To be devastated by these FB comments

HerrenaHarridan · 17/08/2014 14:19

Usual FB disclaimer, I don't habitually FB but my dog has been missing since wed and someone suggested posting it on there.

They posted on out local what's on page and so e people posted claiming to have seen her which is great because none of the rescue places/ dog warden have.

However one person stayed that they had seen her loads, never on a lead and started saying she was clearly not looked after and the owners were very irresponsible for letting her out by herself, several other people haven then gone on to say things like hopefully someone nice had picked her up and will take care of her.

I love my dog, she is fit, healthy and had a glossy coat. To me it's is obvious she is well cared for. People do sometimes comment that she's too skinny but she's a whippet cross ffs! You can feel but not see her ribs through her short sleek coat.

I miss her so much, I keep having to explain to my 2yo dd that yes she is lost but I'm still hoping we will find her.

The thought that someone could be keeping her thinking she is neglected is actually a relief as I have been imagining much worse fates.

I have responded to the accusations with pics if her playing with dd and on the beach but I'm so hurt that people who are essentially my neighbours (smallish village) think this, mostly I just really miss her staring up at me with her wonky smile and saggy tail.

I don't really know where to go from here

Btw we had a dog found on a local bus was reported on local paper the comments on it were awful calling the owner a bad owner etc he said the dog got out by accident and slipped by them it happens our dog has done that I hope you find your dog soon x

KnackeredMuchly · 17/08/2014 16:52

Also post on www.doglost.co.uk

HerrenaHarridan · 17/08/2014 16:55

She's usually such a stay by dog, I actually chose her because of her homing skills.

My ex has her mum, I helped birth her, I have watched her develop from a tiny eyes glued shut ball, when we first started putting the pups in a pen in the garden she always used to break out of the pen, first time we searched frantically for her after that we knew to just go and look on their bed and there she would be :)

She is up on dog lost Scotland.

Unbelievable that people would troll rw's kids good grief. I was something saying his dd had left twitter after being sent disturbing images. Just why?

Is this her?

hamptoncourt · 17/08/2014 17:18

WOW! It really looks like her - I hope it is her OP.

If not, I do hope you find your dog soon. I would be devastated too if I lost my dog, but don't let what some idiots put on FB upset you.

Thanks
Floop · 17/08/2014 17:25

I hope she comes home OP Thanks

TheReluctantCountess · 17/08/2014 17:30

That really looks like her!
Dogs can travel a long way - we once found a dog that was missing from 200 miles away.

spanky2 · 17/08/2014 17:33

I agree hamptoncourt.

NoNoDontEatThatBloodyHellFFS · 17/08/2014 17:34

Don't let a few arseholes put you off doing everything you can to get your dog back. Try the FB selling pages local to you, and any dog training, rescue, local club pages etc.,

Is she microchipped?

If you can follow up any reports of her being seen, especially if she might be out near a busy bypass. Park up somewhere close to and call her name/go hunting around for her if you haven't already.

Really hope you get her back safe and well soon. My dog died recently and I know what a hole they leave Sad

D0oinMeCleanin · 17/08/2014 17:36

My parents lost their lurcher on holiday. He'd bolted after hearing fireworks. He was found 8 hours later in a town 18 miles away from where he was staying.

Lurcher are in demand in the NE and Scotland. It's also possible someone has picked her up, drove her away and later dumped her for whatever reason.

bbcessex · 17/08/2014 17:42

Some people are twats, OP. Doesn't take much for people to wax lyrical on Facebook, being judge and jury. It must be extremely hurtful.

I hope you find your dog very soon xxxx

sunbathe · 17/08/2014 17:44

Sorry, I see you already mentioned dog wardens. I read your post twice too.

Best of luck in getting her back.

Tallypet · 17/08/2014 17:45

herrena I'm in the same village as you. On the same what's on page. You had one comment about the dog being neglected, not loads. In fact a majority of those comments were of actual sightings of Buckie and that the warden had your dog.

Have you phoned the warden?

SnakeyMcBadass · 17/08/2014 17:48

Oh I hope the warden has her.

TheReluctantCountess · 17/08/2014 17:53

Oh.

BramshawHill · 17/08/2014 18:00

A tip I heard once was wear an old jumper for a while and place it, a few of her toys, bed etc somewhere she was last seen. The smell can attract them and keep them close by next time you go look. Obvs food will attract all sorts of wildlife so keep it just stuff she'll find familiar and comforting

HerrenaHarridan · 17/08/2014 18:01

Dooin, that's definitely not her she had two different coloured eyes. VERY similar though.

Tallypet 6-7 of the comments are a discussion about people who shouldn't have dogs sparked of my one comment where someone claims I've been letting her roam.
One says they hope soneone nice keeps her!

I have been in touch with the dog warden and driven the country roads locally, stopping and calling, I tried going out by sheriff hall today after the comments of FB but no sign.

Sspca definitely haven't got her but they did have some calls that tally with the locations claimed on FB.

OP posts:
HerrenaHarridan · 17/08/2014 18:04

Tally, Yes I've phoned the warden and the Sspca and ALL the shelters. If someone did pick her up on the a7 they have not handed her in. Even if I hadn't phoned all these places so often they now recognise my voice when I call, she's chipped so if she had been handed in they would have scanned her

It's worth posting on a Facebook group called rescue dog forum north east, which despite the name covers Scotland also.

They're a really supportive bunch.

I hope you get your dog back soon.

HerrenaHarridan · 17/08/2014 18:16

Thanks dooin will do that now

herrena not to derail, but there are no such comments. Just the one re neglect but that was merely pointing out that dog owners have responsibilities and that she hoped your dog was safe. There was a couple more of you letting dog run without a lead a number of times.

I do hope you find your dog, but don't exaggerate the responses you received. I know what this village is like, but most comments were actually people saying they'd shared your dog's photo.

There is a lost and found page (NAME OF COUNTY lost and found pets) and (NAME OF COUNTY re homing pets). Don't want to give your/our exact location, but put our county name in the FB search engine.

Repunsal · 17/08/2014 18:39

Really hope she comes home soon OP
