Aibu to expect the dh to do the ironing?

I'm 38weeks pregnant. I am freaking melting! Also suffering with horrific pelvic pain.

I do most of the housework and child care. Hubs does work bloody hard too. But I keep staring at the ever growing pile of ironing and feeling rage that he hasn't done it! I've not asked outright but I've dropped very obvious hints ('that ironing really needs doing, but I'm just too hot'). In my opinion NOT ironing is not an option, both hubs and I hate looking scruffy and we certainly wouldn't let the smalls.

Aibu?

Er. Not UR on the face of it, but...terry asking outright? Wink

puntasticusername · 23/07/2014 19:58

Terry? Who's Terry? *try

sonlypuppyfat · 23/07/2014 19:59

I wish Terry would do my ironing.

321zerobaby · 23/07/2014 19:59

Ask him and if he says no, pay someone to do it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/07/2014 20:00

Rule is that you don't get to complain about it if you didn't ask for it. Talk to him...

Mouthfulofquiz · 23/07/2014 20:00

I think you will have to just ask! Men don't pick up on hints really. I left an empty toilet roll in the middle of the floor in the bathroom to see what would happen to it... Still there two weeks later!

isthisanacidtest · 23/07/2014 20:02

Ask him. But be prepared to find out that it doesn't bother him as much as it does you.

Or be crumpled.

I don't even know where my iron is I think DD might have had it for ironing a top yesterday.

I iron as little as humanly possible.

isthisanacidtest · 23/07/2014 20:03

By the way. You say you would never let the smalls - I have never ironed my smalls in my life. (Smalls is underwear, right?)

Bowlersarm · 23/07/2014 20:04

Just wear unironed. It doesn't matter.

Andrewofgg · 23/07/2014 20:05

Don't ask him.

Tell him.

Imperative mood, for the linguistic pedants among us.

Iron those bloody clothes because I'm not going to.

Just do it.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 23/07/2014 20:07

I didnt think anyone ironed clothes anymore except work shirts.

YABU for having an Ironing Pile Grin

MsVestibule · 23/07/2014 20:07

acid after rereading, I think 'the smalls' are their DC!

JUST ASK HIM!!! If he says 'no, you're at home, it's your job so you do it' do feel free to LTB.

MrsSippy · 23/07/2014 20:09

my ironing has just been collected by a nice man in a van and will be bought back by same nice man on Friday - I can really recommend it!

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/07/2014 20:10

MrsSippy is his name Terry, because that would be fantastic?

HauntedNoddyCar · 23/07/2014 20:13

Ask him!

I would ask about 'the DH' as a taat point proving thing but if you're 38 weeks pg then I won't :)

googoodolly · 23/07/2014 20:16

YABU to iron anything except formal wear in the first place!

magpiegin · 23/07/2014 20:21

Ask him, also have a look through the pile- I bet there's lots of stuff in there that doesn't need doing as well.

ilovesooty · 23/07/2014 20:22

Dropping hints and failing to address the issue directly doesn't sound at all helpful or productive to me. YABU in failing to assert yourself.

Andrewofgg · 23/07/2014 20:22

All that gets ironed here (usually by me on a Sunday afternoon, while she watches some bloody thing on the box which I can't stand) is my shirts and DW's blouses. And one or two pairs of her trousers which she insists on doing herself.

Pinkrose1 · 23/07/2014 20:25

Ask him.

Men have a hint deflecting force field around them!

erin99 · 23/07/2014 20:27

When you said you felt too hot to do the ironing, he probably thought the same! 28 degrees or whatever is too hot for anyone to iron, pregnant or not.

Castlemilk · 23/07/2014 20:27

'Hey DH let's split the upcoming tasks. I'll go through labour and give birth and then not sleep properly for 18 months, you do that pile of ironing.'

Andrewofgg · 23/07/2014 20:28

Pinkrose 1 Grin Guilty as charged!

But letting his DW iron when she is 38 weeks pg is a bit shit. Time to switch the force field off.

MummaB1014 · 23/07/2014 20:30

Smalls are the children!

I'm not an obsessive ironer, hubs is worse than me for hating crumpled clothes. We only iron work/school things and certain other pieces. Normally I'm happy to get on and do it, can't justify paying someone, although these are exceptional circumstances!

Have now asked outright, nicely too! The response I got was a huff and he went for a shower... Not quite sure if that was a begrudging yes or a no...

Maybe I'll give Terry a call...
