Disclaimer: Lighthearted

Is 'methinks' the most over used word of 2014? Are there any other words that seem to be overused at the moment and are becoming really annoying?

It's like the new 'random'.

I'm glad to say I know no one who does this.

It makes me think of this guy

Sorry I couldn't resist

shakethetree · 03/07/2014 10:54

I wouldn't be friends with anyone who says 'methinks' - I'd rather they lol'd.

YANBU

Barbierella · 03/07/2014 10:55

I even had someone recently write their facebook update with 'me thinks' at the end.
If you're going to write it at least spell it right?

YANBU. This isn't Rentaghost.

porteresque · 03/07/2014 11:23

METHINKS is often used in a lighthearted way

bobbywash · 03/07/2014 11:45

Is this a northen think (keeping in a lighthearted vein and not being northernist)

Rubadubstylee · 03/07/2014 11:47

YANBU.

So irritating.

MardyBra · 03/07/2014 11:54

Yanbu on the methinks issue. It just makes the users sound like a prat.

YABU to issue a lighthearted disclaimer.

McBear · 03/07/2014 12:09

What's the origins??? I only ever hear it when someone is being a cunt but wants to come across as less of a cunt.

Stinkle · 03/07/2014 12:15

Fanks!!!! Grin

My mum says mateypeeps when I've been naughty and she's being a cunt. I'm fairly certain she would sign off with methinks mateypeeps.

I left home over ten years ago. I still get told off. Confused

Barbierella · 03/07/2014 17:26

Ye simples too drives me nuts

Did you really just call your mum a c* Mcbear Shock

FernMitten · 03/07/2014 17:35

Yes, as StephenIJC mentioned, only Timothy Claypole should be allowed to say this and it was pretty irritating when he said it tbh.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/07/2014 17:39

Barbierella

You know there can only be one response to this post don't you?

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

McBear · 03/07/2014 17:58

Terrible aren't I Atticus?! Shock

It's ok. It not in an offensive way Grin

ithoughtofitfirst · 03/07/2014 18:33

Yeah really annoying.

Plus it doesn't sound great in my accent I'm not gonna lie.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 03/07/2014 18:38

Arf at Rentaghost - that's exactly what I think of when I hear it.

Gadzooks!

TillyTellTale · 03/07/2014 18:43

Methinks not.

t's okay if i start the sentence with 'methinks', right? Right?

Montegomongoose · 03/07/2014 19:10

Timothy Claypole!

If I paid subs to mumsnet that would have made them worth every penny.

My PIL uses methinks.

I suspect he believes it adds gravitas to whatever ill-thought-out ignorant drivel he has just boomed at us.

Rather in manner of glitter on a turd.

MardyBra · 03/07/2014 23:42

Montego Next time PIL uses "methinks", why not ask him why is is talking like a medieval peasant.

greyhound I think it predates Shakespeare, but I'm sure it's in Hamlet. I quite like methought, as in "Methought I was enamored of an ass".

Montegomongoose · 03/07/2014 23:46

mardy good call.

I will struggle to understand through the golf club that will be jammed sideways in his cakehole, but I'll do my best.
