To not give the betterware catalogue back?

msrisotto · 07/08/2014 21:08

I have a sticker on my door saying no circulars, no newspapers, no leaflets, addressed mail only. I bin everything else and it annoys me that the catalogue distributer wilfully ignored my sign.

I find them irritating but always try to give them back.. They have to pay for the catalogues and they are just trying to earn some money.

Hurr1cane · 08/08/2014 12:20

It might be soul destroying work, but if you have a sign on the door then it's there for a reason. If they want to put a catalogue in a crappy plastic bag thing through my door for my DS to eat then I will bin it in the outside bin before he finds it.

Sorry if thats a shitty thing to do. But I'm not leaving it on the doorstep for him to find when we are coming out of the house and eat either.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 08/08/2014 12:20

maddy68 why are people being horrible when a Betterware agent rings the doorbell to disturb you and have a go at you for losing a catalogue you never had or wanted in the first place? Or have a very clear sign on their door telling sellers not to leave things? Confused

WooWooOwl · 08/08/2014 12:26

I bin them or leave them out depending on how charitable I'm feeling and how messy I'm prepared to have my porch looking at the time.

I have no qualms about binning them.

specialsubject · 08/08/2014 12:31

the 'leave it on the doorstep' concept is saying 'I'm not home, please burgle me'.

if someone has been suckered into a pyramid scheme it is not my problem. You want it back? Don't put it through my door.

FryOneFatManic · 08/08/2014 12:46

If it's the first time I get one from a particular distributor, I leave a polite please do not leave catalogs again note and put them back out. Second time gets a 'I've already asked that you not leave catalogs on our doorstep, any future catalogs will be treated as unsolicited mail and disposed of'. Third time goes in the bin.

I do the same.

I don't have a sign on the door, but a note is just as good.

hoobypickypicky · 08/08/2014 12:55

Unsolicited goods are legally mine to do as I please with. It pleases me to put them in the bin.

EmmanuelWoganberry · 08/08/2014 13:04

No they don’t pay for the brochures, I did betterware a few years ago and didn’t pay for them, unless it has changed since then. Avon distributors do have to buy their brochures.

Bin them, if you’ve asked not to receive one then it’s fair enoug to treat it the same as any other junkmail.

JoinedJustForThis · 08/08/2014 13:20

I put a note on it saying we don't want them - twice.

After that the top of the bag is opened & it's put out where the rain can get in. Once they've collected the paper mache they tend not to leave them again!

msrisotto · 08/08/2014 13:22

Did you really join just to talk about betterware catalogues?

OP posts:
gamerchick · 08/08/2014 13:31

I don't know did you OP?

I'm thinking of kleeneze , those ones had an outlay.

HazelBite · 08/08/2014 13:34

I think many of you are getting two companies mixed up Bettaware and Kleeneeze.
The latter is a pyramid scheme and their distributors can be a rather "enthusiastic" and a bit "driven". They pay for their own brochures hence the need to get them back. They will "work" in any area they choose and as frequently as they want,

Bettaware agents have a designated area which they visit on a rotation basis ie you shouldn't get one of their brochures more than say every 8 weeks, they don't pay for their brochures and work on a commision basis. Their distributors have a strict code to adhere to, if you have a problem with one of them complain to the company.

Can you tell, I've had experience of both!

WafflesandWhippedCream · 08/08/2014 13:34

If you post your property through someone's door without asking them, you can't expect to get it back, surely.

hiccupgirl · 08/08/2014 13:42

No one ever collects the Betterware catalogues from our house. I always leave it out on the doorstop and it stays there until I've had enough of it looking tatty after 7-10 days and then it goes in the bin.

It really annoys me tbh. If you're not going to collect the bloody thing, don't put it through my door.

msrisotto · 08/08/2014 14:10

gamerchick - I was just asking the poster who's username is justjoinedforthis! I thought it was a funny subject to join mn for :)

Ahh.. I thought you were asking and was confused, not that it takes much Grin

Dunkling · 08/08/2014 17:23

I got so sick of plastic charity bags coming through my door, but even more annoying, left littering my doorstep.... not that hard to post is it really? I was in my front garden when a chap delivering them was strolling down the street throwing them into each and every garden, when a bag was launched over the hedge and into my garden. I threw it back at him and shouted 'I think you dropped something mate'.

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 09/08/2014 08:30

I was outside our front a door a while ago buggering about with DS's school bag as we were leaving.

Some guy in headphones tried to hand me a 'charity' bag. I said no thank you. He then went to my front door and tried to shove it through. I told him again that I'd already said no thank you.

I also had a 'Betterware' woman let her dog into my home. Was on a long lead so she could've stopped it but let it just wander in.

Hmm

These people have no boundaries. They don't seem to understand the concept of other people's property/homes.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 09/08/2014 12:16

It seems a bit petty to not leave it outside the door. If they don't come on the stated day then chuck it.

CouldntGiveAMonkeysToss · 10/08/2014 08:28

Yanbu. I keep it by the front door for a week then chuck it in the recycling. Nobody ever comes for it. I also get loads of charity bags. Even if I was going to fill one, there's no way I'd be getting rid of that much stuff. I've lived in this house two months and have 8 charity bags already. Who gets rid of a bag of clothes a week???

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/08/2014 08:47

Luckily I dont have to suffer many catalogues, the charity bags are a different story, I never fill them, I just use them as bin bags.

Takeaway menus from the shit places I cant eat from as their food is so bloody greasy it hurts my tummy. I get those bastards weekly, it winds me up because its normally from the same places.

HappyAgainOneDay · 10/08/2014 13:06

Janethegirl I agree but I don't leave things out on my porch because it's telling potential potential burglars that I might be out and they can get in anyway, it makes the place look unkempt. I keep the unsolicited whatever for a couple of weeks. If a hear a knock at the door and someone wants it back, they get it. If no one comes, it goes in the bin.

Janethegirl · 10/08/2014 13:11

Actually I leave catalogues on the doorstep, there's nearly always one there so it's not an indication of whether anyone is in or not. May even have the front door open in hot weather with one outside.

HappyAgainOneDay · 10/08/2014 13:11

Charity bags = kitchen bin lines.

PlacidApricots · 10/08/2014 13:19

The avon lady by me was what drove me to get a no cold callers sign, I wanted one specifically to include catalogues, she was dropping them, then knocking my door at 8pm dragging her poor little DS round with her to collect. Anything unsolicited through my door gets thrown away immediately, (except a JW leaflet I handed back to make a point)

So I now have my sign on my door for no cold callers (Virgin Media constantly knocking even though I have told them I have VM services already so why are they trying to sell to me? I have everything!) It says on it specifically: UNSOLICITED CATALOGUES WILL NOT BE RETURNED.

Avon lady has seemingly got the hint VM and the odd charity caller have not, the last time was VM "I saw your sign but I thought I'd knock anyway" again late on the evening when my (preschool aged) kids are in bed!!

Ooh mini rant sorry!
