The critical difference is that our government isn't to blame for Isis I disagree with that, we've been meddling in the Middle East for a century, and the blood is firmly on the UKs hands. Along with France we carved up the region without a care for the inhabitants. Partitioned Palestine despite the whole region objecting. We also funded and trained Al Qaeda and trashed Iraq with not a thought given to how to build the nation after. The UK, France and the US are all responsible for the absolutely clusterfuck in the region now.
But what do we do now? We've proven time and time again that we will only make a total shit of everything for our own ends. At best we might be able to force a sort of temporary truce with a very expensive campaign costing huge numbers of lives but I feel that it will not resolve the problems in the region, it'll just delay the inevitable.
The Sykes-Picot lines should never have been implemented, Israel should not have been formed in that space at that time, the region should have been allowed to draw its own boundaries and the native people decide their future. Yes it would have been very vicious and brutal just as our Western Wars were, but it has been constantly bloody since and if it really blows up now a rogue state could turn whole nations to glass, something that wasn't possible 100 years ago.
I just despair for all the children across this world, the innocents borne into this. When you stop and think about It for all we have achieved the world is really pretty shit for the majority of the inhabitants.
