To be shocked at the price of fruit on Ocado

We use Ocado every couple of weeks for 'big shopping' like cat litter, cat food, tins, loo rolls, washing powder any offers etc. Sometimes I have a look at other things out of interest. Anyway, kids wanted some donut peaches, which are currently their favorite fruit. So I have been working the last few days and so couldn't get to the local market where we normally do fresh shopping so thought I'd add some to the order. I Kid you not £4.99 for four! Shock

Ouch! I only buy fruit that's on special offer from them.

CookieLady · 09/08/2014 16:53

It's that particular brand, Natoora, which is expensive. If you look at the Waitrose and Ocado own brand fruit it isn't as dear.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 09/08/2014 16:53

Ocado usually quite reasonable on fruit and veg. I got a pack of six for £1.50 at sainsburys this morning as the dc love them.

DurhamDurham · 09/08/2014 16:53

Flippin heck that's pricey.... I paid £2 for a pack of 8 in our local green grocers.

That's because they are the natoora prime brand. They sell them for about £1.50 regular

Teddybeau1988 · 09/08/2014 16:56

Pack of five for £1 in lidl.

Artandco · 09/08/2014 16:56

Ctuly currently £1.25 for 4

2 packs for 6 quid isn't so bad though

Marmiteandjamislush · 09/08/2014 17:08

I've never heard of Natoora, but they don't offer a Waitrose or Ocado of donut peaches though. I just thought it's really steep, over £1 a peach and really, with the healthy eating push, I think it's not a good sign. NB, not only including Ocado in this. Just think that it's shocking that for many fruit will be a luxury now, but cake and biscuits are cheap and filling.

No Lidl yet, sadly.

Needless to say, I'd didn't buy any.

Is is just me that's never heard of a donut peach? I only buy common peaches at Aldi or Sainsbury!

londonrach · 09/08/2014 17:34

Asda and Lldl less than £1 for 4

DinoSnores · 09/08/2014 17:41

Flat peaches are lovely, but rare, which is why they charge more. You could have bought much cheaper fruit if you had chosen to! It is hardly a choice between expensive fruit & cheap biscuits!

Hmm
OneSkinnyChip · 09/08/2014 17:45

They are five for £1 in Tesco at the minute.

I think the flat (donut?) peaches are also now past their season as well as being a premium item. Get some ordinary ones instead - they'll be cheaper and should taste better than out of season ones.

DH was once appalled at the price of cherries for the same reason (high price, out of season). He actually asked at the checkout if they'd been flown over in individual seats first class Blush

londonrach · 09/08/2014 17:48

Bought them (the flat ones) in Lldl last week and paid less than £1 and asda had box for 89p. All donut ones. Not rare as more of them in asda as normal ones recently....must be in season

DinoSnores · 09/08/2014 17:49

Flat/donut peaches are picked until the end of summer, so they are not out of season yet and are, to be fair, absolutely lovely, but I am not sure that they are that much better than decent normal peaches.

Tanith · 09/08/2014 17:50

Must be just Natoora, then. They are a bit hit and miss, and can be very expensive.

Our local farm shop's price for doughnut peaches was cheaper than the OP's Ocado! Most unusual ....

500smiles · 09/08/2014 18:02

Paying a premium for the Natoora brand and the donut - Ocado own brand £1.49

Marmiteandjamislush · 09/08/2014 18:04

Was there any need to be so rude Dino, I didn't buy them and I wasn't saying that cheap biscuits were the only alternative. I just made a comment that over £1 for a piece of fruit is ludicrous and it is understandable that people don't eat healthy options at those prices, yet there is a push for healthy eating! If you find me so Hmm inducing feel free to ignore my topics in future.
