To be annoyed with my friend saying she's broke all the time?

Every time I see her she always seems to mention how broke she is and how she is scraping by.

I saw her yesterday and she has just bought a £7000 watch!!! Shock When I said I thought you were broke she said she is and her current account is empty but this money was from their savings account Hmm.

I find it quite insulting, she knows we are in financial difficulty at the moment and don't have any savings so if anyone is broke it's us not her!

I'm sorry if you think IABU but if you can afford to buy a watch for that much money then you're not broke and shouldn't say you are all the time.

Not planning to meet up again any time soon!

I'm similar to koala- technically I have the money coming in, but is usually earmarked for something in an asset rich/cash poor situation. I have chosen to have less disposable income in order to live in a nicer house, drive a nicer car, save to go on holiday, start saving in general. So I sacrifice going out getting drunk (the thing I most often turn down on affordability basis), have packed lunches and am quite tight about food shopping.
I wouldn't go round moaning that I'm skint in general though, if there's something I decide I can't afford I either say that or else make a general excuse (depends who is inviting me).

Everyone has different priorities though- I know people who do without cars/hols/etc to so they have money to burn each month on a whim. I think you need to know what gives you the most pleasure to spend your disposable income on, eg 10 nights out pays for a summer holiday, and I know which one is rather having when I'm looking back.
Also people face different concepts of being skint- to some it's when you hit zero, or less than

Next time she complains about being broke, say to her 'not to worry, just sell that watch and you can afford it, I'm sure' Grin.
