To think people should use these words/phrases more often

Inspired by the 'hubster' thread, there are several words and phrases in our glorious language that have been much neglected of late, and I resolve to use them more often.

My current favourites:

"I don't like the cut of your jib"

"steal a march [on someone]"

"lollygagging"

What words and/or phrases do you think should be brought back into common parlance?

Bab

As in 'Mum, I've babbed my pants' or 'That is bab'

I like the words fruitless and turncoat Smile

OhFFSWhatsWrongNow · 30/06/2014 13:12

"Stop fannying about" is a favourite in this house Grin as is "heavens to Betsy!"

Tinuviel · 30/06/2014 13:35

FFS, that is very popular here and easy to change to 'Stop faffing about' in front of small children!

Andrewofgg · 30/06/2014 13:41

"Is this a good time to talk?" To be asked by ILs and the answer listened to and respected.

And when I was in my teens faffing about was called fucking the dog - an activity which was pointless and not even much fun.

OberonTheHopeful · 30/06/2014 13:44

I say 'steal a march' sometimes. I also like 'that's all fine and dandy' Smile

Gormless, trousers, hooligan, smashing!

Revenant · 04/07/2014 21:04

I regularly lollygag. I don't think "behoove"happens often enough..

MehsMum · 04/07/2014 21:08

DH likes 'especial'. I'm keen on 'aforesaid'.

Twitten a word I miss. My DM was from Sussex and used it all the time, but it just doesn't come naturally to me.

Lollygag is new to me.

nameuschangeus · 04/07/2014 21:20

I've recently taken a liking to 'lumme' but I don't know where I got it from. I also like 'heavens to Betsy'.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 04/07/2014 21:20

I love 'cock a snoop' and whippersnapper

I do tend to use lawks rather more often than I'd like, but trying not to let DD hear 'fucking Nora' too often

Ooh, and two big favourite expressions recently are : 'if it looks like bullshit and smells like bullshit, it's probably bullshit' and 'you can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter'. I feel sad that I don't get more occasions where these two can be used.

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 04/07/2014 21:28

Coming in from the Chalet school thread, I can contribute:

"What's the why of that?"
"She is the outside of enough"
and
"So put that on your needles and knit it".

JennyOnTheBlocks · 04/07/2014 21:33

Just used 'skullduggery' on another thread

Another favourite is rapskallion
