...was a bit unfair?
Ok so you get 3 numbers- you win £25, you get 4 numbers- you win £15!

Even worse was 5 numbers-£105

The jackpot was even under a million. Quite a lot under.

This is obviously a reflection of their price increases last October and I wonder how many people have stopped doing it?

I stopped when the price of a line doubled to £2.....

appealtakingovermylife · 14/08/2014 07:39

Happy it looks like you were one of many who did!
I've had this 1 line since it started in 1995 so kept that but stopped doing others.
Imagine if my line came up and I'd stopped it, that's where they've probably banked on people but these figures are reflecting a massive dip in sales.

Surely if you get 4 numbers you can claim for 3 numbers instead as you got that too. Ok one prize per ticket or do I misunderstand the lotto. Grin

lollilou · 14/08/2014 07:44

I still do it on Saturday because I also do a line for my Dad. I think they should stop the Wednesday draw.

appealtakingovermylife · 14/08/2014 07:49

Londonrach, I thought exactly the same thing but I believe if it's a 4 number win, it will not take account of the 3 number win and will pay out the 4 win prize!
A lot of people have probably dropped Wednesdays, it will be interesting to see Saturday's figures.
There goes my new career choice of lottery winner then;)

I was thinking of starting a thread about this urgent issue myself! It's a flipping outrage. I actually got four numbers - 5, 9, 11 and 23, fact fans - and danced a little jig around the living room at the thought of a bit of guilt-free indulgence money. I was most dismayed when I checked the prize breakdown.

The whole thing's a crock since the ticket price went up to £2 and they introduced the raffle, which I think is leeching the prize fund and depriving righteous winners (ie me) of their dues. [NB i know the whole thing's a crock full-stop, but what can I say. I'm a mug.]

Clawdy · 14/08/2014 09:09

It's unbelievable, just had a look at the website. I got three numbers a couple of weeks ago and was pleased with the £25. Decided I may do the lottery more often but certainly won't now. Even the jackpot was divided between two. It seems to depend on how many people win.

I would be gutted, with 4 numbers you expect the winnings to be a little higher.

FrankelandFilly · 14/08/2014 09:42

I only play when it's a EuroMillions rollover these days. If the jackpot is under £10 million I don't see the point Wink

HouseofEliot · 14/08/2014 09:46

That's really unfair. I got £25 last night for only the second time this year.

The new lottery is a con I only do it as I have had the same line on since day one.

£700000 jackpot last night is insulting.

Who wants the lottery prizes? I am sure most people would prefer that money on the prizes.

HouseofEliot · 14/08/2014 09:47

Sorry meant raffle prizes.

BornOfFrustration · 14/08/2014 09:51

They've taken it too far, lotto on a Wednesday and a Saturday, hotpicks, thunderball, raffle and the euro.

YouTheCat · 14/08/2014 09:54

I stopped bothering when the price went up, unless it's a big rollover.

I checked out my numbers for the last month's draws and I would have won £50. But I would have spent £48 anyway.

expatinscotland · 14/08/2014 09:55

I stopped when the price went up.

gamerchick · 14/08/2014 09:58

I stopped when it went up. I'll stick on the euro when it's nudging 100 mill but that's about it.

FabulousFudge · 14/08/2014 09:59

I stopped when the price doubled too!

TobyZiegler · 14/08/2014 10:00

You have more chance of being struck by lightning so I'd seriously save yourself £4 a week. :)

deakymom · 14/08/2014 10:01

i used to get lucky dips from time to time never won a thing so i stopped ive not bothered since they doubled the price to be honest if they doubled the price of petrol i would sell my car! (double the cost of food and be a size zero?) i think doubling it was a mistake you could have added in 10p and kept most of your customers but doubling it and people drop it totaly

im considering the health lottery but to be fair i cba to do the lottery most the time anyway i get into a dilemma do i lucky dip it? do i pick numbers if i pick numbers and forget one week and my numbers come up just how gutted would i be! and i always forget to check my tickets DH ends up doing them once every month or so really im not a good gambler

HappyAgainOneDay · 14/08/2014 10:06

I win every month on PBs. It's not much but soon mounts up. Yes, it's a bigger outlay but it remains in the draw for ever. you don't have to keep paying in.

I'd still be doing the lottery if Richard Branson Virgin had won when the licence case up for renewal.

HouseofEliot · 14/08/2014 10:13

As an extended family we have £20000 in premium bonds and on average we win once a year. How are you winning once a month?

ApprenticeViper · 14/08/2014 10:25

I'm another one who can't believe last night's Lotto jackpot! Imagine if you'd seen the winning numbers on TV, recognised them as yours, had your wild celebration, then actually checked the prize breakdown and realised you'd not even got 400,000? I know it's still a big chunk of money, but as a jackpot winner you expect at least 1 million don't you? (or maybe it's just me! lol)

Don't get me wrong, 400,000 is still pretty life-changing, but I certainly couldn't give up work if I won that much.

My mum has had the same numbers since the Lottery started in 1995, but when the price increased to 2 a line she just couldn't justify 4 a week on it, so I pay half of it now - yes, I know we're daft Grin

SouthernComforts · 14/08/2014 10:26

I stopped when the price went up too.

Although its probably for the best. yesterday I played a game of bingo with the kids. Four of us and three prizes. I couldn't even win that and one of the kids was too young to read the fecking numbers.

Smilesandpiles · 14/08/2014 10:43

My parents got 5 numbers once. They were so happy as he was medically retired and mum was his carer...they got £75.

whatsbehindthegreendoor · 14/08/2014 10:50

The reason that the prize was so much lower than normal for 4 numbers was because a lot more people matched 3 numbers than usual. All of the main numbers were 30 or under, meaning, I guess, that lots of people use those because of birthdays or important dates.
I don't mind paying £2 a line because I like to win £25 when we match 3. And sometimes, just recently, matching 4 numbers has given people prizes of well over £100 - £175 I think it was a couple of weeks ago We've done the same numbers since the Lotto began (our birthdays and our son's name), so we're kind of stuck playing them really - would have been gutted to have got the prizes for 5, 5+bonus or 6 last night though!
Mind you, at the moment, I'm thinking the less people play, the more chance of my raffle numbers coming in - £20,000 would do me very nicely! Not enough to change my life, but enough to have a bloody good time with!
