...a restaurant that does not provide a dessert fork with the dessert spoon for pudding / dessert / sweet? It doesn't matter what the pudding is; a fork ought to be there.

I like tapioca. No one else did at school so I would get about 10 portions [weird]

RedToothBrush · 10/08/2014 13:39

I really wouldn't be bothered if it was a loud or quiet fuss, if you have been given a spoon which was perfectly suitable to eat with.

I really would think it was incredibly petty and pretentious.

Tenementfunster · 10/08/2014 13:39

Are you a human scale?
Do you need to put same amount of tapioca on the fork just for balancing purposes?

gamerchick · 10/08/2014 13:40

Could you not just use another spoon as a stabiliser?

gamerchick · 10/08/2014 13:41

You might be able to do something really impressive then.

StillFrigginRexManningDay · 10/08/2014 13:48

What if the fork was substantially heavier than the spoon?

Sirzy · 10/08/2014 13:51

There are lots of things made doesn't mean they need to be used constantly. I wouldn't expect to be given a fork with soup either!

gamerchick · 10/08/2014 13:52

I'm trying to picture this.. what do you do with the fork when you're using the spoon? Leave it pointing or bring it up to your mouth at the same time to keep the balance Confused

gladhoc · 10/08/2014 13:58

Like a sort of military drummer, gamer?

GhettoFabulous · 10/08/2014 14:03

I thought dessert forks were non-u. Or is that fish knives?

gamerchick · 10/08/2014 14:05

I dunno.. my brain is still trying to do the who can eat as fast as possible using each hand.

Does not compute none of it. Just use a spoon like a normal person.

freyaW2014 · 10/08/2014 14:08

I'm sorry this thread is hilarious! 'Stabaliser' lmfao!

gotthemoononastick · 10/08/2014 14:11

One needs a runcible spoon sometimes for slices of quince!

bottlecat · 10/08/2014 14:11

Would this apply to mcflurrys as well?

MamaLazarou · 10/08/2014 14:17

Should one hold one's little finger aloft whilst using one's special stabilising dessert fork?

StillFrigginRexManningDay · 10/08/2014 14:22

Ok I have just tried this spoon/fork thing with a muller rice. I stabbed myself in the cheek as my hands brain coordination got confused.

SarcyMare · 10/08/2014 14:28

i was shocked i went into a rather expensive resturant (okay the bar next door) and asked for dessert cutlery for my 3 year old to use, they came back all stompy they don't have dessert forks. I was truely amazed.
it cost us $15 for the burger in the bar no idea how much food in the sit down a-la-carte resturant was, and they didn't have dessert cutlery.

itsmeitscathy · 10/08/2014 14:45

I'm with you OP

HappyAgainOneDay · 10/08/2014 15:05

Thank you Itsme

SarcyMare What sort of thing was offered for dessert? A whole apple? I'd even want to cut that into four or six with a serrated knife.

In my book, I eat with the spoon but use the fork to push things onto the spoon if it's not easy to pick up food with just the spoon. If I want to cut up a strawberry before eating it, I hold it with the fork and cut with the spoon.

Pagwatch I like tapioca, too. I serve it up when I have guests round (I don't tell them what the pudding is though until it's on the table and then they draw on memories and call it frogspawn). Sometimes I give them semolina to finish up packets in the kitchen cupboards but I wouldn't be allowed to put that dish title on here.

Gamerchick You use the dessert fork in the same way that you use the knife for a main course. It's there to help to manipulate the food to the right position to eat. When you lift the dessert spoon to your mouth, the fork rests in your - presumably left - hand, level but pointing downwards over your dish / bowl/ whatever.

I cannot believe that there are people on here who do not know what a dessert fork is for so make fun of it!

ShatnersBassoon I have several sporks. they were given away free so many years ago by Vesta dried meals.

I know what a dessert fork is for. What I am laughing at is your seeming inability to eat using a spoon.

For most foods for which a spoon is used it is perfectly possible to eat them without the use of a fork.

HappyAgainOneDay · 10/08/2014 17:02

Yes, Sirzy - if you're that type ......

Of course, I could eat something like creme brulee with just a spoon but I just think the fork should be there - just in case.

OP posts:
HappyAgainOneDay · 10/08/2014 17:03

...In case it's needed.

OP posts:
gamerchick · 10/08/2014 17:28

Dunno like I manage perfectly well just using a spoon. Maybe a bit of practice would get you there OP and yes I know what one is but to use it the way you described why you needed it was well amusing.

Just tie your hand around your back or something till you get it or something Wink

gamerchick · 10/08/2014 17:28

Or something like that even Grin

YouTheCat · 10/08/2014 17:32

Blimey! I haven't needed stabilisers since I was five - whether cycling or using a spoon.
