Pop to the splasheries my lambs and after you've brushed your hair till it shines we'll have a quick practice of 'I sing of Margaret so fair'.

Once we've finished casting the movie, that is....

I was hoping there might be a part for my favourite actor Bill Nighy. He would make a good Plato but I see the newly knighted DDL has got in first.

About Madame's birthday - we need to organise bouquets, a tray of dainty china and a Grossmutter to make cakes.

sneakily peeking at relevant chapter in first book

First you need to be rude to a German (sorry Berliner)while shopping for the presents.

Until I read these Chalet school threads I hadn't really noticed how often EBD mentions looks, but it's constant, even for well known characters, for example every nearly every time Paula Von Rothenfel (sp?) is mentioned it says about her plain face obviosly Marie is beautiful but do Wanda is so much prettier - it's a wonder the poor girl doesn't end up with a complex.

Joey if you married him any earlier, it would actually be illegal. Even in the Tirol where the girls grow up early.

Happy I agree with you, Gina wins over Michelle. Although I would like a part for Michelle..

Let me think, she is self-contained, elegant, posh - maybe she could be a San patient. Mrs Linton? She'd be ace on the deathbed scene where Joey sings to her. Or Mary-Lou's Mums?...

juniper Joey is used to this... Rupert is rather delectable!!

Please make your choice from any other of the San Doctors. On the Doctor Vending Machine select A-Z and then the number of your choice. Your doctor will then appear in the slot at the bottom.

Do any of you Chalet School enthusiasts live in Perthshire and want the whole bloody set? My dad's wife died a couple months back, and he is trying to clear out her house to sell it (they never lived together) and he can't bear to part with anything. He wants everything to go to individuals he knows, so he can think of them enjoying it. So, any want all the chalet school books?? He'd love you to have them... As would I, he is really struggling to cope with the death and run to houses and gardens.

Sorry, totally off topic, just didn't know there were other enthusiasts, I never read them.

lazurda Bill Nighy could be the doctor who sends Jack the warning about Hitler? We could cut to Germany and also do a flashback of the night he and Jack slept together shared a room.

I do realise this is shaping up to be a long fillum.

both if they are originals would he consider selling them? I think he'd get a tidy sum.

Bothofyou - if you get no luck here try either Friends of the Chalet School (FOCS) or the Chaletian Bulletin Board (CBB), I suspect you'd be able to find someone who would gladly receive template on one of those.

Would having a mum in Perthshire do? Would love some of the books :)

Have only read one of the books set in Wales but might there be a part for Jonathan Rhys Myers do you think? He's Welsh and pretty lovely IMHO, though slightly dodgy I think Grin What about Catherine Zeta Jones for Gwensi Howell, who I think had dark curly hair?

Bothofyou what a lovely offer. I'm in Perthshire and would bite your hand off for them but a full set of Chalet books could be sold or donated as others have said.

Bothofyou if it's a complete set you might want to try a collector's fair or a book dealer? It is a very generous offer and made in the spirit of the Chalet School.

Hope everything is going as well as can be. Thinking of you.

Bothofyou, I'm in Edinburgh and would love them, but yes, they're probably worth a fair bit. Are they hardbacks or paperbacks? The hardbacks are unabridged and some of them are worth £50-£100 each (the rarer ones).

I like the idea of a younger Cher as Joey. Winona Ryder as teenage Jo and Cher as adult Jo. Think of The Witches of Eastwick - about the age Cher was then. She has the voice and the hair and she's not conventionally pretty...

TooImmature - or a younger Christina Ricci as the younger Jo? She can pull off the pallor.

Just reminded myself that I once wrote a Drabble in which Wednesday Addams started at the CS.

EBD could make me a few years older in the first book... Grin

It's a lovely offer Bothofyou but as others have said they could be worth a lot of money. Ggbp (Google them) or Topsy Turvy books could advise you.

Gruss Gott

Bothofyou - a complete set of CS book could be worth hundreds if they are reasonably early editions. Gill Bilski is another dealer who, I think, has links with GGB and the FOCS and might be able to help you.

Can I suggest Audrey Hepburn for Simone? I'm dying to fit her in somewhere.

Bothofyou I would love to take you up on the offer if I was closer. But you do need to look at how much they're worth. I once saw a whole set of Armadas go for over 200 on ebay (plus postage). If they're hardback then you may find just 2 or 3 of the rare ones will fetch more than that. I know a good copy of Jane (for example) was about 100 at one point.

Alternatively you could read them and see if you're as demented charmingly delighted by them as the rest of us. Grin

I suspect TopsyTurvy books (on internet, but I can pm you their email if you'd rather) may well be happy to sell them on for a commission, or buy them off you. They sell onto collectors who love the books generally.
And if you have others-Malcolm Saville, Monica Edwards, Antonia Forest, Violet Needham I know can be worth a bit as my purse is much lighter due to them Wink then I'm sure they would be interested to hear too.

Yes, definitely approach a dealer with those books, much as some of us would love them. Good luck.

I'm now having an arguement with my 9 year old dd about who my full set of CS books (plus some doubles when I've bought GGB ones) belong to. I say they are mine as I orginally bought them, she says they should now be hers as she is currently reading them and she wants to read them to her children when she has them. She'll have to fight me for them and I'll definately win.

Bothofyou, I think you would find a ready market for a full set of even Armarda ones and the people who buy them are going to be the people who love them for what they are (rather than what they can make from them) I think.

I think Kristen Scott Thomas would be a good Madge (She was described as dark haired in the books not blonde).

How about Celia Imrie with a white wig for Bill?
