I put a joint of meat in the slower cooker this was half for tea tonight and half for tomorrow had sorted the veg and taken some pre cooked mash out of the freezer.
I hadn't been feeling great so went up stairs for a bit of a lie down when I came back down my husband was home and making cauliflower cheese for tea. I asked why he was making tea when tea was already on he said the cauliflower cheese could be for tomorrow which I point out the meat was also for tomorrows tea and cauliflower cheese is best eaten fresh.
in the end we did eat what husband had prepared he's now in a sulk but I don't understand why he just didn't finish of the meal that had already been started.

Tbh id be grateful that he did it at all Grin

In my house id probably be lying down listening to the sounds of dh shouting through the house 'when's dinner!'

I can see why you are annoyed but I don't really think either of you are being unreasonable. He tried to help but just didn't do what you expected of him.

Can't you use joint for dinner tomorrow and sandwiches the next day?

ihatethecold · 06/08/2014 18:47

Can't you have the cauliflower cheese with the meat?
I'm not really sure why you've got the hump!

SaucyJack · 06/08/2014 18:50

YANBU. Is it possible he didn't notice the slow cooker was on?

As an aside- we have cauliflower cheese for dinner all the time here. Not every meal has to contain the rotting flesh of murdered animals.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/08/2014 18:51

Idhave served the meat with the cauliflower cheese instead of doing other veg.

NCISaddict · 06/08/2014 18:51

Good Heavens, freeze half the meat or just keep it in the fridge for Friday and then you've got another meal. Really fancy cauliflower cheese now and yes we do have it for a main meal, it's lovely.

ZenNudist · 06/08/2014 18:54

Meat & cauliflower mmmm. I think ywbu. My dh would come & ask as I've got form for being in control of meals in our house. Nice that yours tries to help.

Gruntled · 06/08/2014 18:54

Mmmmm.... Rotting flesh of murdered animals

deakymom · 06/08/2014 18:56

Cauliflower cheese is a main course in our house.

kinkyfuckery · 06/08/2014 19:06

Can't you have the CC with the meat joint and veg?

CarmineRose1978 · 06/08/2014 19:07

Mmmm, yes, cauliflower cheese. With some crispy bacon and fresh crusty bread. Wants it, wants it my precious!

kentishgirl · 06/08/2014 19:08

We tend to have it as a side dish because that's how OH sees it - I'd prefer to have it as the main. It's only when I ate with his family that I had it as a side for the first time instead of as the star of the meal.

Otherwise you have two protein rich dishes in one meal.

Mind, I used to be veggie so having cauli cheese as the main part was one of my regular dinners. I also put tons of cheese on mine, so if you accept that cheese can be the 'main' part, then it more than meets that. Funny, OH will have a cheese salad that probably has less cheese on it than my cauli cheese.

LePetitPont · 06/08/2014 19:08

Cc with the brisket would be lovely! Or pop the left over meat in the freezer for another day?

kentishgirl · 06/08/2014 19:09

Obviously you don't serve it on its own. You serve it with its own side veg.

LiberalLibertines · 06/08/2014 19:09

I wish I could serve cauli cheese as a main here,I love it, but would just get Hmm all round.

Saucy, meat is not rotting!?

mellicauli · 06/08/2014 19:13

Maybe he's in a sulk cos he's not feeling well either?

Leeds2 · 06/08/2014 19:14

I would've had the meat with cauliflower cheese too!

Backtobedlam · 06/08/2014 19:19

I don't think either of you are being unreasonable, sounds like he was just trying to help. We always have cauliflower cheese as a side and not as a main meal so I would also have used it with the meat.

FloatIsRechargedNow · 06/08/2014 19:24

Neither of you WBU - to have the option of someone else providing food is a 'gift' - I'd eat any of it, collycheese goes with anything or stands alone...particularly if someone else cooked it.

CookieMonsterIsHot · 06/08/2014 19:44

YABU

Scenarios like this happen in my house. Well, the first part does. Not your reactions though.

We'd eat the cauliflower cheese. I'd be happy he was thoughtful enough to cook.

If he had not noticed the slow cooker I would be glad he didn't disturb my rest to quiz me on meal plans.

If he had noticed the slow cooker I would be pleased he that he cooked anyway. It would mean I could put the yummy rotting carcass aside for tomorrow and the day after - one less meal to plan, yay!

If I had moaned about him cooking for us, he would not have sulked. He would have told me where to stick it!

You are ill. He cooks. In a manner you consider wrong. It hurts or inconveniences no-one. You give him a hard time. He offers a different solution (eat it tomorrow). You give him a hard time. Get a grip!

If your DP came on here we'd tell him you were controlling and he should LTB.

Castlemilk · 06/08/2014 19:54

We should cross-reference all the 'how can you possibly have cauliflower cheese as a main meal, my family would only accept it alongside a huge hunk of steak' posts with all the 'how on earth do people manage to get their weekly food spend under £60' posts Grin

We have cauliflower (and usually broccoli) cheese as a main meal quite a lot. Sometimes it has mushroom and leek in it too...Served with potatoes, sometimes roasts or jackets, and something like peas and carrots. We're vegetarian of course, unless we manage to catch a shrew or a vole... but that's getting rarer, I find.

hackmum · 06/08/2014 19:59

Oh, I don't know, I can see why you're a bit cross, OP. I hate having anything interfere with my carefully laid plans for dinner. Mind you, my DP never ever cooks so that's one problem that doesn't arise.

I find it hilarious that some people question serving cauliflower cheese as a main meal. We often have it, served with roast potatoes and broccoli and peas or carrots. Us veggies - what are we like, eh?
