To think Royal Mail don't actually deliver daily to single addresses any more?

I have noticed that I NEVER get any mail on a Monday or Wednesday, as in none. I very rarely get any on a Thursday but frequently get a wodge of letters on a Tuesday and Friday that have postmarks from days before. It's really annoying.

AIBU to think that Royal Mail have possibly cut down the daily deliveries to my address to alternate days as a money saving exercise?

We seem to have a similar situation here, no post in Mondays or a big bunch of for the occupier junk, never proper addressed mail.

We are fairly rural and I can't say I get enough post to really care.

pinkteddy · 11/08/2014 15:53

I got post for four addresses in my street last week. But none for my address! I phoned up and had a moan - they didn't seem very surprised. Its definitely gone to pot since its been privatised.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 11/08/2014 15:54

I've noticed the same. We run a business from home and would have normally have heaps of mail every day - a mixture of private, business and junk. Since the "takeover" we can go days with without receiving anything at all. I've noticed specifically on Saturday or Monday, when lots of companies do a mailing on Friday afternoon, so we would expect to receive various communications on a Sat, Mon or Tues.

Also, posted my Mum's birthday cards recently - mine was posted first class, the grandchildren's posted second class a day or two earlier. They all miraculously turned up on exactly the same day, in the same delivery (and later than a first class stamp indicates). Very puzzling.

Furthermore, our nice posties appear to be disappearing at a rate of knots - the one we have at the moment is absolutely horrible. Rude and miserable. If he has something you need to sign for, he doesn't say a word, just thrusts the package in your hand, followed by the machine, no smile, nothing. He drives his van from house to house, ie, he drives all the way up the road, then delivers the post from house to house driving two feet all the way. It must take him longer to get in the van, start it up, drive to the next house, get out, deliver letters. Get back in van, start it up, drive to the next house, get out deliver letters ... and so on. Utterly bizarre.

Things are definitely going downhill with "Royal Mail", or whatever they're called nowadays.

AnnaLegovah · 11/08/2014 16:16

I've noticed this over the last few weeks (mid size town), our lovely postie has vanished and we're going 2-3 days without post when I'm expecting some then suddenly getting a lot on one day.

Privatisation certainly hasn't done Royal Mail customers any good.

MorphineDreams · 11/08/2014 16:30

Same here I think. I've noticed I go for days with nothing then loads all in one go, posted at different times. Not rural at all

HighwayDragon · 11/08/2014 16:31

I see him every day, I'd notice if he went awol for a day Wink

Groovee · 11/08/2014 16:34

I see the postman every day bar Sunday in our street. I got mail this morning. Usually get mail on a Tuesday or Wednesday mainly for some reason.

LL12 · 11/08/2014 16:36

Same here, different postman each time that seem to enjoy putting other people's post thru your door.
I have decided they do this so that you can do their job for them.

daisychain01 · 11/08/2014 16:38

Our postie is like the 4th emergency service to us, he's better than a burglar alarm! He's so observant and keeps an eye on the house if we are away. He does visit every day as far as I know or if he misses a day, it is random days rather than never being here on a Mon or Fri for instance.

Either that or he spreads the post out during the week so he can pop his head round the door and say hello, hows it going. He's that chatty Smile

He's reasonably young and I cant imagine him not being around!

AnnieLobeseder · 11/08/2014 16:38

Ours comes by every day. My dog informs me thus. Loudly. Hmm

HappyAgainOneDay · 11/08/2014 17:10

I get post every day except Sunday. West Berkshire.

twinkles1974 · 11/08/2014 17:37

I never get post on a Tuesday. Never ever. I mentioned this to my brother (who's a postman) and he tried to fob me off by saying most people post letters on a Saturday (do they?) so you'd get those on the Monday! Billy BS! Yes i think there's some secret Royal Mail system going on that they dont want to share.

beccajoh · 11/08/2014 17:39

We get mail every day apart from Sundays. Assuming we have some to be delivered of course.

MissWimpyDimple · 11/08/2014 17:44

There are definitely days where I get nothing at all followed by big loads the next day. Im in a big city so you would think that wouldn't happen...

coolaschmoola · 11/08/2014 18:06

We live on the edge of a fairly big town so not particularly rural despite being surrounded by fields and woods.

I do see the postie most days but it looks like he does one side of the street a day.

Twinkles - your brother is wrong on his timings, then. If people post on a Saturday, the Saturday collection is somewhere around 7.:30am (incorporating people posting their letters after Friday evening collection). So anything posted after 7:30am on a Saturday morning would not be collected until Monday morning, First Class being delivered on Tuesday.

Most definitely a Royal Mail secret code in place, that none of us are meant to know, but most of us are intelligent enough to work out Grin

doziedoozie · 11/08/2014 18:16

I live in the countryside and don't run a company so, to me, it seems crazy that the postie is driving miles and miles up and down remote farm tracks to deliver mail every day. I'd be happy with a couple of times a week. Or a central PO box at the nearest village that we all collect from (would be an opportunity to catch up with the neighbours).

We've only ever had one delivery a day for many, many years. I can't remember the last time there were two deliveries. We live in a very large, built-up town, not in the remote countryside, and there are posties around everywhere, all the time. We just don't get a good service.

Mrsjayy · 11/08/2014 19:22

Post person here everyday (we have 2 a man and woman) that must be a pita getting bulk post maybe cutbacks in your area?

naty1 · 11/08/2014 19:52

Village location yes noticed in last yr not now gettibg post daily.
If at all i had a pay slip and bank letter go missing within 2 months around oct last yr. I lost x amount of money as i didnt know i had to make a decision on something.

I thinkthey need to be honest as agree about missing appointments etc but i guess noone would pay 1st class.

mermaidstale · 11/08/2014 20:31

I rarely see the same postie twice and have been stopped and asked where an address is by a postman who was from another town.
When we've had no post for a week I know it's being delivered to another, similar address and the people there never bring it round to us.
Postal services are being cut because fewer letters are being sent, partly because the service is so bad.

Alicebannedit · 11/08/2014 20:53

I was talking about this to a friend the other day - I'm sure there's one day a week when our postie doesn't deliver in my small square of 12 houses; I think it's a Tuesday. I may not get post every day but am usually aware of him delivering nearby. He's a lovely postie though!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 11/08/2014 21:24

I think the same, but I am rural. Then again in my last house we were suburbs of a small northern city and thought the same. We moved into that house in 2005 and got our first council tax bill in 2009 (I rang up the previous years and got shouted at by the council worker having a go at me because they definately posted it) I complained once to Royal Mail and got some stamps. I complained again another time and got a letter saying that as they no longer hold the monopoly of the post unless I can prove something was sent by Royal mail then they dont have to do anything. Of course those things that CAN be proved are special delivery or recorded so they will get there, but what about all the normal deliveries? They are the ones not being delivered on time (well they are being better delivered to me now I live more rural)

MaryMarigold · 11/08/2014 21:33

We were notified some time ago that we would only have deliveries on 4 out of 6 working days. No word as to which days! I think it's more like 3 out of 6 now tbh.

It makes sense not to have any/much post on a Monday because most businesses would send out post on a Friday, which would arrive on the Saturday if first class, and very few would send post on Saturday to arrive on the Monday. Weird about Tuesdays though...
