to not be made to feel bad that you stole my dd2 toys ?

back story- we went to GOSH today with DD1 for her JIA appointment. I took day off and took both dds as DH had job interview. so after doctors we went for lunch.

we went to Brunswick and ate at Giraffe. DDs went and ran around. then we left after about 2 mins I asked DD2 where were her "doodoos" its a Roo from tescos. she panicked so she ran back.
she met a girl about 6/8 who had 1 on her scooter. DD2 and 1 asked can we have it back about 30s before I got there she said no. I told her it was my DD2s toy so we got it back. I asked her where the other one was and she said her brother had it in the closest shop. we all went in and found it.I asked him where he found it as we has lost it. his mum said "we'll finders keepers"
I felt like going ape shit. but said my DD2 had dropped/ briefly left it and I'm sorry but you can't just steal toys! especially as both children had tied the toy to their scooters like a toy on a lorry!
my DD2 is in a crying melt down as these toys are really important to her and even eBay has no replacements.
I'm sorry but it was within minutes. they a grubby toys. maybe I was frazzled but my Dd1 has to take chemo drugs now for the next 2 years and I was just told.
but AIBU to think you don't steal toys you put them to one side in case someone has dropped / forgotten them??

Der Horrible mother, here are two wee sentences which you may like to print out and laminate. Remember, there aree millions of us MNers, we have the karma and we're not afraid to use it:

'no darling that's someone else's toy, let's hand it in to the desk/put it on the fence/whatever the fuck will help it be found. No, we won't tie it to our scooters because it's not yours'

There now. Wasn't that easy. Don't you feel better? You utter, utter witch.

NoSquirrels · 26/07/2014 00:35

Guess "Finders Keepers" mum has never read Dogger by Shirley Williams to her children, then? ("Then Bella did something VERY kind...")

Ugh. I don't know what I'd have done in that situation. Poor you.
Hope your DD's treatment goes well.

Flowers to all who've helped find new roos.

kali110 · 26/07/2014 00:35

I don't understand why you didn't take it back. I would have had to be held back by a number of burly bodyguards not to have leapt forward and pulled it off the scooter.

abouttobeevicted · 26/07/2014 01:10

shocked and 1 DD with a drip and canula. so no was so shocked

She would have been welcome to 'keep' my fist when she 'finds' it in her nose. I can't believe someone could really be that cruel and heartless. I really hope she is on here and reads this and realises just what she has done.

Balaboosta · 26/07/2014 08:31

I'm in shock! I know that neighbourhood well and I'm absolutely horrified! What age were the thieving brats children?

londonrach · 26/07/2014 08:34

Shocked too. Wonder if this is something for the local paper. Those kids of finder keepers mum learnt a very bad lesson yesterday.....

Littleroobe · 26/07/2014 11:39

So pleased for you at least you've got a spare now one too. I can't believe somebody would do that, it's just horrible. On a plus look at what mumsnet can do tho :0)

What a great thread. It made me smile. Hope everything goes well for all the aboutobeevicted family Smile

ajandjjmum · 26/07/2014 12:31

So sorry you had to meet up with the lowest of the low OP, particularly at such a stressful time.

I wonder if 'wait here while I call the Police' might have worked.

We have often gone into Giraffe when DS has had appointments at GOSH.

WorraLiberty · 26/07/2014 12:39

This thread has made me so angry and so happy in equal measures Grin

Glad its sorted OP and well done to the lovely MNetters who helped you out

chocolatemademefat · 26/07/2014 12:40

lilicat you're just lovely!

abouttobeevicted hope your DD keeps well.

And to the finders keepers mum - YOU are a first class bitch.

AggressiveBunting · 26/07/2014 12:42

I think I would have knelt down next to her children and said "Listen up kids, because I'm going to tell you something important that you must always remember - your mother's a cunt" and then walked off.

LadySybilLikesCake · 26/07/2014 12:45

Or 'your mother's a thief' may have done it. How horrible! I'd have told her I was calling the police. If something's found on the floor it's not automatically the finder's property, it's classed as theft.

That's a lovely thing to do lillicat Thanks

CSIJanner · 26/07/2014 13:27

about do you have the Roo's now? And enough of them?

(Goes to scrummage through the bedrooms...)

diddl · 26/07/2014 13:36

If it isn't unowned/abandoned then it's theft.

You are supposed to take steps to find the owner.

LadySybilLikesCake · 26/07/2014 13:47

I take found items to the Police. If they are not claimed in three months you get to go and collect them, and they are legally yours. I found a brand new empty handbag once. I asked them to give it to someone who had theirs stolen, I don't know if they did.

WhatsMyAgeAgain · 26/07/2014 14:30

Sometimes I despair at the rudeness of people. Sometimes AIBU makes me fume.

The kindness shown on this thread has made my heart smile.

Lilicat, what a lovely poster you are! May all good things come your way.

pieinthesky123 · 26/07/2014 17:17

This is so disgusting and shocking. Did finders keepers mum see the drip and canula your dd was attached to and still not give it back, its bad enough what she did but to a sick child too. How low. Her kids will grow up to know no better. Any decent person would have gotten pleasure in reuniting a poorly child with its special toy. Sending your dd get well wishes.
