McDonalds and a school trip...

Truly wondering about this situation.

Long, hot day. School trip. Reception class so 4 & 5 year olds. Left at 8.30 this morning. Due back at 4pm. Finally arrived back at 6.45pm after the bus broke down on the way home. The school were communicating by text all the way through the afternoon keeping us updated.

We've just picked up the children to be told they have been fed... McDonalds. Personally, I don't mind, better that she is fed, watered and it was next to where they had broken down. Bear in mind they were waiting in a hot bus with no aircon for a replacement coach.

However other parents were shouting at the head teacher, for everyone to hear. Apparently no one ever feeds her children mcdonalds. They've never had it. Thinks it's a disgrace. Some of the dads were also agreeing.

Would you mind? Allergies and food intolerances and preferences accounted for, would you be angry enough to shout at the teachers about it?

I would rather they were fed and watered, regardless of what it was.

JimmyCorkhill · 19/06/2014 19:06

No. But I wouldn't shout at teachers anyway as that is rude. Those sorts of parents would have complained if the children hadn't been fed so the teachers couldn't win. A sensible decision was made in a rotten situation.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/06/2014 19:07

YAnBu, the other parents were! They should be grateful there kids had been fed!

ouryve · 19/06/2014 19:07

I almost never take the kids to McDonald's, but if they'd been on a broken down bus and had been fed, I would be just plain grateful that they hadn't been delivered to me hungry and fractious.

GreatSoprendo · 19/06/2014 19:07

Wouldn't mind in the slightest. Would be glad they'd been fed anything at all! I wouldn't choose a McDs myself, but if the car broke down and the kds were hungry I'd take whatever we could get.
They WBVU and ungrateful.

ilovesooty · 19/06/2014 19:08

I'm surprised teachers even want to give their time and energy to school trips any more. The head teacher should have to them where to go.

I wouldn't mind, but some people do feel incredibly strongly about what their children eat so in this situation I'd expect there to be parents that were pissed off.

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2014 19:09

Shouting at the head teacher?

They sound like a bunch of Muppets anyway, so I expect their would be no pleasing them if they'd bought M&S meals for 2.

myusernameis · 19/06/2014 19:10

The shouting parents sound like dicks.

I say that as someone who can't even stand the smell of McDs.

ICanSeeTheSun · 19/06/2014 19:10

Are you expected to pay the cost.

McDonald toys are quite good ATM, hello kitty and hot wheel cars.

ilovesooty · 19/06/2014 19:10

I bet none of them acknowledged the overtime put in by the staff or thanked them.

Andrewofgg · 19/06/2014 19:10

YANBU. Any port in a storm. Fed, watered, and found a loo, that's what matters. Health food it's not but the teachers were right to do the best they could.

coppertop · 19/06/2014 19:10

Personally I would just be grateful that the school had provided them with food and a drink. I would be saying thank you to the staff for taking care of the children for all that extra time.

Its not really an aibu is it? No-one's going to say shouting at the teachers is reasonable

TeWiSavesTheDay · 19/06/2014 19:11

Poor staff!

McDonald's not bad for allergies actually, they give quite detailed menu information in store. I certainly wouldn't have minded.

magpiegin · 19/06/2014 19:11

YANBU, would they rather their children stay on a hot broken down coach while their friends all get fed and watered? Some people are far too precious.

callamia · 19/06/2014 19:11

If ONLY they'd broken down next to a houmous and olive emporium. Those parents are idiots. I have no idea how they're going to cope with their children becoming more autonomous as they become teenagers...

BikeRunSki · 19/06/2014 19:13

My Reception child has never had a McD meal, but in this situation I wouldn't have minded at all.

MmeMorrible · 19/06/2014 19:13

The shouting ones should be ashamed of themselves. No McDonalds isn't ideal school trip for but this was an exceptional situation and in my view the school coped with it well. I suspect this is one of those times where the school couldn't possibly have pleased everyone - choices were very limited and they made the best of a bad situation.

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2014 19:17

Grin Grin

Tidypidy · 19/06/2014 19:18

Maybe the shouting was more to do with the parents having been worried all afternoon about their children being stuck on a bus. Still doesn't excuse it though.

AndHarry · 19/06/2014 19:22

How horrible for the poor old teachers!

I've never taken my DC to McD's eat plenty of it myself though but in this situation I would have though that the teachers were very sensible and been thankful that they'd taken such good care of the children in a difficult situation.
