was constantly damp down his front).

Horses for courses
WineCraft, YABU but perfectly entitled to be so Grin

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/08/2014 12:51

Oh, Kernow - don't talk to me about vomit!!! My daughter was a projectiler. No bib (or often, towel) could cope with her emissions. (Aargh)
We would have to spread towels over all the furniture before every feed (and I was b/f ing). One of those bibs simply would not have been able to do the mopping up (even if they had been around in those days) Grin

PacificDogwood · 25/08/2014 12:51

Oh, and my family and friends were all agog that I could raise my lot without those fetching neckerchiefs like here

kernowmissvyghen · 25/08/2014 13:02

See, I found the triangular bit invaluable for catching / wiping without smearing the entire vile vommy content of a newly- filled bib onto the baby's face... I couldn't do that with normal shaped bibs. And a triangle folds nicely and stays folded for removal and putting into nappy bag / laundry when changing bib every bloody 10 mins

I also actually liked the scrunching up at the neck, it made a barrier to stop the liquid going down the neck! Since I used a full sized muslin folded into a triangle when we weren't in polite company, to me they looked positively neat and tidySmile

Maybe you are just more dextrous than me with those normal oval bibs?

The worst, worst are the normal shapes ones from mothercare with thin terry material on the front and plastic backs. They are just a play slide for vom and they give me THE RAGE!

kernowmissvyghen · 25/08/2014 13:11

Evans Grin
Yes, we had towels everywhere!

One of my lowest moments was when DS was about 6 months, I thought we'd done really well to get out of the house without a major projectile event, we were walking around the supermarket and I was aware that lots of people were looking at me - I fondly imagined they were admiring my beautiful baby until I realised he'd somehow managed to vom without me noticing, completely covering one whole side of me and him from shoulder to ankle....

I doubt the precise shape of his bib registered with the horrified onlookersSmile

dobedobedo · 25/08/2014 13:25

YABU. If you get good quality ones with the fleece back, they're brilliant. No more soaking clothes and dribble rash for my baby!

Also you can get cool ones with dinosaurs and all sorts of non cutesy things on them from funky giraffe. They're my ds's favourite!

(and ds1 (9) keeps nicking ds2's bibs and Instagramming pics of himself in them, so he's a fan too)

StrawberryMouse · 25/08/2014 13:28

Urge I hated the dribbling phase. Bib after bib after outfit washed. Would have bought these for both mine.
