What?

aquashiv · 08/07/2014 11:26

Blue?

PeterParkerSays · 08/07/2014 11:27

So long as it will grow out by the end of August I'd let them go for it. Who's idea is it - theirs or yours?

5toocoolforschool · 08/07/2014 11:27

Aibu to let my boys have blue mohawks?

Sorry.sausage fingers.

They don't go to school hence no worries about it being allowed there.?? it was oldest idea.

I can't work out if this is serious or not.

Why would you want or allow your young boys to have a blue mohawk hair - it will look bad beyond belief.

Tram lines are just about forgiveable but blue mowhawk??? Yuck......

Ilovehamabeads · 08/07/2014 11:29

For school yabu if it goes against any of the schools rules. For the summer holidays, yanbu.

atticusclaw · 08/07/2014 11:29

If they're still at school then presumably they will be excluded since it won't comply with the uniform policy. Not the sort of thing you want on their record.

Children want a lot of things they can't have...

AuntieStella · 08/07/2014 11:30

YWBU to ignore the other parent's view, or to fire up the DC to whinge for something that it's not agreed they should have.

Is there a decent blue temp dye available? DD tried a purple one for a party and was sorely disappointed.

atticusclaw · 08/07/2014 11:30

Oh ok, not at school.

Even so, it will look horrendous.

CoffeeTea103 · 08/07/2014 11:32

No just no. You don't want your kids looking tacky, its not 'cool'.

5toocoolforschool · 08/07/2014 11:34

It looks really good!

Have only used hair chalks, they wash out.

They have a friend who had it done and wanted the same.we are going to a few festivals offer the next few weeks so thought it would be fun.

I am on the fence with this. I like seeing young kids express themselves and don't judge them (unless it's obviously the parents trying to look edgy through their offspring). But I don't let mine do outlandish things to their hair, in case others judge them IYSWIM.

Also, with the teenage years looming for DS, I don't want to remove the option of easy to live with rebellion such as this by letting him do it now.... I worry this might cause him to rebel in other ways later, things more unappealing than a stupid hair cut that I can pretend to be shocked by!

5toocoolforschool · 08/07/2014 11:38

Haha yes I see your point dials

BoomCakesNation · 08/07/2014 11:47

Do it! It's the Summer and it's a lovely way to express themselves without too much effort (bar the initial dying process). Perhaps though start with just doing the tips to see how the dye affects their hair / fades out? And you can see how in your face it is.
I'd recommend mixing a little dye with a conditioner at first to dilute the colour, and Boots have an amazing new range of temporary colours which do last well(I am currently sporting pink, blue and purple streaks from their range!).
You're only little for a short while and if these dyes had been available when I was younger i'd have loved them.
Boo sucks to anyone judging for coloured hair - you can't please everyone!

Bowlersarm · 08/07/2014 11:50

Do it. Summer holidays perfect time for outlandish hard cuts. They'll grow out in a few weeks.

I'd have normal hair cuts by September though, whether you home school or not.

HavanaSlife · 08/07/2014 11:52

I can't see a problem if they don't have school and it's what they want. Ds2 had his pink at that age for children in need

Stinkle · 08/07/2014 11:56

I'm generally of the opinion, that as long as it fits with school rules and it's not permanent, well...it's just hair - it grown/washes out

Hair chalks that wash straight out? Meh, I couldn't care less.

My DD's high school is strict about wacky styles and colours, but my DD wants to dip dye hers red. It's against school rules so we're doing it during the summer holidays, then cutting the red ends off before she goes back to school. It's her hair, as long as it's a normal colour when she goes back to school in September, she can knock herself out

BlackeyedSusan · 08/07/2014 12:00

they are boys. it will grow out fairly quickly. why not.

Adikia · 08/07/2014 12:07

why not, My sister first dyed her hair postbox red for the summer holidays when she was 4 (she was copying me) her only rebellion now she's 16 is she has rainbow striped hair which is awesome and really suits her.

I would suggest using something like stargazer or directions dyes though as I'm not sure how good some of the more chemical dyes would be for young skin/hair

DogCalledRudis · 08/07/2014 13:00

Yanbu. On holidays it will look cool
