Pop to the splasheries my lambs and after you've brushed your hair till it shines we'll have a quick practice of 'I sing of Margaret so fair'.

Once we've finished casting the movie, that is....

I wonder if Joey was ever a tiny bit pissed off with her precious babies see I can remember getting out if bed for the fucking millionth time when all of mine were babies and shouting (not at them at the wall) for fucks sake!!!!

NO, of course not, because Joey-mother-of-the-year's babies were all trained to obedience from very early and slept through at 6 weeks or something, remember? Apart from the devil-child who of course got shipped off to Canada.

Also, don't let Joey hear you hinting that she might like to get her precious earphones lopped off. Grin

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 26/06/2014 20:30

Can someone recommend me their favourite of the Swiss books, please? I am refusing to read in order but fancy giving a try to these, which I've so far been neglecting (with the exception of Oberland and New Mistress) and don't remember very well from my childhood reading.

RueDeWakening · 26/06/2014 20:41

Nell, I like Redheads, mostly because it is properly bonkers :o

RobinHumphries · 26/06/2014 20:42

I like Adrienne because I get to meet my long lost cousin

JoeyMaynardsghost · 26/06/2014 20:47

Joey always had help with her babies! And if not, the earphones stopped her hearing them cry. Grin

DeWee · 26/06/2014 21:09

Joey also managed to have precious little time actually looking after her precious babies.
I particularly remember one scene where she swans in makes one carefully positive comment on each of the toddler triplets then sends them off to be put to bed by others.

I can imagine her telling Len that now her hair's long enough she ought to put it in ear phones. Grin

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 26/06/2014 22:06

I like Ruey, but unless you like lacrosse, you might find all of that a big much... It's also lovely because there's very little of OOAO poking her nose in... I also rather enjoyed Coming of Age, because... Tyrol.

MooncupGoddess · 26/06/2014 22:11

I like Barbara, but probably just because it's one of the first CS books I ever read. Triplets is essential reading for the Maynard phenomenon at its best and worst...

TooSpotty · 26/06/2014 22:59

Triplets is dreadful though! I also like Coming of Age but there is much chapel tedium in it. Mary-Lou does feature The Accident, so sort of pleasing. I rather like the Oberland, for being so very silly.

MooncupGoddess · 26/06/2014 23:18

Triplets is slightly dreadful, yes Grin but then most of the Swiss books are slightly dreadful (bar New Mistress which is fab). They all merge into one in my recollection, I must admit.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 27/06/2014 07:01

Grüß Gott my lambs!

My favorite book when I was younger it would be a toss between Exile and Mary Lou. Because of the accident. Grin

PepeLePew · 27/06/2014 07:07

How could I have missed this thread? dd now has all my Armada copies but she's less enamoured of them than I was and says the scrapes the girls get into are "stupid" and Joey is "annoying". She may have a point there.

I would be thrilled if someone could send me a link to the transcripts - I'd like nothing better! If I can get them onto my kindle, that's even more exciting.

Off to hump my mattress and wash my face in the Splasheries.

fairnotfair · 27/06/2014 08:26

"Problem" is my favourite of the Swiss books. Because of Joanie

chocolatemademefat · 27/06/2014 08:29

I so don't get this!

fairnotfair · 27/06/2014 08:44

Don't worry, chocolate, my lamb. Get yourself over to Mrs Maynard for a chat and some English tea. Soon you will understand, and then you will be a proper Chalet girl.

TooSpotty · 27/06/2014 08:47

Oh, how could I have forgotten that Problem is a Swiss book?! Absolutely the pick of the bunch, not half.

RobinHumphries · 27/06/2014 09:11

chocolatemademefat obviously hasn't read the prospectus! Are you going to sheepdog fairnotfair?

fairnotfair · 27/06/2014 09:21

Happy to sheepdog, Robin. I'm the ideal candidate; I am a most attractive person, with merry eyes that will hopefully never need glasses and a tip-tilted nose. I will explain the language days and the dormy rules - she doesn't want to get on the wrong side of Matey on her first day!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 27/06/2014 09:28

I liked Redheads because it took the drugging to new levels.

Kidnapper drugs a child = eeeeeeeevil
Jack or Jem drugs a child = quite right too, a good night's sleep is what they need.

Love it Grin

I dropped Lady Chatterley on my foot and said 'oh fuck' without thinking. Mary Lou was passing and asked if it was some new kind of slang. I told her it was an ancient German expression meaning 'oh bother'. She can't wait to try it out on German day tomorrow Grin

JoeyMaynardsghost · 27/06/2014 11:37

No-one ever reads the prospectus! I'm beginning to suspect that no prospectus is ever sent out as the language days take every new girl by surprise! :)

RobinHumphries · 27/06/2014 11:45

But Joyce and Gillian read the prospectus (or at least look at the pictures) and so does Jacynth....

RueDeWakening · 27/06/2014 11:47

I'm reading Lintons at the moment, and their mum reads the prospectus! Shock At least, her doctor shows it to her...she had the white man's plague though so might not have been able to turn the pages to actually read it.

RueDeWakening · 27/06/2014 11:48

And I've just remembered both Linton girls reading it, because Joyce (of course) only wants to look at the photos and keeps asking Gillian to turn back, she also makes comments about their winter uniform with climbing boots etc.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 27/06/2014 11:55

I had forgotten the Lintons. I must have skim read that too effectively!

I must learn to pay attention in class.
