AIBU?

To be shocked at the price of fruit on Ocado

We use Ocado every couple of weeks for 'big shopping' like cat litter, cat food, tins, loo rolls, washing powder any offers etc. Sometimes I have a look at other things out of interest. Anyway, kids wanted some donut peaches, which are currently their favorite fruit. So I have been working the last few days and so couldn't get to the local market where we normally do fresh shopping so thought I'd add some to the order. I Kid you not £4.99 for four! Shock

Veg is actually better for you than fruit. Keep fruit as a weekly treat.

I think I haven't made my point very clearly. These were the peaches I had easiest access to at the time I was Shock at the price and made a comment. What was trying to say is that my kids and lots of others have preference for certain fruits over others, yes we as adults know that a peach is a peach is a peach. BUT my kids like these peaches for some reason at the moment. I am also lucky that I can afford to give my family healthy diet, but many can't without making major sacrifices. Even in the cheaper stores fruits are more expensive than biscuits etc. I just think that we have the equation the wrong way round, people will buy what is cheap and filling, yet it is the parents who are getting all of the pressure not the supermarkets. Anyway, note to self, don't make observations on this part of the site.

I'm aware of that Greengrow, it already is. Hence me trying to get the peaches even though I am working

Natoora are generally silly prices for fruit/vegetables that are either the same taste wise as your average fruit or sometimes not as nice. I often wonder how they survive on Ocado with such poor reviews. The only time I was impressed with Natoora was directly from one of their shops and it was lovely tomatoes.

I'm not angsty Rum, I just don't why people are rude when others make simple observations

Ocado does have fancy things at crazy prices, but it also has normal stuff at normal prices. You don't have to buy the expensive stuff.

That said, I tend to use Ocado for occasional shops for unusual things I can't get elsewhere, and use Morrisons online for daily basics, as it is cheap and great quality.

Is it right that Morrisons deliver now Selks? See because of how we work work, the delivery on Ocado for big shopping as I said, is a boon but it is dear. Also we use it because my Dad, who is a retired teacher, teaches our kids daily at home and he likes that the drivers bring it in and the labelled bags mean he just puts what needs freezering/fridging away and I do the rest later.

So what if she had bought them. People can treat themselves to a nice bit of fruit every now and then.

The flat peaches are expensive but the ready ripe peaches and necterines are 1.99 bogof and are absolutely gorgeous

They are 89p for 4 in Asda OP.

I think Ocado is a rip off. They always say they will price match but when I do a shop on My Supermarket they come out at about £30-40 more.

Massive pack (about 8) in my local Turkish supermarket for £1.25

The kids like the novelty of the flat ones though and at 5 and 3, they don't really get the it tastes just as good thing. Maybe I should try fruit kebabs to get them out of the rut. Any other tips would be good.

Yes Morrisons deliver now, OP, but just in certain areas for now, rolling out nationally soon I think, check their website to see if they deliver in your area. If not Tesco is pretty cheap for basics. Wouldn't recommend Asda online groceries - poor service.

Fruit and veg glory is a massive compensation for living in a shite area.

Today I bought:

A huge globe artichoke - 75p
A bunch of FRESH (ie, yellow and plump and smooth, not brown and wrinkly) dates £1.70
Aforementioned doughnut peaches
Massive bunch of fresh dill as big as my head - 70p

I also bought a kilo of big marinated olives for £4.50
Turkish flatbread as big as my huge arse, made on the premises for 60p
Some utterly amazing single estate honey for £3.00

God I love ethnic food shops.

My local Turkish shop also does these special grapes - muscat I think, which are tiny and jewel like and very very very very sweet.

Also small cucumbers which have loads of flavour unlike the massive waterbombs they sell at Sainsbo's.

Am I making you all jealous?

Minifingers - it can't be that shite, with access to such lovely food at great prices Envy Where are you?

Turkish and Asian shops are often fantastic for fruit, as noted above. Last weekend at an Asian shop in Manchester I got a carrier bag full of various fruits and vegetables (all selected by me) for a tenner, including some amazing mangoes and peaches.

We have a tfc locally. I do shop there for fruit and veg but tend to buy the cypriot foods like kolokasi and cyprus spinach, coriander and flat parsley and elbow cucumbers, daktalia bread and decent pitta breads.
I dont shop there every week because i prefer getting my food delivered now. Must admit the ocado fruit and veg are worth the money, really full of flavour . O dont bother with the natoora brand as it is expensive compared to the other ocado frit and veg
