I get horrendous pms and it's just kicked in today Sad, feeling really blue, sluggish and crampy. The ONLY thing I'm looking forward to is a little munch and the telly this evening when DD has gone to bed!

I know exercise and healthy diet would probably be much more beneficial for my mood and pain but please, share with me your favourite comfort foods for this time of month!

OP posts:

Warm baguette stuffed with warm Camembert !

SquigglySquid · 09/07/2014 16:35

Icecream is my go to food for PMS, that and sometimes popcorn and french friends.

JennySense · 09/07/2014 16:38

Surprised we mostly want the same things

I want cheese, crisps, nuts, avocados...

honeybeeridiculous · 09/07/2014 16:39

I forgot to mention cheese!
Cheese toasty,
shepherds pie smothered in cheese and grilled,
On a nigh shift I often crave a slab of cheddar But never remember to take any!

FoxSticks · 09/07/2014 16:45

Cheese is the ultimate comfort food I think. Anyone who loves a really cheesy macaroni has to try Lorraine Pascals glam mac and cheese - it is amazing :)

CroydonFacelift · 09/07/2014 16:50

Jacket potato with the soft part scooped out, mashed up with cream cheese and chives, put back in the skins and then topped with grated cheese and put under a hot grill until crispy and bubbling.

Some form of pasta bake topped with lots of crispy, melted cheese (can you see a theme yet? Grin)

Trifle

Cheesecake

Bacon sarnies

Basically, lots of saturated fat and salt/sugar!

Its the only time I eat crap like this, though, so I reckon once or twice a month isnt that bad.

Germgirl · 09/07/2014 18:01

Honey, I always try to take a few bits of cheese with me for a night shift, I have hummus & carrots and some cheese, basically a mumsnet lunchbox!, the cheese goes all soft as I don't put it in the fridge. The best bit of a nightshift is the 2am cheese!!

slightlyglitterstained · 09/07/2014 18:14

Similar to previous replies, mash, macaroni cheese, also spaghetti with lentil & tomato sauce & lots of cheese on top, etc.

Period comfort food though is often a cup of hot chocolate with a teaspoonful of cinnamon stirred in. Heard that cinnamon is supposed to be an emmenagogue & tried it, actually seems to help (or maybe I just like cinnamon).

itsasadsadsituation · 09/07/2014 18:18

sausage and mash with brown sauce
chocolate cake with custard

Darn it. I am craving them now!

slightlyglitterstained · 09/07/2014 18:33

Oh, also love savoy cabbage (or any dark green leafy stuff tbh) stir fried with ginger, spring onions, garlic and lots of soy sauce, with white rice.

Salt & pepper deep fried tofu.

Any kind of leafy green, steamed and drenched in butter.

Just didn't think of it due to all the replies talking about cheese!

CMOTDibbler · 09/07/2014 18:36

macaroni cheese
risotto with cream and lots of parmesan
mash with gravy

Shockers · 09/07/2014 18:38

Sweetcorn eaten straight from the tin, or just hardboiled eggs, cut in half and smothered in mayonnaise and cayenne pepper.

makeminea6x · 09/07/2014 18:41

Fish pie.

Jacket potato with cheese and beans

Digestive biscuits

Hoppinggreen · 09/07/2014 18:41

Egg mayo sarnie or white toast with loads of butter and bovril

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2014 18:43

Marmite on toast
Fish finger sandwiches

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2014 18:44

Also peanut butter on toast

germgirl I'm gonna start remembering to take some cheese and crackers on a night shift! that would go down a treat! For some reason I only ever want to eat crap on a night shift, salad and fruit just doesn't cut it!

Muffin1 · 09/07/2014 20:00

Cream of tomato soup with a cheese toastie...mmmmm

MrsKranky · 09/07/2014 20:01

Giant Yorkshire pudding (homemade NOT aunt Bessie's!) filled with chips and gravy!! Yum yum yum!!!

confusedgirlfromtheShire · 09/07/2014 20:01

Tartiflette.

If that sounds a bit affected - it's basically potato slices, chopped onion, garlic, BACON and soft french cheese chucked in a dish with cream poured all over the top and baked for 10 mins! Heavenly.

BeetlebumShesAGun · 09/07/2014 20:07

Corned beef hash and beans.

Mmmmm. I never get to have it because DP hates it. Whenever I go to my mums on my own I demand it Grin

WyrdByrd · 09/07/2014 21:02

Spaghetti hoops with mini sausages or cream of tomato soup with thick, buttered white toast.

Cheese & Broccoli 'pasta & sauce' with added broccoli, red pepper, leeks, mushrooms & bacon topped with grated mature cheddar.

Rarely eat pasta otherwise Confused
