To feel elated that Michael Gove has been removed from his post?

This has got to be the best news I have heard for years! The damage he has done to the education system and the way he has treated teachers over the last few years have made me start to hate the job I used to love.

I'm not saying his successor will be any better but the optimist in me is hoping it can't get any worse! Only time will tell, I suppose but I know for one thing, I am so happy to see the back of this man!

Somebody on my fb just posted this, with the comment, "perfect start to the summer"
Wonder what post Mr Gove will be moved to though? What else in this country needs destroying?…

Yanbu!

scaevola · 15/07/2014 11:20

None of it was his personal initiative.

There are no indications whatsoever that this heralds any change in Coalition (or wider Tory) educational policy.

AlwaysFeelingClueless · 15/07/2014 11:22

Gove is off to be Commons Chief Whip apparently.

YA definitely NBU.

GoringBit · 15/07/2014 11:31

YANBU, but Nicky Morgan voted against equal marriage and for restricting women's choice on abortion, so I'm not feeling terribly optimistic.

GoringBit · 15/07/2014 11:32

Presumably she sees treating everyone like crap as a form of equality.

Nanny0gg · 15/07/2014 11:35

Name an Education Minister who has been truly popular with teachers.

beccajoh · 15/07/2014 11:35

What do you think is going to change?

Cockadoodledooo · 15/07/2014 11:37

Yanbu. But I'm not holding my breath for the replacement to be any better.

Yanbu.

However, he is going on to become a chief whip, I think he'll do more damage there.

When the conservatives get out of government, that's when I'll celebrate.

Oblomov · 15/07/2014 11:41

But realistically nothing is going to change.
Do we honestly see a light at the end of the tunnel?
Nope. Thought not.

Bramshott · 15/07/2014 11:42

Sadly I think it's probably a very shrewd move on DC's part - remove Gove as he's so unpopular, replace with someone smiley that no-one's heard of, whilst continuing the same policies, and voila - 100% more electable...

I almost feel sorry for Morgan moving into the car crash that is the new SEN legislation. 6 weeks off implementation, schools about to close, and still no final Code of Practice. Some might wonder whether Gove isn't secretly pleased to step away from that.

Bramshott, spot on!

purpleapple1234 · 15/07/2014 12:37

Agree with Bramshott. It's window dressing. Gove started so much change with blessing/orders from above. It won't be shelved now. Also Gove will still be able to have influence as a whip.

And don't forget Hunt is still there quietly dismantling the NHS.

Getting rid of Gove was smokescreen.

MrsMaturin · 15/07/2014 12:44

I welcome Gove's dumping but I agree little will change. I have to say though that as a parent of a child whose GCSE course was changed multiple times over the last two years and whose entire future is at the mercy of whatever they do with grade boundaries I am doing a little dance of glee.
If he was here I would say as much plus it's not very nice is it Michael? When something totally beyond your control takes the ground from under you........

Ha!

Rebecca2014 · 15/07/2014 12:47

Yay, Gove was such a snob. I went to two college open days and at both colleges the teachers were making negative comments about Gove and the changes he kept making. I never heard a teacher be so upfront about their disliking of a government figure before.

GoblinLittleOwl · 15/07/2014 12:49

Delighted that Gove has gone; perhaps Nicky Morgan will attempt to restore teachers' professionalism, by preventing Governors from running schools, and ditching the idea that anyone can learn to teach in six months. She can't do much in 10 months.
