I really want it... (For my DD obviously, fetching as I'd look in a mouse romper.)

DH says £40 is ridiculous.

I'm hoping people side with me so I can order it for our holiday Wink

Well, it looks ridiculous, this is true, but kids like ridiculous so I don't think the fact it is silly is a problem. Kids love to dress up.

I wouldn't, however, spend £40 on ANY one outfit for a young child. It's a lot to spend on an item of clothing for someone who will grow out of it quickly and before doing so, will probably ruin it anyway.

It looks fairly simple. You could easily get an old pair of dungarees and turn them into a mouse costume.

pickles184 · 20/08/2014 09:22

Sorry, but no I wouldn't waste £40 on this, Next have some very cute rompers that IMO are better and certainly cheaper

ethelb · 20/08/2014 09:29

As a fellow Not on the High Street seller I feel the need to defend a co-seller.

NOTHS is made up of independent sellers (maybe some aren't as small as they make out but a lot are) and on top of the higher costs associated with being a smaller seller compared to larger seller which I imagine is what many are basing your idea of a sensible price on, partners pay commission to NOTHS. The seller has also charged less for P+P than it will actually cost them to send it.

Part of being an independent seller is identifying niches in the market which by definition means you won't appeal to everyone. Knowing the costs associated with being a small seller I'm pretty sure the maker hasn't made a huge margin on it.

There are far bigger rip offs on NOTHS!

UptheChimney · 20/08/2014 09:39

I'm not questioning the price. It's the taste!

CotedePablo · 20/08/2014 09:39

Looks cheap. I know that handmade is priced accordingly, but that could be made in about an hour or less.

bruffin · 20/08/2014 09:53

The problem with hand made clothes is they are not that cheap to make. I made my teenage ds a cheap poets shirt for a fancy dress party and I spent the best part of £25 on cheapest polycotton, pattern, thread, stiffening etc and then a quite a few hours labour.
Buying materials in bulk etc would bring price down though
I dont much like the outfit, but I can see why she is charging £40 for it. But i am sure there are much nicer outfits out there for £40

Would you pay £40 for this...
bruffin · 20/08/2014 09:55

I am sorry
I have no idea where the picture of my tortoise came from Confused

Oldraver · 20/08/2014 09:56

Its cute, and yes if I really wanted it I would buy it. I've done it with DS in the past and its not like I was spending £40 on every outfit. I used to buy lots second hand so never felt guilty buying the odd extravagance

allisgood1 · 20/08/2014 09:57

No. Sorry.

Oldraver · 20/08/2014 09:59

I am a seamstress..that would take more than an hour to make.

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 20/08/2014 10:09

£40 for something that is not cute, ridiculous, tacky and something your DD will only be able to wear for a few weeks as summer is almost over and she would have grown out of by next summer. I honestly don't see the need for kids to wear this sort of crap thats impractical but then my dd grew up when this stuff wasn't around

sashh · 20/08/2014 10:38

I wouldn't buy it at any price, the only fastening is the bows on the shoulder, assuming your child is toilet trained can she tie and untie bows on her shoulder?

Even if she is still in nappies that means her getting virtually aked for every nappy change.

herecomesthsun · 20/08/2014 10:43

Well, looking at Boden here there's a lovely mouse top that I might get (with a big enough discount or in the sale) and a lovely pinafore (that I would have been happy to pay £20 for in the sale when DD was small enough to fit it!). Pinafores age 18m-3y are great, they take ages to outgrow, very practical, you'd get your money's worth with that, very cute and all. Then you could easily sell it on or give it to an enthusiastically grateful friend.

Thenapoleonofcrime · 20/08/2014 10:45

shhh that's a very good point, the mouse dress (which is very overpriced but cuter) would be better and she wouldn't grow out of it for a year or two.

Stinkle · 20/08/2014 10:52

Yep, I'd buy it.

Stinkle · 20/08/2014 10:54

Actually, just saw the dress.

I'd get that instead, probably get more wear out of it - wear now as a summer dress, add tights and long sleeve top in the winter

herecomesthsun · 20/08/2014 11:00

just saw the velvet mouse cape that goes from 1-3 years...

Allalonenow · 20/08/2014 11:10

You could buy a tee shirt and embroider or appliqué or fabric paint the face onto it for a few quid.

Numanoid · 20/08/2014 11:15

It's not worth £40.

OwlCapone · 20/08/2014 11:27

Oh, the cape is gorgeous!

KoalaDownUnder · 20/08/2014 11:57

Either of the two Boden mouse dresses are WAY better.

miceinthemouseorgan · 20/08/2014 12:34

Get it get it it's soooooo cute! And get one for me while you're at it, I want one Smile

ApplebyMennym · 20/08/2014 12:43

It's adorable, but I couldn't justify £40 on it!

halfdrunkcoffee · 20/08/2014 12:46

I might for a good quality coat or jumper but probably not for a romper - but if you can afford it, go for it.

jellybelly701 · 20/08/2014 12:57

I wouldn't be able to justify the cost. I don't think I have ever spent that much on a single item of clothing for myself except my winter coat I have used for about 5 years, so I certainly wouldn't spend it on my dc.

If you shopped around I think you could get much better at a smaller cost.
