Monsoon Dress buttons caught in DD hair

Hello. I am trying to find out if anyone one else has had a similar problem with a monsoon summer dress. The dress has tiny square buttons down the back and when my daughter wore it to her birthday party on Saturday her hair became entangled badly enough that I had to cut it away from the buttons. I have been complaining to monsoon and they have assured me that the dress was tested but were unable and possibly unwilling to tell me how this was done with a child with long hair. My daughter's hair is quite long and it was French plaited with the length of the plait coming down the middle of her back so it was testing on the buttons. I think there is nothing unusual about the my 8yr ( she was 8 on Sunday, this dress is age 9 because my daughter is very tall, she has size 3.5 feet ) old having this hair style.

Monsoon were quick to tell me that no one else has complained. IN interested in trying to find other people that have had similar clothing issues. Has anyone ?!

(also if there is a better place to place this please tell me !)

Fantastic thread!

I was expecting this to be a "posted here for quick answers how do I untangle the hair from the button" type thread not someone actually thinking it warrants a complaint!

Tikimon · 20/08/2014 16:16

Hair gets caught in everything. There's a reason I cute my hair to chin length when I was 7, I was sick of it getting tangles and caught in my dresses.

BasketzatDawn · 20/08/2014 16:21

I once caught my coat in the front door, so tightly I couldn't turn to open the door again. I had to ring the bell and luckily MrB was still in and was able to release me. I later realised I could have removed said coat and sorted the problem that way. Blush I should have sued my parents cos they made my brain. Disclaimer: I was on point of missing bus and it was a very cold day.

Laura Ingalls Wilder used to do her dress up by putting the buttons through the buttonhole from outside to inside (so the buttons were folded in) because she hated her plait catching on the buttons.

Her mother used to rebutton her dress properly - now there's a potential AIBU - "AIBU to think my dd should just suck it up and stop complaining about how uncomfortable it is when her hair gets caught round her buttons?"

PunkHedgehog · 20/08/2014 16:30

Not just you Sisters of Percy, I've also shut my hair in car doors. And got it rolled up in tops, so even pull-on garments with no fasteners aren't an infallible solution.

Bettercallsaul1 · 20/08/2014 16:40

Hilarious thread! Excellent mid-week hoax entertainment, OP! You certainly know how to press the collective MN buttons! (sorry!)

Delphiniumsblue · 20/08/2014 16:41

Definitely one for classics. Long hair gets caught in buttons! That is life.

MissBeehiving · 20/08/2014 16:56

I got my hair tangled in some candyfloss at Disneyland earlier this year, during a sudden gust of wind

Delphiniumsblue · 20/08/2014 16:59

One advantage of having sons-it is less likely but not impossible- as mine have proved over the years.

wifeandstepmum · 20/08/2014 16:59

I thought I am the only freak in town for often getting my hair caught in my car door (or so DH tells me). amazing it happens to others too. I'm 5'7'' (size 8 feet) and driving mini -big girl, small car- so shouldn't be surprised that this happens really, but maybe there is something the manufacturer could do to guard against it, to help big blondes not look so foolish or ruin our hair styles? Does watchdog still exist? They may be able to help me?

MyFairyKing · 20/08/2014 17:01

This is a great thread. I particularly love the photo of the hair caught around the button.

DarkHeart · 20/08/2014 17:02

YABU and ridiculous

NanooCov · 20/08/2014 17:15

I love that this has turned into a "I once got my hair stuck in..." thread!

My hair is only a short bob to bottom of ears but I once got a whisk stuck in it. Was being a dick and tucking it behind my ear so my own fault really.

Itsfab · 20/08/2014 17:15

Even if Monsoon did tell you what their testing process contains what would you do with the information? It isn't the rarity you seem to think it is for a dress to have buttons down the back. Heck, even ladies dresses too sometimes. This smacks of you wanting compensation and feeling like you have been a victim in some way.

Not that I expect you will be back Hmm

nocoolnamesleft · 20/08/2014 17:16

Actually, I think I probably have tangled my long hair around the buttons of at least one Monsoon outfit. On the basis that I used to have at least one Monsoon outfit that buttons at the back, and any time I wear any outfit from any manufacturer that buttons at the back, I then end up swearing I will never do so again. Often lots of swearing. Of course, much of the time I wear my hair up, so I can't tangle it in buttons, zips, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, cardoors, food, icecream (trying to eat icecream in a cone at the seaside!) fans, garden plants etc. Instead it just tangles round the thing I use to put my hair up...

Occupational hazard of long hair, I'm afraid. Hmmm, I think I inherited my hair type from my mother. Could I sue her, perhaps?

Itsfab · 20/08/2014 17:49

SistersOfPercy - I have trapped my hair in my car door quite a few times Sad. Who do I complain too?

PunkHedgehog - I found 2 nappy pins yesterday from when the kids were babies, shall I make an outfit and use them do you think? Grin

chopinbabe · 20/08/2014 17:53

Just popping on to say that I feel sorry for the experience your little one had.

It is awful to see our children upset, especially when it is caused by something they were looking forward to as, in this case, wanting to wear a pretty dress.

However, I don't think the shop can be held responsible. Maybe ask your daughter to make a tape recorded message about how she felt and send it to Head Office. This would allow her to feel that she had at least put the experience on record but then I would think I would be inclined to put the incident behind me and move on.

Amazed at grown women trapping themselves in bed because of their long hair. Maybe a trip to the hairdresser wouldn't go amiss.

Canshopwillshop · 20/08/2014 18:04

Its not just buttons that are evil, DS got his willy caught in the zip of his trousers once - now that was painful!

Delphiniumsblue · 20/08/2014 18:05

The big question is -has anyone managed to never tangle their hair in anything?

odyssey2001 · 20/08/2014 18:11

I got my hair caught in my sunglasses the other day. I shall complaint to Next and demand that they give me one billion dollars! In fact, my son pulled my hair the other day. Who should I complain to about that? Does Mother Nature have a complaints line? Is it a free phone number?

Absurd post.

Misfitless · 20/08/2014 18:22

chopinbabe..really?

It is no doubt pretty scary for a little girl to have her hair tangled up in a button, but by getting them to record a message about how she felt???

That's just making a bigger deal of it than it needs to be imho.

It's not Monsoon's fault, so why waste their time and hers, by getting her to record a message?

She should have already put the experience behind her and moved on by now, although given that her DM has a whole thread about the experience, that is probably unlikely!

Let's try and build up our DCs' resilience, not teach them they we have to have our feelings validated by blaming someone for something that was just an accident.

Would the OP have been less pissed off if the dress was from George, or Florence and Fred, I wonder? Or Matalan/Primark? Wink

Disclaimer: Most of my DCs clothes are from the above shops, so not being snobby!

Anyway, personally I suspect someone's winding us all up!

Who in RL would feel it necessary to point out that the whole of DC's wardrobe is made up of Monsoon clothes? It's as if that bit's been added in just to get more of a reaction from us all!

Tell me I'm not the only one thinking this is a wind-up?

MissBeehiving · 20/08/2014 18:25

Maybe ask your daughter to make a tape recorded message about how she felt and send it to Head Office.

I LOVE that idea, maybe with a [sadface] picture and some of the actual hair.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/08/2014 18:26

Maybe ask your daughter to make a tape recorded message about how she felt and send it to Head Office

This thread has taken an even more amusing turn!

And short of shaving my hair or running toy cars over it ,I'm not sure how I can stop my hair getting caught in things!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2014 18:32

Recorded message?????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!!

Sorry but that is even more bonkers than the original OP.

chopinbabe · 20/08/2014 18:36

I suggested the tape, not as a way of trying to get money out of Monsoon (which I think would be unreasonable) but rather as a way of letting the little one know that she has a voice (both literal and metaphorical) and that it can be used to register feelings of hurt and disappointment.

Having made a tape, or written a letter, I would then move on as other posters have suggested.

Unfortunately, I can't quite bring myself to join in the hilarity surrounding a child's bad experience.

I think the OP is perfectly genuine as she has provided 'ocular proof.'
