Nothing else to add, but nice to read people still play board games.

Ds favourite is doggy doo

phantomnamechanger · 30/06/2014 21:37

in that case YABU Grin

CheeryName · 30/06/2014 21:39

There is one called Volcano Island which is brilliant - the players are all racing together to beat timer/volcano eruption so no one wins or loses, have played it with 7-9 year olds and it's great fun.

Lesshastemorespeed · 30/06/2014 21:40

Our doggy doo is permanently constipated due to excessive force feeding of non regulation doggy doo food.

How about a crib board?

dementedma · 30/06/2014 21:41

We bought Carcassone 2 years ago and still haven't figured out how to play it yet! Dh and I used to like Othello.
Dh and Ds play risk sometimes, but not hugely into board games here.
I used to like Cluedo.

Madratlady · 30/06/2014 21:43

Tsuro is a good game, very simple, not too long and even the 3yo would probably manage it.

sausageandorangepickle · 30/06/2014 21:44

If he is into Lego too their board games are good fun - you build the board before you start and can alter it as you go. We've got Minotaurus (sp?) and it is really simple, but still a good laugh - I played it with DS's aged 15 and 13 recently and they still enjoyed it.

Also pictureka is another that is simple to play, but hard, so everyone gets drawn in.

StanleyLambchop · 30/06/2014 21:46

How about Mousetrap? You get the added bonus of the post- game argument about whose fault it was that the trap failed (it always fails, the crank never quite kicks the bucket, the helping hand fires off too early, the diving man misses the bath tub etc) Hours of fun!

MuddlingMackem · 30/06/2014 21:51

I don't really do board games, just can't get into them these days, but DH is well into them. He says our 7 year old DD can play Munchkin with help, and she likes Once Upon A Time.

Madratlady · 30/06/2014 22:07

Carcassonne is not really difficult to play. The acoring system is unnecessarily baffling though.

Pipbin · 30/06/2014 22:09

I have Carcassonne, I couldn't figure out the scoring either.

Qwirkle, get qwirkle.

Aw, my two love board games.
Firm favourite at the moment is Greedy Gorilla
www.amazon.co.uk/Orchard-Toys-041-Greedy-Gorilla/dp/B000A42CDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404163650&sr=8-1&keywords=greedy+gorilla+game
You say he's young in himself. He'll love this then as if you feed the gorilla junk food, it burps. Grin
Basically a game where you have a menu board of nice healthy dinners each and you have to match the cards to your food (kind of like pairs.)
If you unearth a junk food card, feed it to the gorilla. Hilarity ensues. Grin

PixieofCatan · 30/06/2014 22:43

Ooo carcassone! It's brilliant! They're releasing these themed versions of it that are slightly different from the normal version, I played the one with fish, shells and bananas a few weeks ago and it was brilliant, I don't own it though :( It's simpler (I think!) than the original carcassone.

What's the pigeon game? I found that amusing but only played it once?! Pigeons in Italy.

There's a really good game about building up a city too and you get different 'boards' to place to make up the city.

I lodged with board game freaks for 18 months, DP and I were routinely subjected to their various board games Grin We go visit them once every couple of months or so to play boardgames still too Grin

fairnotfair · 30/06/2014 23:01

Sorry (Hasbro) is brilliant. DS2 (7) loves it, and the whole family can play.

Madratlady · 30/06/2014 23:03

The problem with Carcassonne is the bloody fields.

We like small world although i don't know whether it'd be a good one for a 7 yr old. I second the suggestion to get Ticket to Ride though.

Permanentlyexhausted · 30/06/2014 23:08

Guess Who, Connect 4, Scrabble, Monopoly, What!, Dominoes.

angelohsodelight · 01/07/2014 05:56

Mokop

angelohsodelight · 01/07/2014 05:57

!!!!

Monopoly empire is fab!!!! Doesn't go on for years like normal monopoly.

MoreTeaPenguin · 01/07/2014 06:19

We like Monza with our nearly 4 year old, it's nice and quick and simple http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4209/monza

My 6year old loves 'sleeping queens ' which is also very portable because it has a small box. Also good is forbidden island because it is a CO-OP game.

For adults I recommended 'resistance Avalon'

SaltaKatten · 01/07/2014 06:26

Forbidden desert is great, our 9 year old daughter is really keen on it, and it's fun to work together to win, playing against the game.

FairyPenguin · 01/07/2014 07:07

My 7yo loves Exact Change (similar to Uno but with British coins so great for learning to add up currency), and also Battleships.
