WorraLiberty · 25/06/2014 10:10

Probably

Why do you ask?

numptieseverywhere · 25/06/2014 10:11

so much Facebook snobbery..

Mumof3xox · 25/06/2014 10:11

I don't use Facebook

I don't trust myself to do so

I have far too much to say

KellyElly · 25/06/2014 10:12

Yes YABU for starting ANOTHER facebook thread.

ssd · 25/06/2014 10:15

kelly that wasnt the question!

and its not snobbery, its just an observation that people who seem to post multiple mundane facebook updates seem to have nothing else in their lives to occupy their time.....

OP posts:
numptieseverywhere · 25/06/2014 10:17

well most of life is mundanity interspersed with moments of beauty and pleasure. You could say Facebook is just a mirror of that.
People who play out their relationships on Facebook however, fuck me off. If you love him, tell him. Don't tell Facebook.

PeppermintInfusion · 25/06/2014 10:21

YANBU if it's about people that post stream of consciousness drivel multiple times a day, live out passive aggressive arguments with their OH or air their dirty laundry.

But I think people who get condescending about those who make announcements, share the odd pic of their kids etc are BU, as that's the point of FB so they should either change their privacy settings or defriend these distant acquaintances that they don't want to share their life with.

gellicleCat · 25/06/2014 10:26

FB is mostly populated by the kids who used to laugh at the swot in school. They now wonder why the swot is living in a flash house and doing very nicely thank you and CBA with FB

Suzannewithaplan · 25/06/2014 10:39

Empty vessels make the most noise

MammaTJ · 25/06/2014 11:32

How about on MN? Or is FB the only social network that you are against?

FreeSpirit89 · 25/06/2014 11:37

Or some people live far away from relatives and use it too keep up to date.

cardibach · 25/06/2014 11:56

How do you work that out gellicleCat? I was that swat. I and my school friends from 30+ years ago are all on FB Confused
As are my University friends and my (mostly professional) current friends. I don't think there is a maximum IQ for FB use Hmm

lacktoastandtolerance · 25/06/2014 12:20

All people who post to Facebook? Or just those who post over a certain number of times a day? What are the guidelines?

maudpringles · 25/06/2014 12:25

I do like a limited amount of facebook but have found that if you are out and about enjoying life you dont have the time or thought to be on there.
I am not knocking it though, just that if you have the time to update your status 6 times a day, you cant be very involved with what you are actually doing?

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/06/2014 12:26

I post a whole load of old crap, mainly pictures of cats and food, probably because I have little else to do!

treaclesoda · 25/06/2014 12:31

I'm strangely fascinated by how people who dislike facebook are so obsessed with facebook. Some facebook haters seem to expend far more energy on it than most of the people I know who actually use it.

""am I right?""

No.

However, YANBU, about your friends, of course, perhaps use your experience to surround yourself with more interesting people.

lacktoastandtolerance · 25/06/2014 12:57

"However, YANBU, about your friends, of course, perhaps use your experience to surround yourself with more interesting people."

Yes, this - my Facebook feed is full of interesting things, because I've hidden anything dull and I try to have friends who are ... you know ... actually interesting people.

It's always someone else's fault Wink

EleanorHandbasket · 25/06/2014 13:02

I update FB pretty much daily, sometimes more often. I have a full time job, three kids, great husband, lots of hobbies, we're mid house move, my life is pretty much full to the brim.

So, er, YABU and a bit weird.

manicinsomniac · 25/06/2014 13:06

YABU

My experience of prolific facebook users (of which I am one) are that they either:

a) have masses going on, lots to share, lots to update people on etc.

b) have a very strong political/religious/social stance that they like to share about

c) have a lot of spare time on their hands

d) find real life interaction quite difficult due to logistics, personality, health or mental health

e) are serious procrastinators

lacktoastandtolerance · 25/06/2014 13:15

I think I ticked 4/5 there, manic...

hazeyjane · 25/06/2014 13:15

Most of the people I know on FB who post a lot of updates have children with disabilities, which means that they may spend more time at home, need connections to people who are in similar situations - but may not have that in rl, homeschool (so share resources, info online) etc.

My ds has a very rare genetic condition, it is unlikely that we would meet anyone in rl with the same condition, but through FB I connect with families all around the world. I also have 2 'FB friends' whose children have sn and are the same age as ds, and starting school at the same time. It can be very isolating having a child with disabilities - sharing the experience, even the minutiae of everyday life, really helps.

Rhine · 25/06/2014 13:21

People get very touchy on threads like this I've noticed. I agree with you OP, I think that the people who fill their feeds with constant updates about every last fart, shit and piss that they've done actually have very boring lives with little going on in then. My mum lives her life through it a bit, she updates her status several times a day, and actually plans what she's going to put on there in advance. And yes, she does have a pretty boring life (not being mean, she does, no hobbies etc).

Facebook is a great tool for keeping in touch with people, but I think too many people use it as a means of attention seeking.

mindthegap79 · 25/06/2014 13:41

gelliclecat - well get you! I too was that swot at school, also doing very nicely and absolutely love FB for keeping up to date with long distance family and friends.

Are you only friends with other 'swots'?
