My child is going on a 3 day school trip to a European country.

Today I find out that the timing of the outward bound flight means that we have to get her to school for boarding the coach by 2.15am.

Aibu to think this is nuts?

Sorry your mother was such an old whingebag Nicki.

But try not to project. I shan't be whining in front of my dd, or complaining to the school, or any of those things I have been accused of doing on here. I'm having a good old-fashioned humphy on AIBU, like a sensible mum.

Well the OP doesn't think she WIBU not to do this trip again on the grounds that she'd miss a couple of nights sleep, she's just confirmed that.

Fine, I think that's pretty crap but do understand that you are making that judgement according to your own RL situation that only you can know OP.

That's the difference you see, I manage to say what I think without trying to force everyone to agree with me. I'm not talking about you there by the way OP.

NickiFury · 21/06/2014 15:21

Great stuff Mintyy Smile

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 21/06/2014 15:21

Just how sensible is it to have a moan on MN? Grin

Might take issue with that mintyy.

Singlesuzie · 21/06/2014 15:21

Perhaps the joke about the dc moaning about me on Mumsnet in years to come should have given it away though

Well no because you were being quite grumpy in all the post prior to that comment with no joking so really no reason to assume that wasnt another grumpy comment.

SecretWitch · 21/06/2014 15:22

Mintyy, that time would be difficult if not impossible for me. My husband works the overnight for the State Police. I could not leave a sleeping six year old home by herself, so would have the additional joy of a cranky, unhappy child. I need to be at work for 7am, this would be a night of no sleep for me and an overtired child at her minder's...

NickiFury · 21/06/2014 15:22

MD I so could have written your last post Grin

MadameDefarge · 21/06/2014 15:22

she talking about me! hurrah!

MadameDefarge · 21/06/2014 15:23

copycat!

Singlesuzie · 21/06/2014 15:24

Singlesuzie maybe the OP meant it but she was probably just venting. Nowt wrong with that.

Of course nothing wrong with venting. My post was in response to another poster saying someone else was taking things too literally. I was just pointing out that it seemed quite clear what OP meant.

Mintyy · 21/06/2014 15:24

Grin reckon.

Singlesuzie · 21/06/2014 15:27

Although OP has since both confirmed she was joking and that she wasnt so can understand why people are confused Confused

MadameDefarge · 21/06/2014 15:29

stop it, the kitten is looking scared

MadameDefarge · 21/06/2014 15:37

How dare you be grumpy about having to get up in the middle of the night?

Don't you know there are starving children in Sudan.
Is that really all you have to worry about?
I wish I had to get up in the middle of the night. I get 25 minutes sleep every third day but I feel lucky, lucky I tell you.
When I were a lass my mum had 12 kids and worked 20 hours a day, she never moaned once.

Did I miss anything?

Hulababy · 21/06/2014 16:17

I was chatting to Dh with this and he said he would prefer to 2am than 4am, like we had - at least after 2am you can go back to sleep. For us, although we tried, sleeping once being up at 4am wasn't happening.

Mintyy · 21/06/2014 16:31

I really doubt I'll be able to sleep either before or after a major nocturnal haitus like this, but then I am particularly rubbish at sleeping.

OP posts:
HaroldLloyd · 21/06/2014 17:14

Maybe you should make a night of it and get some narcotics in.

There's sure to be a rave on somewhere in London.

RandallFloyd · 21/06/2014 17:19

Akshewal lol @ Harold Grin

Hulababy · 21/06/2014 17:25

Snap - I struggle with getting to sleep. Even worse since arthritis pain became an issue. Dh is lucky - can sleep easily

velocitykate · 21/06/2014 23:11

I remember going on a school trip to France in primary school (equivalent of year five). We set off at 3am to drive down to the south coast for a ferry. One of my parents, uncomplainingly got me up and took me to school while the other one stayed with my younger brother and they swapped for the return. this trip was four days, during the Easter holidays, so a few teachers, lost four days of their holidays (and two night sleep), unpaid, to take us away and they did that every year. My parents did the same thing for my brother a year later and on a few occasions in secondary school when we went on trips.

I am precious about my sleep, but no way would I begrudge doing this for any of my children on as many occasions as is called for. Sorry OP, yabu

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 21/06/2014 23:15

Vk, unfortunately OP cannot leave the younger sibling at home as there isn't a second parent there to help out.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 21/06/2014 23:15

Btw, your parents may have complained to other parents and said nothing to you - just as OP has done here.
