If these people (the Yazidis, an offshoot of the Zoroastrian religion) are killed, there will be no more of them in Iraq and they have been there for centuries (far longer than Islam). So the ISIS Muslims will have ethnically cleansed 40,000 people who have been in Iraq for centuries. I find this appalling, disgraceful and abomination against humanity.

Where is the global outrage? Where are the protest marches against this ethnic cleansing? Why hasn't Warsi spoken out against what is being done in the name of her religion?

Who on earth is funding Isis, this is barbaric Sad

canyou · 06/08/2014 19:01

physically sick at the maddness in the world right now.
DP was in the area with the UN recently and he said this is only the start, and no one is brave enough to make a stand against the extremistsSad

AuntieStella · 06/08/2014 19:04

This is fucking awful.

But I cannot see, after the lies of those who took us to war in Iraq so recently, that there is going to be any will go use force there again.

The removal of Saddam has not led to a safer or fairer place.

FesterAddams · 06/08/2014 19:04

Yawn, another "Israel really isn't so bad" thread.

creekyknees · 06/08/2014 19:09

I didnt read it as an "Israel isnt so bad" thread, its more of a 'the worlds gone fucking mad' thread.

It will be interesting to see what the real agenda of the West is with them allowing the rise of Isis.

mignonette · 06/08/2014 19:20

I don't know what to do other then bombard MP's and the media with outrage and questions as to their editorial decisions behind their lack of coverage.

effinandjeffin · 06/08/2014 19:24

fester "yawn?"

really?

I think you've just proved the op's point.

HauntedNoddyCar · 06/08/2014 19:25

I read it as trying to flag up another outrage because these genocides go unnoticed rather than trying to minimise the killing in Gaza.

This is all awful.

SallyMcgally · 06/08/2014 19:26

Another one who's pretty shocked that anyone's reaction is 'yawn.'

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 06/08/2014 19:28

"Allowing the rise of Isis"? Good grief, where did that language come from?

How about "desperate to stop atrocities but haven't yet managed to"?

I hope the UN/Red Cross/Red Crescent can get help in, but god knows they're stretched thin enough. So much completely bloody awful stuff going on right now, over many countries.

isis bloody terrify me.
they are so evil and organised.

fucking men

FloatIsRechargedNow · 06/08/2014 19:34

I find all genocide, ethnic cleansing and removal appalling and there are no BUTS, but what I can't understand is why a/the race/religion/people tribe so best-placed to explain the horrors of genocide and discrimination - the Jewish people - can justify the 'martial'/murderous actions that are being taken against the Palestiians.

Surely the greatest lesson from history is:

Find Another Solution - not The Final One.

dolphinsandwhales · 06/08/2014 19:35

Yanbu, this is appalling. I understand that Christians are being cleansed out of Iraq by isis too :-(

creekyknees · 06/08/2014 19:37

I'm surprised anyone thinks the West doesnt control who is in power in the ME with oil on their land Hmm

As for 'desperate to stop atrocities', we've had decades to stop Israel committing war crimes and it hasnt happened yet and doesnt look like they will anytime soon.

madmomma · 06/08/2014 19:52

Jesus it's just terrifying.

WooWooOwl · 06/08/2014 20:06

It's awful, but we can all agree on that so no one needs to resign from their job, or organise protest marches.

The critical difference is that our government isn't to blame for Isis, nor does it fund and condone it's actions.

Horrific. The Kurdish people have been treated terribly for so very long. Who will stand up for them and defend them?

Wannabestepfordwife · 06/08/2014 20:41

Thank you for start this thread OP I have been meaning to start a thread on IS and whether I'm right to be terrified by them.

I've found Patrick Cockburn an invaluable source especially this article on who funds IS www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/iraq-crisis-how-saudi-arabia-helped-isis-take-over-the-north-of-the-country-9602312.html.

I find it scary how fast their influence is spreading to Lebanon www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/isis-brings-its-war-to-lebanon--and-it-could-be-a-key-part-of-a-masterplan-9648009.html and Jordan www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/jordan/10931859/Jordan-may-be-next-in-line-for-the-Isis-extremists.html. They appear to be a massive threat to the stability of the ME.

The organisation and structure of IS is far scarier to me than the threat of Bin Laden ever was. I really fear what could happen if Iran does have nuclear weapons and IS manage to get a foothold in the country.

The cynic in me sees the whole Sunni Vs Shis as a proxy Cold War between Russia and the US

MehsMum · 06/08/2014 20:44

ISIS is a terrifying organisation. The outlook for religious minorities in Iraq is very bleak - those that are left, because the Jews have already gone (not exactly voluntarily: the community suffered considerable persecution).

Life for Christians in Iraq has been very difficult, to put it mildly:
www.cbsnews.com/news/vicar-dire-times-for-iraqs-christians/
Is going to be even worse for them under ISIS - look at what's already happened in Mosul.

Backinthering · 06/08/2014 20:47

Bush and Blair have rather a lot to answer for in Iraq. And I believe we also helped arm Isis in Syria.
Horrific that the world is just standing by and watching another genocide. Fucking quick enough to get into it last time.

Meglet · 06/08/2014 20:51

ISIS seem to be chipping away at Iraq at a rate of knots Sad.

Bluebelljumpsoverthemoon · 06/08/2014 21:03

There's no uproar when those responsible are funded by the Saudis, that would be 'islamophobic', as is wondering what the consequences will be when their European fighters return home to practice everything they've learnt and suggesting that those who support mass murder, religious genocide etc are a danger to society and should be dealt with, including deportation for foreigners and treason charges for citizens. Probably 'racist' as well, even against the blond fascists.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 06/08/2014 21:06

So Iran won't help because they're not Shia....Perhaps the best hope for these people might be the (rich) reasonable and non extreme Sunni muslims in the surrounding regions who do not identify with ISIS.
