DH thoughtless present

DH returned from a 4 day stag last night. Brought a box of Lego each as a gift for our 2 children, they are aged 4 and 2, the Lego is for 6-10 years old. 4 year old very happy as he's good with Lego, but 2 year old really not interested as it's far too old for him, and we don't let him play with the Lego here as he can't do it yet and ends up throwing it/smashing it up.

DH can't see why I'm annoyed and just says he'll get something else today. AIBU to be annoyed that he didn't put any thought in?

I bought my two year old a toy for 3+ yesterday. Who should I see to tell me off please?

If my DP went out and bought lego for our DC and one DC didn't want it, I'd take it.
Lego is amazing, even if you're above 10. Grin
seriously though, he went out on a lads night, and brought his DC a present back. Thats lovely. YABVU.

Give the second box of Lego to your older child and give your younger child a treat to compensate - financial value does not have to be high, something like a special bike ride or trip to the park or some special bubble bath or getting to help make cakes then eat the first one.

I think your husband was trying to do something nice.

So all the people here saying he is thoughtless, lazy, unimaginative, etc, have never ever bought a bad gift for someone, ever? - Never just picked up a stocking filler at the last moment that was a bit naff, really? Of course not.

Of course I have. But I do think people can be expected to have a ballpark idea of how old their own kids are. Plus, the poor widdle man, so great to ring and see how his kids are AND buy them a present! Imagine that! stuff is a bit silly.

Poor guy sounds henpecked, he didn't have to buy them anything

True. But he didn't really think. Wasn't Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty available in Duty Free instead?

I would be a little bit Confused about why he'd bought Lego for a 2yo, yes, but one question - is it a set? Like a character set from a movie or suchlike? Because if it is, and you put that Lego by in the closet for ten or fifteen years, you may get a good deal of profit from it. My DB sold a few Lego sets that DF bought for him as a child but he never got (long story, they were out of touch for a long time) til he was older and got well over $200 for the three of them.
