to sleep in a nappy?

Have leaked through two night-time pads & super plus tampon in a 7 hr sleep. Feel crap, won't be going anywhere today. So what to do? Sleep on a pile of towels? Set the alarm clock every 3 hours? Wear a nappy over the top of everything? What do you do?

Get down to boots and get yourself some tranexamic acid lady

PumpkinsMummy · 06/07/2014 09:33

oh bless you, that sounds horrible. If you have a nappy that fits yeah why not? I would put a couple of pads in there too and some towels on the bed so you know you are safe and can relax enough to sleep, then off to the Dr on Monday, as that is not a normal amount of bleeding surely. Although all this one eggcup full per period is complete bollocks.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2014 09:33

Sleep on towels.

I think it would be worth booking a GP appointment.

ICanSeeTheSun · 06/07/2014 09:38

This isn't normal and I would book an appointment with a GP.

Before your period is due I would take ibuprofen (Nurofen)
As it says on the packet, I think every 6 hours as NSAID Meds work to lighten periods.

goodasitgets · 06/07/2014 09:41

Ibruprofen regularly. Tampon or mooncup plus pads. Two pairs of knickers to keep in position. Sleep on doubled up towel, book GP appointment

londonrach · 06/07/2014 09:45

Poor you. Suggest you book to see the gp. X

newfavouritething · 06/07/2014 09:49

Thanks, have been to the GP and he didn't seem to concerned. Might go & see another one. It seems to be alternate months that I struggle with.

Tampon, night-time towel +sleep on bin bag and folded towel.
This isn't right- make GP appointment.
?fibroids or something.

cauliflowertears · 06/07/2014 10:05

I'm no dr but that sounds like you have a fibroid. I would see a gp asap - sorry to be negative but it will only get worse until its sorted. Based on bitter experience.

WhatsMyAgeAgain · 06/07/2014 10:09

Disposable sheets- for bedwetting children. Same kind of thing you sit on in hospital during and following labour. Prevent staining the mattress.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 06/07/2014 10:09

See a different GP, please

I had years of being fobbed off and lost days by being stuck in the house due to flooding, it's not healthy as you can quickly develop anaemia. I don't know about you, but my self-confidence took a massive blow and I lost friends due to me cancelling dates and meet-ups because needing to check pads etc was always on my mind.

If your GP isn't any help, your practice nurse should be more sympathetic and helpful.

Good luck

eurochick · 06/07/2014 10:12

I use a super plus tampon plus night towel and set an alarm for the middle of the night so they get changed halfway through.

crazykat · 06/07/2014 10:12

I used to be like this and it was horrible. Tranexamic acid and naproxen have it mostly under control now.

Go back to the GP and tell them you need something as you can't go on like this. Refuse to be fobbed off with anything other than treatment.

happylittlevegemites · 06/07/2014 10:19

I used to use those tens lady incontinence pull ups. When I started the pill, instantly I was able to last the night with just a Tampa and a pad.

Helloandhowdoyoudo · 06/07/2014 11:09

Try lilets ultra tampons and nighttime incontinence pads - see me through the night, also the ibruprofen also works if taken when you first start. I have fibroids so have been dealing with this for a few years :(

Chwaraeteg · 06/07/2014 11:16

Hi,

Yanbu.

When I had really heavy bleeding from my cesarean though, I wore tena protective underwear discreet, which were amazing (although the sizes were v. Small). I think boots also do a version of these.

HPparent · 06/07/2014 11:16

You can try the tens lady incontinence pants. I would go to the GP this is not normal. I was referred to the hospital and prescribed provera which worked really well.

Chwaraeteg · 06/07/2014 11:17

I led say the medium size is about a size 10-14 if that helps.

HedgehogHairbrush · 06/07/2014 11:20

Tranexamic Acid has helped me loads. I also bought lovely thick dark towels from Primark and sleep on them. I find menstrual cups much better than tampons.

Birdsgottafly · 06/07/2014 12:11

Tena's, were recommended on the Menopause topic, or exceptional heavy bleeds, they work better than pads.

Tesco have red towels on sale at present.

I have to sleep on a towel and wear thick PJ bottoms.

Catswiththumbs · 06/07/2014 12:18

I was going to recommend a menstrual cup over tampons too.
I used to flood like this, but since using mooncup my flow, and also the length of my period has decreased.
TMI maybe but when I flooded it was more clots than liquid, which tampons are rubbish for.

JessyJames · 06/07/2014 12:22

Definitely back to a different GP,you need a referral to a gynaecologist. I've had the same problem for years, I've been so anaemic I've been very breathless. It is so wearing isn't it?

I've recently been seen by a gynaecologist (2nd opinion as 1st didn't want to do anything), I'm due to have a keyhole hysterectomy soon.

There are plenty of other treatment options available, my childbearing years are over so this is the best option for me!

iggymama · 06/07/2014 12:56

Hippychick mattress protectors are great, I also agree see a different GP. Spatone sachets are good to top up your iron levels.

BettyFlour · 06/07/2014 12:59

I agree with PP. use lillets "ultra" plus a pad. Then boxer shorts (I have an old pair of DH's)

BettyFlour · 06/07/2014 13:02

Boxer shorts on top of your knickers.

God only knows how many mattresses I've ruined. But since finding Lillets ultra and lillets "super plus extra", I have managed to leak less. However even with the "super plus extra" I still wake once a night to change tampons. I can't go 7-8hrs on the first 2 days.
