To be naked in my own garden?

startledcavy · 11/08/2014 13:38

My children often play naked in the garden in/around our large paddling pool. The other day it was raining but warm and I decided to join them playing in the mud! (Naked, as did not want to ruin swimsuit) Our garden is not overlooked and has over head-height fence on all sides. But had a snotty note through letterbox from neighbour, saying that her boys had climbed their climbing frame and seen us and please would I not do it again. Surely its her responsibility to stop them from being peeping Toms?

Dorothy - these are my children from a past relationship. Good detective work though :-)

There are kids on nudist camps/beaches.

Not much difference surely??

ShatnersBassoon · 11/08/2014 15:32

If the neighbour's kids were peeping toms, they wouldn't tell their parents they'd seen the woman next door mud wrestling in the nude. They'd have kept quiet and waited for the next performance. They must have been upset by what they saw, to be fair to them.

Mummytoagorgeouschops · 11/08/2014 15:35

Nothing more natural than being nude and if I'm quite honest I think you are setting a marvellous example to your kids too. Surely you being happy enough to play nude with them will in turn mean that they are less likely to have insecurities about their bodies!? Correct me if you think I'm wrong.

Sod your neighbours. They will get over it. We're all born naked after all!

kilmuir · 11/08/2014 15:38

How did you play in the mud? We have had rain, but ground still hard?
Think pants might have been in order
My kids would have been mortified once they got to 6 years old!

Viviennemary · 11/08/2014 15:39

Not wise really. In the days of climbing frames and trampolines. And I don't think they can be classed as peeping toms if playing in their own gardens. Cover up. It's the sensible thing to do.

Idontseeanyicegiants · 11/08/2014 15:42

As much as I want to say 'run free' in all honesty I would probably at least put a swimming costume on for future muddy playSmile
A wrecked cossie must be easier to sort out than scooping mud out of your bits!

Lottiedoubtie · 11/08/2014 15:43

I don't think you can complain about the children being 'peeping Toms'.

I agree you can play in your own back garden naked if you so wish and I don't think it's your neighbours business/right to complain, but equally if you're seen, you're seen.

WyrdByrd · 11/08/2014 15:45

What Mummy said.

Quite apart from anything else you're not likely to be doing it on a frequent basis (assuming you live in the UK), so the 'risk' of them seeing you again is pretty minimal. I would be more concerned for the kids next door that they were so freaked out by the sight of a naked body tbh.

If you can't be naked in your own home/garden, where can you be?

worridmum · 11/08/2014 15:45

Now think on the other side of the scale would you find it approite for your young DDs seeing a male naked neibour in his own garden or would you be rining the police saying OMG theres a pedo exposing himself to my young darlings if they happened to see him naked while playing on their climbing frame has both of these things are the same

and bloody shocked at calling young children peeping toms because you happen to be exposing yourself (and I bet you would be calling a man a pedo if he was naked in his own garden)

StillFrigginRexManningDay · 11/08/2014 15:46

I don't think I would like mud in my fanny.

Feminine · 11/08/2014 15:48

I think you should have worn knickers at least. I am not sure about 'liberating' mud in my bits!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 11/08/2014 15:48

Grinat mud in fanny!

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 11/08/2014 15:48

Ermmm... :o I don't think it would bother me, I think my children would find it hysterically funny rather than upsetting if they saw a neighbor doing similar - then they would tell all their friends and you'd be the gossip of the village...

However wasn't there a thread on here a few months ago where a man was naked in his apartment, and they could see in, and most people were saying he was guilty of a crime (can't remember what, public indecency or exposing himself or something) even though he was minding his own business, not "flashing" or standing by the eindow or anything. So it might be dodgy ground if you know kids can see uou.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/08/2014 15:52

If he was wanking and looking them in the eye I'd call the police. If he was doing the gardening or just walking round the enclosed garden in the nude id think nothing of it and tell my kids to stop being so nosy.

Why assume we'd all jump to paedo accusations because a person dares he naked in their own garden.

Mummytoagorgeouschops · 11/08/2014 15:52

Calling young children peeping toms is a bit flippant and unfair as they are just children playing after all.

It shouldn't bother any one seeing any man or woman naked in their own garden

worridmum · 11/08/2014 15:54

because sadly alot of threads have been to that effect Giles a couple of weeks ago there was a similear thread that happened when her youngs DDs climbed up a tree and saw their next door name naked sunbathing she was advised quite catorgry to call 101 police line as apprently he was wierd could be a pedo and that the police should investigate it etc

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/08/2014 15:58

People advised to call 101 because someone was sunbathing naked Shock

If you have to physically climb a tree to see oer the fence then garden is enclosed enough that it's not an issue surely Confused

Poor man.

JustSpeakSense · 11/08/2014 15:59

Mud wrestling naked with children, in view of the neighbours...? That's gross & odd, put some clothes on and stop making a spectacle of yourself!

Idontseeanyicegiants · 11/08/2014 16:00

I don't get the gross bit...

worridmum · 11/08/2014 16:01

not just someone Giles about 80% of the people but when someone posed the question of oppsite gender its was fine apprently as women have the right to be naked in own garden but men are weird for doing the samething

Bunbaker · 11/08/2014 16:02

"I think my children would find it hysterically funny rather than upsetting if they saw a neighbor doing similar - then they would tell all their friends and you'd be the gossip of the village..."

And if DD had seen you it would be on Facebook.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/08/2014 16:02

It's not in view of neighbours though. They only saw because they were up a climbing frame.

I take that to mean the fence is at least 6ft both sides

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/08/2014 16:06

That's pretty shameful then worried
