AIBU to eat in front of my muslim coworkers?

EmmbadTheBad · 27/07/2014 21:02

So it's Ramadan at the moment. I was at a meeting at work recently and a muslim woman, who I don't work with directly, made a comment about how thoughtless the people she shares an office with are for eating in front of her while she is fasting (at this point everyone glances guiltily towards the biscuits in the middle of the table). There are a couple of muslim women in my office and, I'll be honest, it had not even occurred to me that it might be insensitive to eat in front of them while they are fasting.

We do have a kitchen at work but it's very small and a lot of people, myself included, tend to eat at their desks. Quite apart from anything - as an atheist - I don't want to be observing other people's religious beliefs. I know Ramadan is nearly over but I intend to continue eating at my desk. IABU? Would appreciate opinion from anyone fasting at the mo.

Morphine yes. It's whining to state that Christians get a uniquely hard time on Faith bashing threads. As Christians we are supremely privileged in this country. Or are you just taking an oppositionalist stance? In which case that's boring as well.

Player67 · 29/07/2014 22:20

Good point Seriously

MorphineDreams · 29/07/2014 22:20

seriously I'm not whining since I'm one who usually would contribute to the 'bashing' on the Christian threads, I was just stating a fact.

It doesn't matter who's seen as privileged or not, it can't be seen as goady for one and not the other.

TattyDevine · 29/07/2014 22:26

What is wrong with some of you people? It's a perfectly debateable topic. Can you not just stick to the programme?

I think that's a whole different topic altogether greedybitch but I do have to say, some people thrive in relationships like that and are extremely happy. If both parties chose to live that way there is no delusion, just mutual understanding of each others sexual needs. A tad different than believing in what some people believe to be akin to unicorns.

Have you ever been a swinger, met one? No?

I know a swinging couple and they are madly in love, but enjoy the sexual thrill of swinging and having group sex. It has no negative impact on their relationship and they aren't deluding themselves into believing in something that isn't real. It isn't comparable and has no basis in this debate whatsoever so should be dropped.

TattyDevine · 29/07/2014 22:38

What has swinging got to do with the OP? Hmm

You don't have to meet a swinger to know it is superstitious selfishness

MorphineDreams · 29/07/2014 22:39

The delusion lies in the notion that sexual satisfaction cannot be found without watching your partner rutting some other loon

We live in a world where people find sexual satisfaction from humping their motorbikes fgs, you can't speak for what other people find a turn on.

Player67 · 29/07/2014 22:39

Very well phrased Greedy

MorphineDreams · 29/07/2014 22:40

You don't have to meet a swinger to know it is superstitious selfishness

How is it selfish if both parties enjoy it?

How is it superstitious Confused

samsam123 · 29/07/2014 22:51

get some chips and stick them under her nose :) eat what you like if she doesn't like it she can go outside

CoteDAzur · 29/07/2014 22:55

You lot have stopped making sense about two pages ago.

Now you need to stop your personal attacks to SGB.

Seriouslyffs · 29/07/2014 22:55

Do fuck off samsang
Still think this was worth keeping MMHQ?
Hmm
Bad call.

PhaedraIsMyName · 29/07/2014 23:05

What has swinging got to do with the OP?

Absolutely nothing. It's trying to get at SoldGoldBrass by referring to something SGB said on another thread on a completely different topic.

Pumpkinpositive · 29/07/2014 23:11

I've been on the 5/2 diet for 18 months. Two days a week of max 500 calories. Not religious, just fat. Grin

Friends and family know I'm on it and happily scoff bacon sandwiches, sausage rolls and cake in front of me.

It's hard but it's my problem, not theirs. Wouldn't occur to me to be offended or ask them to stop. Confused

SolidGoldBrass · 30/07/2014 00:34

Oh do carry on, Player and Greedy. You're doing so well at demonstrating why people with imaginary friends should be indulged to the extent of being taken seriously, after all...

Do you realise how judgmental you sound? You have delved through someone's posting history to find something you think is a stick to beat them with. Except that it doesn't work because many people on this site respect the right of consenting adults to make their own sexual choices. So harping on about swinging won't make people question SGB's behaviour but it will make people question yours. Your obsession with the topic is interesting; why are you so focused on it? Are you looking for more details or do you think you have a right to judge those who don't have the same views as you?

I've seen a few comments on here referring to other similar threads implying that something fishy is going on with multiple threads on the same subject. I posted a thread on a related subject (not on AIBU, I'm not that brave) and just wanted to say that this one wasn't me.
