Pop to the splasheries my lambs and after you've brushed your hair till it shines we'll have a quick practice of 'I sing of Margaret so fair'.

Once we've finished casting the movie, that is....

Actually, maybe I will have a game of tennis after all. Stokey can I borrow your slutty short tennis dress and those frilly knickers? And if matey has confiscated my fake tan I'll kill her.

Stokey · 25/06/2014 16:58

Of course Summer I don't think Dr Jack ripped them too badly...

I second the motion for the Prees party. What's our theme?

SnowyMouse · 25/06/2014 18:14

Can anyone tell me which book has the middles looking after Biddy?

JoeyMaynardsghost · 25/06/2014 18:17

Chalet School and Jo, my lamb.

SnowyMouse · 25/06/2014 18:46

Thank you.

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 25/06/2014 18:55

You people are getting seriously out of hand! It must be the influence of that "common" Joan Baker. If you all carry on like that you'll never become true Chalet Girls, and that would be sehr triste. I'm off to fetch Joey, since she understands girls. The Abbess asked me to tell you that you must all go to bed with the Juniors for the rest of the week, so brush your hair til it shines, hop into bed, and Joey will be along shortly to sing you to sleep (if that doesn't work perhaps Matey will employ some of her special milk) and tomorrow you will all wake up feeling like proper Chaletians (don't forget it's German day tomorrow! I found that frightfully difficult when I first came, because of course I'd never read the prospectus, but now I'm in my second term, I always remember) ^runs off to Freudsheim...

Happydaysatlast · 25/06/2014 19:00

Now as for the staff. It's either appendicitis/peritonitis/ 48 hour flu/measles/chicken pox/teething fruit rash, small pox!!!, or TB (as Jem calls it the white mans plague)

They will need taking off to isolation and please get us nurses from Berne or Lucerne. Joey must not be left to cope alone so let's isolate properly...

Prees party! Jolly good. Can't wait as I missed the last one sewing sheets as I vaselined the blackboards.

Could we play the cork popping game? Apparently Bill won the prize of joeys lime green twin set but then she always was nuts in keeping herself fit.

MargiaStevens · 25/06/2014 20:36

I'm going for the teething fruit rash myself... Incidentally, has anyone heard from Corney Flower lately? I'm just reading Head Girl and wondering how on earth EBD managed to make her quite so foul at first!

Happydaysatlast · 25/06/2014 21:48

Yes Margia and actually why was she so vile? No reason.

I know her jaw was like a ram rod but really?

Still she had an accident/abducted, Joey saved her and so she's a real chaiet girl at last.

I actually really like Corney.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 25/06/2014 21:48

I'm just reading PEGGY and there's references to Eilunedd having a disagreement with Gwensi and hiding her belongings some time ago. I don't think I have missed a book apart from Jo to the rescue - does this happen in that book or is it a "remember when"plot device - much the same question about the Head Girl who failed, Marilyn Evans? She hasn't been ever mentioned in any book so far.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/06/2014 22:15

Ll my lambs, I only popped off to Wien for a week to attend the betrothal of my sister, even though term only just started. I have the betrothal cake for us all to share and guess what? Her betrothed is not only a doctor but the brother of an old girl.

Now what have I missed? What have those imps of middles been up to in my absence?

OP posts:
ToniWol · 25/06/2014 22:55

The Eilunedd stuff was never written by EBD - I think it might be covered in a fill-in though.

SolidGoldBrass · 25/06/2014 23:28

OMG the transcripts! I have done no fucking work at all for about 48 hours. Particularly revelling in Highland Twins which was always one of my favourites anyway - despite the ludicrous plots, the wartime ones tend to work (these days) because of all the details of clothes, food, daily life and stuff. At least that's what works for me. Particularly the marvellous (oops sorry Miss Annersley) description of Highlanders' underwear...

JoeyMaynardsghost · 26/06/2014 07:17

Thanks ToniWol

Solidgoldbrass the descriptions of their underwear amused me too!

In a sure breach of rules I was reading in bed lying down before 7am this morning. I'm now most way through Carola. I fully expect to need glasses before very long thus marring my beauty and hiding my pansy eyes.

Happydaysatlast · 26/06/2014 08:02

Carolas father despite being a uber clever scientist was suprised his lassie was 15! Also if he could leave his vital job to come and see her why on earth wouldn't his wife?

Also why are Melanie Lucas's parents on such a bloody long opera tour? I mean who goes on tour for literally years and leaves their kids to relatives. They would plan breaks to come home.

I suppose it's to allow Joey to mother them.

SGB love that one too especially the makeup description if the ATS girls in the beginning and them swearing.

I also like the fact that a grown man/spy/thief is so frightened at the sight of Robin and Polly in their nighties turning in the fountain he almost collapses. Head girl stuff or what.

Joey my lamb we never speak of Marylin Evans. She was evil enough to concentrate in her career and studies to the point of neglecting her head girl duties. You know it upsets you so have some milk.

fairnotfair · 26/06/2014 08:23

Ah, Marilyn Evans. I'd forgotten about her. Or rather, I blocked out the horror of a less-than-perfect CS head girl. I bet she doesn't dare show her face at a Reunion. They'd only call her fat anyway.

My lambs, I've finished all my prep, including 12 lines of repetition. If I'm not usefully occupied, I'll do something devilish, like set off a mechanical spider and frighten everyone. So could somebody be terribly kind and point me in the direction of the drop-box? Danke schon!

Summerbreezing · 26/06/2014 09:49

Bloody Prees. All in bed by 21 hrs last night so bright as daisies this morning Angry

And the staff are back on form. Matey made me wash off my fake tan and I have to spend Saturday afternoon hemming dusters Sad

Stokey · 26/06/2014 10:00

I'm reading Gay from China. There's a whole paragraph about how Bill has switched her allegiance to Nell after Con left to get married.

Rather strange that no-one realises anyone is pregnant until they actually have their baby. That episode in Lavender where Joey dyes herself green and then pops out a baby at the same time is bizarre.

And Madge thinks it isn't necessary to tell her sister about her "family extension" Hmm

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 26/06/2014 10:08

I think Gay from China is my favourite, in spite of a fairly hefty dose of Joey Interfering.

How do you pronounce Eilunedd?

JoeyMaynardsghost · 26/06/2014 10:08

Sorry to remind everyone about poor Marilyn. I'll drink my milk now but can I say to Matey I'm lactose intolerant or isn't that invented yet? She'll put it down to me eating fruit cake and sardines, I'll bet.

I read Carola's mother as not trusting her husband to be overseas without her, not that she felt he wouldn't cope without her. There is no end of the parents conveniently away for months, years at a time. Makes you wonder why they would have children? But then I suppose, a boarding school needs boarders and if they're [the parents] on important work overseas then it allows the school Half Term activities to continue with the normal cast!

I am now off to slide down the bannister of the front staircase. Because it's there and I'm a naughty imp of a middle.

Summerbreezing · 26/06/2014 10:29

I warn you Joey Matey is not in good form today. She is also going around accusing everyone of stealing her hat when we all know that ghost that looked like Jack Maynard took it.

EatingMyWords · 26/06/2014 10:35

I haven't lived in Wales for a while but I think Eilunedd is eye-lynn-eth (the th is soft as in breathe)

MooncupGoddess · 26/06/2014 10:39

Are Exile and Gay from China among the transcripts? I don't think I've ever read Gay in the original, only the hideously cut Armada version. Would be most grateful if someone could PM me the link.

Summerbreezing · 26/06/2014 10:44

Reading Lavender at the moment. I think the books set in the 40s are definitely the best ones. The ones written from the mid 50s onwards are vastly inferior to the earlier books with one or two exceptions.
I wonder why there was a four year gap between 'Joe to the Rescue' (1945) and Three go to the Chalet School (1949). Other than that EBD seemed to publish a book a year right through from the 20s to 1970.
