Aibu to expect my London cheese cake to have jam!

A little bit of context:
Been thinking loads about them and walked past a gregs everyday and saw it in the window. They remind me of my nan, her brother used to bring her one in to hospital when he visited, she didn't like them but didn't have the heart to tell him, hence lucky me got one weekly!!

Any way I finally bought one. Munching through I discovered no jam! What the hell?! Just loads of puff pastry, icing and coconut? Aibu to expect out of 4 key components to only get the 3? I am sorely disappointed :(

It would appear there no cheese in a London cheesecake [[http://www.domesticsluttery.com/2014/04/london-cheesecake.html]].

Oh London you wheeze.

squoosh · 11/08/2014 13:59

Or even.....

It would appear there ain't no cheese in a London cheesecake

Superchop · 11/08/2014 14:00

Aware of the lack of cheese, so went in fully expecting that. But no jam? :'(

Oh I clearly didn't even read your post properly!

It is very disappointing for there to be no jam when one is anticipating jam.

willwegetthrough · 11/08/2014 14:04

I'm sure they always had jam in when I was a child, but I'm not sure those I've had recently did. I really only eat them for the coconut anyway, so not too bothered about the jam. What I don't like is that the coconut always seems to be in small pieces these days - I like pulling off a long thread of it and getting a bit of the icing stuck on the end!!

PinkSquash · 11/08/2014 14:06

They had talen the jam out when I last had one too. Really disappointing Angry

ariadneoliver · 11/08/2014 14:07

It appears from the link that the presence of jam is controversial. I'd expect jam because otherwise it sounds a bit bland and yellow for something that's supposed to be a treat.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 11/08/2014 14:14

Oh I love London cheese cakes! I've tried Greggs ones and they are nowhere close to how they should be. There's a bakery near where I live that do giant ones for 80p and they are the real deal complete with jam!

Aldi also sell them but don't bother buying as you'll be disappointed - definitely no jam and too much pastry.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 11/08/2014 14:19

AIBU because they are called LONDON cheesecakes?

There was only one type of cheesecake when I was growing up. That shite with dairy produce in is a dessert, and yes, it should have jam or at a push lemon curd in it.

Superchop · 11/08/2014 14:20

Oh no! How could they think taking out the jam would be a good move. I was hoping the jam had been forgotten in a factory blip I didn't think it was nationwide. I think this has got to me more than It should have

I've never tried a London cheesecake but it sounds as though they should rename them the Cheesecake of Lies and Disappointment.

Superchop · 11/08/2014 14:25

Haha. Maybe I should write to Mr. Greggs and ask him for a product rebranding with that title

Branleuse · 11/08/2014 14:34

YANBU, i would be most disappointed

Olga79 · 11/08/2014 14:40

Couldn't possibly say whether you were unreasonable or not as I 'd never heard of them until this thread.

Selks · 11/08/2014 14:45

You should come up north, OP, and have a Manchester Tart, they always have jam in them (and are bloody lovely).

squoosh · 11/08/2014 14:48

Oooh the Manchester tart looks most appealing. Think I'll go on a whistle stop tour of England visiting every regional cake and bun along the way.

Crinkle77 · 11/08/2014 15:51

This is a first for me cos I have never heard of London cheesecake.

ChippyMinton · 11/08/2014 15:58

I had a Saturday job in a bakers shop and we used to refer to them as shaggy cakes, because the coconut strands were sooo long Sad

Can't recall whether they had jam or not. I favoured doughnuts and eclairs.

nicename · 11/08/2014 16:02

I've never heard of these! I once had a Bakewell tart that had no jam in it. That was very bad.

TellBent · 11/08/2014 16:12

Another one here who has never heard of a London cheesecake - MN is so educational sometimes!

HazzaB89 · 11/08/2014 16:25

I love London Cheesecakes. Most dissapointed that I can't find them anywhere where I live now.

RedToothBrush · 11/08/2014 16:34

I have never heard of a london cheesecake.

Bakewell puddings are far better than Bakewell tarts.

However the most important question is whether you had a spoon and a desert fork to eat it with.

mewkins · 11/08/2014 16:50

The ones I have had recently have had cherry jam in. I am sure they used to have lemon curd in. Am I imagining that???

Superchop · 11/08/2014 17:16

I was a greedy git and ate it from the paper wrapper. No forks or spoons when I'm that excited.

As for the lemon curd I've never had one with that inside. But I saw they traditionally had almond paste in them... Mmm. just highlights what a disappointment today was

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 11/08/2014 20:15

Yep. Almond sponge and raspberry (or cherry if lucky) jam. Like I said earlier, they should be called just 'Cheesecakes' as they are cakes as opposed to dessert made from cheese on a biscuit base. (they are just cashing in on our name)
They should have strings of coconut that resembles grated cheese. Not the shop floor sweeping found in our local gregs.
We used to call them hairy cakes.
