DS is one next week. Party has been booked for two months and it's a Peter Rabbit theme. Blue bunting, themed cups, themed party bags and games and a themed cake. Aibu to worry people will think I just copied Prince George's party.
Not really a big deal but don't want to look like a wannabe...

I had no idea that Prince George had a Peter Rabbit themed birthday party, and I suspect your guests won't either! Hope you all have a lovely day!

MrsBigginsPieShop · 21/07/2014 23:00

Thank you! Party bags are aimed at babies as six of my friends have had babies in the last year or so; feeding spoons, small books, bath toys etc. Food so far is vegetable crisps, carrot sticks etc. Definitely not a stealth boast I promise.
I will own that it's more for the grown ups than the DCs but we're all in the same boat!

Sounds ace mrsbiggins!

I am doing pizza and veggie crisps and then mini cupcakes as all the kids coming are 6 months to a year old. Bbq, wine and snacks for family afterwards

PinkSquash · 21/07/2014 23:35

I am having a games and gin party for DS1, a group of 8 year old boys and I'll need a bottle of gin.

Allalonenow · 21/07/2014 23:35

Sounds lovely MrsB hope you have a super day!

(Kate will have got all her stuff at cost price from her Mum Grin )

MyFairyKing · 21/07/2014 23:50

It not a stealth boast but you obviously just had to mention organic food and party bags, Grin

Happy36 · 21/07/2014 23:53

It sounds like a lovely party. Enjoy the day and don't worry.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 21/07/2014 23:55

Enjoy your DS's first birthday; no one will give a monkey's about the picture on the paper plate.

MrsBigginsPieShop · 21/07/2014 23:58

Oh be fair Fairy - I wasn't even going to mention the gluten free cake or the gold encrusted baby wipe warmer we're putting in the middle of the pass the parcel!

I don't believe the Peter Rabbit party happened. The mail article seem to be rubbish attributed to 'close sources'.

But having read it and the criticism of Peter rabbit (apparently very middle class) i can see why you might be miffed if you are just about to throw a Peter Rabbit party.

Ignore and enjoy the party.

BackforGood · 22/07/2014 00:23

Ticks this thread off as yet another example of those where I'm clearly on a different planet from that inhabited by some MNers Wink

MrsMikeDelfino · 22/07/2014 00:38

I knew Prince George had a themed party planned I read it in the Daily Mail
I really wouldn't have cared less if someone else did a Peter Rabbit theme, I think it's a lovely theme for a 1 year old!
We had Winnie the Pooh and friends themes here. Smile

Amy106 · 22/07/2014 03:24

No need for any embarrassment. It sounds like lots of fun. Enjoy! Thanks Cake

Redglitter · 22/07/2014 03:39

Party bags for babies attending a 1st birthday party? Hmm

GodDamnBatman · 22/07/2014 03:39

All parties have themes, though usually it's based of the child's favorite thing at the time. That's the whole point of birthday parties.

In any case, the first birthday party is for the parents to celebrate a year of hard work and joy. Theme it to your hearts content.

CheerfulYank · 22/07/2014 03:59

I have ideas and pinterest boards for my children's birthday parties a few years in advance. :o I have no shame about it either, I'm afraid! For instance DD just turned one in May (a pink and gray bunny party) and already I am thinking how lovely a honey bee party would be for her 2nd birthday...

I think you're fine. It won't seem like you're a copycat! :)

Delphiniumsblue · 22/07/2014 06:35

Even if I had known what sort of party Prince George had I wouldn't have made the connection. Just a bit surprised to have a theme at that age.

MrsBigginsPieShop · 22/07/2014 08:07

I can deal with being accused of being middle class Grin.
Thanks for the lovely responses.

Have a wonderful time. I think it's a lovely theme. :)

JuniperTisane · 22/07/2014 08:44

Aahh. Lovely. We did a pirates theme complete with adults in fancy dress and pirate music in the background for DS1's first birthday. There were only two other children there, aged 5 and 10. 17 adults in stripes with swords and patches. We all looked like tits Grin

TBH, I wouldn't have connected yours and Prince George's birthday themes. I only know its his birthday because there are a couple of pictures about.

manchestermummy · 22/07/2014 09:58

My SIL is having a themed party for her dd's first birthday. We all have to dress as Cbeebies characters. Yes. We are going as the Odell family; SIL says we are not entering into the spirit. Too bloody right. We have neither the cash, time nor inclination to start pissing around for costumes.

Some bunting sounds fine to me!

MyFairyKing · 22/07/2014 11:06

Ok well you have a sense of humour. You could have done better though, you didn't mention how much it cost. Wink

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 22/07/2014 11:15

'Our theme was 'champagne : lots of'

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS COULD BE A THEME?!?

curiousgeorgie · 22/07/2014 11:27

I'm sure no one will make the connection... It sounds lovely!

Why are people on mumsnet so agog at 1 year olds having parties?? I just threw DD2 a huge fairytale themed party for her 1st birthday. It was ridiculously over the top and amazing and everyone loved it. so there

Pagwatch · 22/07/2014 11:28

Sorry AndIFeedEmGunpowder, I should have posted about this years ago. It was fantastic Grin

A babies first birthday party really ought to be something that you look back on with affection, warmth and a huge dollop of 'dear lord, what was I thinking'. It's part of the joy Grin

Seriously, as long as you are surrounded by as many people that love you and your child as are available you can do what you like - its all fab.

(except possibly mamnchestermummys SIL who is properly bonkers)
