To be devastated by these FB comments

Usual FB disclaimer, I don't habitually FB but my dog has been missing since wed and someone suggested posting it on there.

They posted on out local what's on page and so e people posted claiming to have seen her which is great because none of the rescue places/ dog warden have.

However one person stayed that they had seen her loads, never on a lead and started saying she was clearly not looked after and the owners were very irresponsible for letting her out by herself, several other people haven then gone on to say things like hopefully someone nice had picked her up and will take care of her.

I love my dog, she is fit, healthy and had a glossy coat. To me it's is obvious she is well cared for. People do sometimes comment that she's too skinny but she's a whippet cross ffs! You can feel but not see her ribs through her short sleek coat.

I miss her so much, I keep having to explain to my 2yo dd that yes she is lost but I'm still hoping we will find her.

The thought that someone could be keeping her thinking she is neglected is actually a relief as I have been imagining much worse fates.

I have responded to the accusations with pics if her playing with dd and on the beach but I'm so hurt that people who are essentially my neighbours (smallish village) think this, mostly I just really miss her staring up at me with her wonky smile and saggy tail.

I don't really know where to go from here

Sorry but it's not very clear - did you regularly let her out to run round by herself, or is this person saying they've seen her running round loads since she's gone awol?

Should add that had any one if these FB people phoned her in when they first saw her she would have got hone same day instead of being who knows where for 5 days. One if the sighting reported on FB was on a massive roundabout on the bypass :(

I think it's confusing too - when did these people see her regularly? In the last five days, or over a more protracted time period?

How did she escape ? Don't think you can rely on FB as being representative of opinion nor necessarily the first place someone finding a dog would go to reunite.

For working dogs a sign of them being fit and healthy is that you can just feel their ribs - not see them. Far too many dogs are over weight. So sad to see a dog plodding along, hardly able to walk let alone run.

I hope you find them soon at that FB and posters help. Have you tried asking the local radio?

She has never been allowed to run around unattended. I can only assume they mean since she disappeared.

I do let her off the lead in parks etc because she needs to properly run to be happy but I go with her, I don't just open the door for her to walk herself.

She disappeared while I was getting dd out if her car seat, I was parked on my driveway at the end of a cul de sac. She has been out with us and we were just arriving home.

She categorically has not been just left to wander, I can only assume they mean in the last 5 days

I haven't spoken to local radio actually I will call them.

Then you must respond - "She has been missing for FIVE DAYS! We are not negligent owners, she is well loved and looked after, but if you have seen her, it is because she has been AWOL for five days...we are very worried!"

They are assholes.

I posted something slightly less shouty about how long ages been missing and pictures of her out for nice walks or playing with dd, in the hope people will she is loved.

I can't help but be really upset though, I'm worried enough, why try to poison people against me :(

When was the last time she was sighted? Got to be reassuring that people have seen her - even if they are being arseholes about it

Yes it's spite. Some people get off on making other people's grief worse because it's on the internet and then think no-one can stop them.

I do hope your dog is found sooner than later and you have plenty more years with the wonky smile and saggy tail.

Have you tried posting on the local selling pages of Facebook.

My local pages every other week has photo of found/missing dog always with happy outcome.

There are some nasty individuals if trolls on FB, who are spiteful cowards. I bet she haven't seen him, she was making it up,to cause trouble. Even a Robin Williams children have been trolled

Please also ring the dog warden, in case she's been picked up.

As sunbathe said, check with the local dog warden. Last time one of mine went AWOL, she had been handed to the local dog wardens and was at a kennels. We picked her up a day after she went missing and the release fee was already well over £200.

Sorry OP, retread our post and saw you had already tried dog wardens. Have you also tried local police? Or vets?

Police, local vets, all the shelters, councils dog warden, Sspca and lost dogs Scotland

Haven't yet tried the taxi one yet or the selling pages on FB, bit worried about then after this
