AIBU to go off a friend because she's never heard of the film 'Brief Encounter'?

I do not expect my friends to know every piece of classical music, or to know the Latin names of every plant - but jeez, I expect them to have heard of Brief Encounter!

I do love the clipped accents and the period details though. Like changing one's "laibrary book at Booits".

Off to google brief encounter as I've never heard of it.

I saw the stage adaptation and that was wonderful.

I bought the DVD for a quid from Sainsburys.

It's a great film, but its from 1945. Why should everyone know about a 70 year old film?

Well, it's not to everyone's taste - all that suppressed feeling and clipped consonants (and that's only the children!) - but I would think it odd if a 43 year old from this part of the world hadn't at least heard of it.
