I mean, I know there's the day setting up the tent and the mornings/lunchtimes/evenings trying to cook for a family over a match, but..

Where's the relaxation? The laying in the sun? The chilling in a hammock? The swimming (in warm water)?

I just don't get it Sad

Ps I also like going on lovely luxurious holidays so agree with the PP that enjoying camping and enjoying luxury aren't mutually exclusive

IMHO the trick to fun camping is not to do it in a tent if you are over 25. We glamp in a fully loaded caravan and it's super comfy.

I'm not a fan of walking to the loo at 2am - where I live there are bears and cougars, so no thanks!

I require a heater, a loo and a bed off the ground. Camping for the middle aged Grin

I cooked spaghetti bolognaise and a fry up on my two burner stove with grill on mynfirst time camping 2 weeks ago.

it pissed down..nearly all weekend apart from the evenings and we managed to bbq too

Having the right equipment really does help, and the kids loved it and want to go again

Mrsjayy · 11/07/2014 16:37

Mrsjayy · 11/07/2014 16:38

The nearest I've come is a motorhome. An enprmous American Winnebago with toilet, shower, stove and sink (with running water).

And that really stretched my camping tolerance levels...

But its funny though and in a weird sense, our camping trips have provided great family memories Grin.

We can (only now) look back and laugh at the time our next door neighbours (separated by 2 thin layers of canvas and not much space) watched back to back episodes of Benidorm (complete with foul language) from 6pm to 2am whilst we tried to get our 4 year old twins to sleep.

Or the time we 'glamped' in a camping pod in the Lakes when DD (aged 6 at the time) walked in and asked where the rest of the rooms were Grin, and despite saying it was a Pod to sleep 6, we could not get 5 blow up mattresses in it in any configuration whatsoever. And that it rained (and I mean sheeting rain) from 12 noon Day 1 until 6pm Day 2. All. Day. And. Night. Without. A. Single. Break.
