I broke my dp's iphone 5s today. He's insisting it's replaced with an iPhone 5s, I've offered him my iPhone 5 and I'll get a crap phone, or I'll buy him an iPhone 5c - but no, it has to be an iPhone 5s! Gah I know aibu but they cost over £500.....

Most things can be fixed. I just fixed my dds S4, cost £3.99 and a local shop fix screens for £15

So when he wrecks something, it comes out of joint funds, when you do, it comes out of your funds?

well that sounds fair. I am sure he sees that as totally reasonable. Hmm

Have you pointed out the double standard?

You know, accidents happen. When you're a family you don't get into all that pay me back buy me another you did that so I want this crap. That shit is for flatmates, not people who are shacked up and shagging.

I would have to assume that it was not broken on purpose, that it fell as the car door was closing. It was an accident wasn't it? We are all human and things break from time to time when dropped for whatever. You offered your phone for him to use, but that wasn't good enough. He sounds like he is being a chop about this I must say.

If it were the other way round, would he go and buy you a brand new phone?

I smashed the screen of dh iPhone when I dropped it on the floor

It was an accident. The money to repair it came from the joint account, not my own money.

Sounds like he's a foolish man. It's rare that paying outright for two cars to be fixed after an accident is cheaper than the insurance excess and three years premium increase...
