DS is one next week. Party has been booked for two months and it's a Peter Rabbit theme. Blue bunting, themed cups, themed party bags and games and a themed cake. Aibu to worry people will think I just copied Prince George's party.
Not really a big deal but don't want to look like a wannabe...

Well Fairy it's vulgar to talk about money don't you know? Wink. The baby wipe warmer was a steal compared to the marching band and Peter Rabbit shaped jewellery we've had commissioned.

Peter Rabbit is middle class, littleducks??? Dd had a Peter Rabbit bedroom as a PFB, I wonder did everyone think we were being aspirational? Grin

Er, no GodDamnBatman - I can assure you all parties don't have themes.
I've got to 50 without ever having a 'theme' for any party I've thrown. That's including 3 dc in their teens and all the numerous parties that must have entailed, as well as my own, and ones where I've hosted for my parents or other people.

Totally up to the OP if she wants to do this - I'm not having a go or ridiculing Grin but it's certainly not compulsory or even usual IME.

BackForGood - so you've never bought character paper plates? Or certain colour balloons because it matches?

You or your children have never been to a party with a theme..?

I don't think I've ever been to one without!

Why not Have a theme.. Some people are just miserable.

No they won't and so what if they do.

And I loved your description.. Celebrate away

curious - I seem to remember ds had some Thomas the Tank serviettes once as I happened to see them in Home Bargains or somewhere, but it didn't 'tie in' with matching balloons or anything. Certainly have never gone for matching balloons, nope.
People have always seemed to enjoy the parties though - don't really think children notice if the paper cups match the balloons / serviettes / plates - they have always been more interested in the food and whatever it is we are doing.
Over the years, I can honestly say I can't remember many, but there have been a couple where the dc have been to where the host has gone over the top put lots of time and energy into making a theme, but my dc haven't enjoyed those parties anymore than any other ones, because of it.
wondering - what's "miserable" about being able to enjoy an impromptu, thrown together party ? Confused As I say, I'm amongst the older generation on MN, so have obviously been to LOADS of weddings, Christenings, birthday parties, leaving dos, retirement parties, anniversary parties, etc.,etc. but I can't say I've EVER thought - 'this party is a bit miserable as it hasn't got a co-ordinated balloon arch' or 'I can't possibly drink out of this paper cup as it's not got the same commercial logo on it as the serviette'. I go to enjoy the company, the ambience, and to celebrate the occasion. I'd hate to think the host had got stressed or spent lots on trying to make it into something themed. Fine if the host has plenty of time, money, and energy and likes doing that sort of thing, but I'd have thought it more likely that people with little ones are more likely to fall into the category of 'knackered, time limited, and poor' on the whole, so I'd rather they saved their energy / money.

As I have said several times, OP - I hope you have a lovely time, and it doesn't bother me one iota if people want to do themes or whatever, but I do resent the accusation wondering that someone who doesn't, is miserable Hmm.

Ooh have a lovely party and don't worry a bit about George's party. I didn't know what theme he'd had.

I thought themes were compulsory normal too. DS had:
2nd birthday Bob the man on the moon
3rd Pirates
4th Knight and princesses
5th Lego
6th Super heroes

I love that it shows how they grow up and their tastes evolve, and I'm slightly addicted to buying matching plates and party bag contents. I get excited at least 2 months in advance.

But you'll see he didn't have a 1st birthday theme and now I'm GUTTED. He did have a Mr Tickle cake though so let's call it a Mr Man party (but the plates and napkins didn't match. Oh the shame).

It sounds great MrsBiggins. Peter Rabbit sounds a fabulous theme for a little boys first birthday party.
Hope everyone has a great time.

CheerfulYank · 22/07/2014 14:55

We just had a Lego party for DS's 7th farewell :)

I'd have done Peter Rabbit for DD's first if she'd been a boy. Because then you can have invitations that say "hop on over for some fun, or little bunny is turning one!"

I'll see myself out.
