so I ordered a new coat offline and I wasnt in for the delivery man this morning (id been to the shop at the bottom of the street and missed him, typical)

when I got in the card through the door said 'in bin'..
so I looked in my rubbish filled bin and the parcel was under a few rubbish bags!

im sure there not allowed to do that? plus today is bin day thank god the bin men didn't come until later!

Years ago a driver left me a card saying 'under car'.

I didn't own a car. But I did live next to a car park Hmm

I've had the recycling bin too. It's still not pretty in there, and being quite short and halfway through the fortnight, it was a long way to lean in. I didn't appreciate!

I was very cross to spot the delivery man casually chuck my parcel over the side gate. It's 6ft tall and he had no idea what was in it.
Okay, it was a new scrubbing brush, but still...

I've not had any parcels left in the bin before as they're behind the gate but what a stupid idea.

Have had them left in recycling bin before but my favourite was card saying parcel 'left at number 40'.

My house is number 40!

I am bemused by the roof one - was he aiming for the chimney in a kind of Santa-vibe? Was the parcel repeatedly thrown until it wedged itself? THe older I get, the more I find myself wondering "but why? Why would someone do that?"

Sometimes I have had parcels left in the cardboard bin (no yukky stuff in there just clean cardboard) I really don't get the flapping re parcels left in bins on 'bin day'. Around here if the bin is not physically put outside on the street it would not be emptied. Surely even the dimmest delivery person would not put a parcel in the bin on the street? Confused

Yodel are shit. I had one left in the mud behind the bins (suppose I should be grateful from reading this that it wasn't in the bin) and one shoved under DH's car. Card for the first did at least tell me what they had done. No card for the second, but online tracking said it was with a neighbour. DH was away and I don't drive his car - it took me days to finally work out where they had left it.

And having read another post, I should be pleased that the car it was left under did at least belong to us and was on our drive....

Happened to me, we were on holiday, neighbours as pre arranged took the bins out for us :(

Gone. Think it was yodel too.

me I'm another weird one then.

My postie leaves my parcels in my brown bin, saves me a long trip to the sorting office.
No chance of the bin being collected as it's not on the pavement outside which is where our bins have to be or they won't empty.

Parcels are wrapped, bit of garden waste isn't going to hurt them. I'm much happier than having to go and get them myself.

Another one whose postie leaves parcels in the brown bin

zaz if he left a card then what is the flapping about? Retrieve the parcel before you put the bin out on the pavement. Better than having to fetch it from the PO Depot I would think.

I've had parcels left in the recycling bin too. 1st time was a pain getting it out as I couldn't reach. Easier than getting the 2 buses across down to the depot though.
2nd time was bin day. Our bins get taken from our front gardens here so no physical putting them out. Parcel was gone by the time I came home :(

Had notification from yodel last Tuesday that parcel was delivered (gift direct to friend). They hasn't had it. Queried it with sellers who now say that yodel couldn't deliver it so have given it to Parcel Force. What?

Those of you who have 'lost' parcel because the bins have been collected before you have retrieved the parcel, what happens? Who have you complained to and have you received replacement goods?

I was really pleased earlier this week when yodel had delivered my parcel and left it in the greenhouse! It's such a pain to reorganise delivery/go to depot! Although why they walked all the way across the garden to the greenhouse is beyond me!

cardamomginger I contacted the company I had ordered from, they said their drivers don't leave parcels in the bin so I emailed them a photo of the delivery card they had put through my door and also told them I would contact the bin company to prove it had been collected that day if necessary.
They were very apologetic and sent me a replacement out with free next day delivery.

What a bloody hassle - having to prove that they did something they are not supposed to do. Glad it worked out for you (and that the replacement arrived before the next bin day!). I should imagine that some companies could get really arsey about it.

As long as they put a card through telling me where it is, I wouldn't mind them putting it in the recycling bin.

On bin day it's left on the pavement with all the others, but normally it's next to the back door & quite a dry & safe location.

It's the not telling me bit that annoys me most - I've waited days for a parcel only to discover it on the tumble dryer in the garage - no idea how long it had been there.....

Me624 - I'm with you. I hate it when parcels go back to the depot. Ours is in the middle of town where I have to pay at the nearest car park and the queue is always out the door and up the street.
I very rarely order online because of this, I might as well just go into town.

I had issues, including a delivery that came 2 weeks earlier than stated, while we were away on holiday. With nowhere to put parcels, as you can't get round the back except through a locked garage, it was inevitable the parcel had been taken. I did check with neighbours on whether they'd taken it in, but no-one had.

I got a refund in the end.

I now use MyHermes parcel delivery to the local shop. I can collect at my convenience and so far it works.

Not everyone's bins go onto the pavement. Ours don't - the bin men come and get them. If they were on the pavement, the pavements would be completely blocked.

So yep, Yodel and Hermes doing the chuck it in the bin risks it going straight to the tip.

The neighbours' garden presented particular challenges in tracking it down. Our own back garden in the rain, with books inside a cardboard box, was also suboptimal.

We must be the only ones with really nice bin men, they take ours from the front garden. Yodel have done this to us before, on bin day, also left parcels with a random card, with nothing written on it, left out on the path. Couldn't even be bothered to write on it and put it through the letterbox.

Royal mail do this thing where you can fill out a form with neighbours addresses that you are happy for them to leave parcels with, we put a few numbers down of people we know have taken stuff before and it seems to have cut down on the treks to the sorting office, which is in a really stupid place and really busy all the time. (full of people who seem to begrudge being there, always hurumphing about the state of royal mail and being rude to the people behind the counter.
