Should I shut the kitten in the kitchen?

Heya, me again. Just a kinda quick question/follow up from my previous thread. (And thank you all so much for your great advice and support on that Thanks )

My kitten has been running around quite a bit this evening, think he's hit a bit of a hyper. Living in a top floor four in a block with my downstairs neighbours having previously complained about hearing him running. Should I shut him in the kitchen tonight? Kinda torn between the two since several of you said to stop tiptoeing about, but at the same time I don't want to cause them a disturbance/add more fuel to the fire.

Thanks again :) And here's my little bundle of fur attached, cute huh! (paragraphs alright this time?)

How can they hear him running.. do they have supersonic ears. He's just a ball of fluff? Hmm

TillyTellTale · 14/07/2014 22:44

No real advice, but your kitten is gorgeous. I want him!

Is it possible he'll make more noise, if he's left in a room with a tiled floor?

FriendlyAmoeba · 14/07/2014 22:46

Your neighbors can hear a kitten running? Confused

That's a building problem if a tiny 2lb creature is honestly disturbing them.

PhaedraIsMyName · 14/07/2014 22:47

He's far too young to be left in a room on his own at night.

Your neighbours sound a real joy.

QuietlyCurious92 · 14/07/2014 22:48

No idea Gamer chick, they complained the day after I got him (they saw me taking him inside, their dd wanted to pet him but he was scared and in his carrier). Anyway it's been one of their regular complaints now, how him racing about at night stops them relaxing.

Not sure how much noise he makes in the kitchen, I never hear him at night but feel so guilty that he's stuck there on his own :( he's a lovely affectionate wee thing, my baby now that my d's insists he's a big boy Sad

Don't lock him in the kitchen. It wouldn't be fair to the kitten and if he is anything like my cats it will just stress him out. He is so cute.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 14/07/2014 22:49

Oh my kitten is like thunder galloping around the house. Would be awful if i was in a flat with downstairs neighbours.

Mine sleeps in living room with the dog and his litter tray and water dish. Really he just curls up in the dogs tail and sleeps. Only really goes hyper during day time or early evening.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2014 22:50

Let him run free

Tell your neighbours his job is to catch and kill a flatulent mouse

We all know how loud mouse farts are. Your neighbours would be awake all night if the kitten didn't do his job.

PhaedraIsMyName · 14/07/2014 22:51

I really don't believe they can hear a kitten. I definitely wouldn't shut him in the kitchen at night on his own. He looks very young and he will be missing his mother.

QuietlyCurious92 · 14/07/2014 22:52

Pmsl worraLiberty, near enough literally lol

Seriously, take his hobnail boots off. How unreasonable can you be??

SuburbanRhonda · 14/07/2014 22:55

Just out of interest, OP, does your new kitten have access to a garden? Just that if he is running around now, heaven only knows how "hyper" he'll be once he's fully grown and never goes outside.

QuietlyCurious92 · 14/07/2014 22:58

I've a private garden (everyone does here) but they have two rather growly and snappy dogs that make a fuss if the kids go too near the fence, not sure what they'd do if I let him out and he went into their garden :s

OP posts:
PhaedraIsMyName · 14/07/2014 23:03

Quietly he probably won't go into their garden. It is not an unwavering fact of life that dogs hate cats but a cat will avoid a dog that looks as if it will bite.

PhaedraIsMyName · 14/07/2014 23:04

How do you get to your garden? Is it a common stair or do you have your own internal stair down to it?

Scarletohello · 14/07/2014 23:05

Oh he's so cute I'd want to take him to bed with me! :)

FriendlyAmoeba · 14/07/2014 23:05

If they complain, call their bluff. Tell them the kitten was in a carrier all night. See what they say.

whats4teamum · 14/07/2014 23:08

Have they supersonic hearing?

I have a big ginger tom and tbh he does thunder down the stairs. However when he was that size he was like a ball of fluff floating around.

He is gorgeous and they are daft.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2014 23:13

It's because he's ginger isn't it? Sad

This is gingerism at its worst.

QuietlyCurious92 · 14/07/2014 23:13

I've stairs leading from my door into my garden and they have a couple steps leading from their door into their own garden, there's a gate joining the gardens too.

He's called Tig and can be a little noisy when running constantly but since I got him he's mostly been in the kitchen at nights, tonight he's been meowing to get out though, feel really bad for it but again I don't want to cause a lot of problems.

muffinino82 · 14/07/2014 23:18

YABU to consider that he should sleep anywhere but in your bed Grin

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 14/07/2014 23:23

Yes they meow like newborn babies! It's heartbreaking. We were in the garden yesterday and i could hear kitten meowing so loud for us. It's awful- i cant bear it. If he did it at night he's just be in the bed with me tbh but he's happy enough with the dog and sometimes ds1 takes him to his bed.

PhaedraIsMyName · 14/07/2014 23:33

He'd be in my bedroom.

YouTheCat · 14/07/2014 23:33

Release that poor baby! He should be snuggled up somewhere, not stuck in the kitchen.

coolaschmoola · 14/07/2014 23:42

If you want to put it in the kitchen then do so. My kitten sleeps in the kitchen and stays in the kitchen when I go out. When I'm in she follows me everywhere and spends evenings in a mix of mad half hours and curled up on my knee.

Our kitchen is 19ft long though, so she has plenty of room to play, her litter tray is in there, as is one of her scratch posts, her food/water, her toys and her bed and blanket. She has a teddy that I put in with her mother and siblings for a few days before we brought her home and she sleeps all snuggled up to that. When she wants me she makes herself known LOUDLY. When I go to bed she is silent, usually all curled up asleep in her bed before I go up - but if I'm not downstairs dishing out breakfast by 7am she miaows at full volume until I appear. She has never shown any distress at being in the kitchen overnight, it's her safe space.

Mind you I think she thinks she is a parrot as she rides around the house on my shoulder, so maybe my advice only applies to feathered creatures!
