When talking to a colleague a few minutes ago, I used the term 'belt and braces'. I need to shoot myself now, don't I?

You need to get into the envelope & push yourself into that there blue sky of thinking Grin

SirChenjin · 25/07/2014 13:10

How are you going to deal with your addiction to management speak, going forward?

FiftyShadesOfGreen4205 · 25/07/2014 13:12

I think you need a root and branch approach to deal with this.

jeanmiguelfangio · 25/07/2014 13:13

Im pleased you could reach out to him to touch base

IsItMeOr · 25/07/2014 13:17

I don't even recognise `belt and braces' as management speak. I thought it was in everyday life normal use.

Is there any hope for me?

CompletelyStumped · 25/07/2014 13:19

Be sure to let your colleague know that if he has any concerns about your management speak he should not hesitate to drop you a line Grin

MagratsHair · 25/07/2014 13:19

When shooting yourself, try to do it in a way that gets you more bang for your buck.

OhILoveAGoodNameChange · 25/07/2014 13:20

may be you need to park that?
or take it offline?
or maybe you need a resource?

chockbic · 25/07/2014 13:24

Let's toss this one around troops.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 25/07/2014 13:28

belt and braces isn't management speak. it is just a saying. panic over.

wowfudge · 25/07/2014 14:07

Glad to see we're all singing from the same hymn sheet Grin

OP posts:
SarcyMare · 25/07/2014 14:22

belt and braces is ancient, don't panic
"Belts and braces (a.k.a. bracers) are meant to hold one's trousers up. Going 'belt and braces' is a double insurance against having them fall down. The figurative use, as a general term for cautiousness, was coined around the mid-20th century."

dementedma · 25/07/2014 14:27

as long as you don't diarise the shooting, it will be fine

wowfudge · 25/07/2014 14:44

Is that the same as 'finding a window' dementedma?

InkleWinkle · 25/07/2014 15:08

To be fair, at the end of the day, just take one for the team!

Manda472 · 25/07/2014 15:14

Maybe you were just thinking out of the box Wink

Absofrigginlootly · 25/07/2014 15:29

Did you remember to get all your ducks in a row, so that you can make sure everyone hits the ground running first thing on Monday? :)

wowfudge · 25/07/2014 16:31

I'm loving this thought shower!

OP posts:
happygirl87 · 25/07/2014 16:37

Good approach to get the low hanging fruit and circumvent a deep dive. Just be sure to get that legalised.....

MimiSunshine · 25/07/2014 16:39

I think you need to re-evaluate your communication, look to externalise your thought process and cascade your original strategy within a matrix approach to managing stakeholders

PookBob · 25/07/2014 16:41

If you don't adopt a 'belt and braces' approach, you may create silos in the workplace.

Can't have that can we?

Thumbwitch · 25/07/2014 16:43

OH God, Mimi wins so far, I understood all the others but not that one! (the basic criteria for Proper Management Speak, afaiac) Grin

x2boys · 25/07/2014 16:43

Hilarious but who comes up with this bullshit do managers have to go o. A special course to learn management speak allmy managers talk like this

Absofrigginlootly · 25/07/2014 17:11

I think we need to take a helicopter view and touch base about this offline before going forward
