I feel quite bad.

This person is an acquaintance, She was a single parent for a few months, then she met someone who pretty much moved in, he was paying her bills for her and moved in properly earlier this year.

She has always worked full time with a salary of around 20k.

She seems to have an awful lot of money, and, as a single parent myself, I couldnt quite work it out. However, I have seen her tax credits renewal form as she didnt understand something and asked me to have a look for her, and shes claiming to be a lone parent, working 16.3 hours a week, earning 12k a year less than she actually is.

She is also claiming housing benefit as a single parent.

So, I have completed the DWP form and sent it off. I couldnt help it, it makes me see red.

But I now feel terrible.

You're getting hassle for several reasons:

1, You don't really know if this is fraud or not.

2, Even if you did know, the decent thing would be to warn her and then take action if you really believed it to be fraud.

3, You don't really seem to care about fraud; you acted out of spite

4, Your story is full of holes

5, You are neither here nor there on this: you feel guilty but why should you if you are so sure you are right?

You're getting hassle because you are a cowardly custard.

KirjavaTheCat · 23/06/2014 17:45

She life is full of handbags, shoes, days and meals out, holidays and boozy nights out.
I was asked to go along a few times but always had to decline as I just cant afford, or warrant spending that on myself, and she would ask me ' why cant you afford it, you need to sort your finances out' which is why I saw red and reported instantly.

Jealousy, pettiness.

basgetti · 23/06/2014 17:45

How do you know they were fraudently claiming? How many times on this thread does it need to be said that people can have their benefits stopped even if they haven't done anything wrong?

Gulitladen · 23/06/2014 17:45

Im sorry, do you know me?

How the hell have you deduced its sheer spite?

But go ahead, make your assumptions based on nothing, get outraged and have a go. But then remember that you are doing that based on assumptions and i reported based on more than assumptions. So, that kind of blows your point out of the water.

The 'arseholes' sneeze cakes are those who have been subject to awful things due to people behaving as the OP does.

I wuv you too, by the way. Mwah.

Sneezecakesmum · 23/06/2014 17:47

OP go back a page and see what I have put.

You are being goaded stop rising to it!

LeftyLoony · 23/06/2014 17:47

SirChengin - crochet = full of holes.

OP spite because of this very thread. The tone and nature of justification within.

VitoCorleone · 23/06/2014 17:48

VitoCorleone · 23/06/2014 17:48

LeftyLoony · 23/06/2014 17:48

I think you'll find someone else is goading, sneeze cakes.
Like you.

Wanna nub a kiss? Coochy Coochy....

patjen · 23/06/2014 17:49

I'd ask for this thread to be deleted if I were you, seriously, I would. God knows what you are after from it.

Either have the guts to tell her what you have done or just shut up about it.

Because there is no doubt-whichever way you look at it i.e. right or wrong to report her-you have acted in a cowardly fashion by not telling her what you have done/about to do.

You're a coward, OP. Own it.

Uptheairymountain · 23/06/2014 17:49

I wonder if people would think I'm fiddling the system?

Most of our food is from M&S all bought after 6pm when it's reduced to 25% or less of the original price

All DD's clothes are M&S or JL from the sales, when they're actually less than half the price of Primark, and from my local outlet's sale rail for 1 or so

I buy loads of new books from Poundland or other discount stores and from libraries at 10p each

I hope no one reports me!

LeftyLoony · 23/06/2014 17:49

Again, where does that very specific information cone from, OP?

The bit of paper that she waved or the one you helped with?

pianodoodle · 23/06/2014 17:49

So did you explain anything to her like she asked you to?

NickiFury · 23/06/2014 17:50

I've said it before and I will say it again, MN we NEED a nice, shiny medal emoticon why has this not been addressed?

One of the best things about this OP, is that as your friend works with her you'll be able to get daily updates, like your own little soap opera.

KirjavaTheCat · 23/06/2014 17:50

Indeed, did you help?

LeftyLoony · 23/06/2014 17:51

Up the - or it could be like me you get reported by someone who does it regularly to lots of other people for lolz.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 23/06/2014 17:51

*I haven't read the full thread, but i hope she finds out it was you OP, as if you grass on somebody, what is wrong with you?

Benefit fraud may be bad but i think being a rat is much worse.*

Oh it's the God Father Hmm

I suppose you will also condone the OP suffering harassment/violence if the couple find out it was her too wouldn't you because well SHE deserves it for being a grass.

There is no such thing as a victimless crimes.

SirChenjin · 23/06/2014 17:52

Agree with Sneeze

There are people on MN who would never, ever report anyone for benefit thieving, and there are people on MN who see benefit thieving as simple robbery and would report it as such.

OP - you've made a decision to report based on your suspicions. Don't look to MN for 100% approval because you won't get it. Instead, have the courage of your convictions, and use the non-reporters as a compass - do you value their opinions on the matter? No? Then there is your answer.

D0oinMeCleanin · 23/06/2014 17:52

And to claim housing benefit, you need to show them 3 months payslips, your last 3 months bank statements and your tax credits reward, so even OP's friend had managed to pull the wool over HMRCs eyes (unlikely) the council will have noticed the discrepancies between her payslips and the amount of earnings shown on the TC award notice.

longjane · 23/06/2014 17:52

I am sorry to say op that she will know who reported her. I know who reported me.
I was told what said on the phone msg.

As you know this person from the school you going to be meeting her and her mates for the next few years . Your children could be bullied for this .
And your children could lose freinds over this.
As others have tax credits are checked again I have to prove that ex had moved out . They will know she has someone living there. But he could be lodger.
And the fact the fact that you have reported her costs money to you and me.

Uptheairymountain · 23/06/2014 17:54

Ha, yeah Lefty (also hides Fiorelli and Radley bags bought off ebay for 10-15 just in case someone get jealous of them too)

Gulitladen · 23/06/2014 17:54

Thats what it said on her paperwork, on her tax credits claim for this coming year. It is not picked out of the air.

No, i would not report someone based on where they shop and to the poster that has just said that, if you read any of the thread you will see that is not the case at all.
