To not want to bloody move over for latecomers

So we're at the cinema, get there nice and early to make sure we've got good seats, so far so good.

As it's orange Wednesday it's a lot busier than normal so the cinema gradually fills and is quite busy by the time the trailers starts.

THEN in waltzes the usher and asks everyone to move over to the right so they can get more people in and sit them together. We didn't move mind we just carried on watching the trailers and pretending we couldn't hear.

AIBU to think it's not right to ask the people who, knowing it's going to be especially busy on a Wednesday, get there nice and early to move from the middle to the end? Surely it's a given that everyone wants the middle seats and that's the whole point of getting there early? If you're coming in later than everyone else and there's no room for your group to sit together isn't it just tough tits?

Rant over, phewww..

Not every one wants middle seats.

YouTheCat · 19/06/2014 18:27

I never sit in the middle seats ever. I like the ones on the end, usually in a block of 3/4 - less chance of having to move for people.

pinksancerre · 19/06/2014 18:30

yanbu, unless allocated seats, it's tough luck if you arrive late

YANBU. If the cinema has feedback cards around then fill one in and say you don't like what this usher did.

Asking people to stand up to allow others to sit down before the film has started is fine. Asking people to move out of their chosen seats is not.

BrianTheMole · 19/06/2014 18:33

I wouldn't have moved either.

s88 · 19/06/2014 18:34

I'm an end seater too ! nothing worse than the middle !

Allsosad · 19/06/2014 18:35

I fucking hate it !!!! It's so rude as well

I like the ones at the end so I don't disturb anyone if I need the loo. I'm nice like that.

I wouldn't have moved. Once you're comfy it's a ball ache and they should have turned up on time. If we're ever late we don't expect people to move.

starfishmummy · 19/06/2014 18:38

I like the end too.
Ds has mobility problems so its easier for him and he's not stamping over everyone's toes to get along the row.

Runesigil · 19/06/2014 18:39

Asking people to stand up to allow others to sit down before the film has started is fine. Asking people to move out of their chosen seats is not.

Depends. If it's on opening night, yabu because the place is packed enough and they need to make seating accommodations.

VelvetEmbers · 19/06/2014 18:41

Nope. We've done the same in similar situations. It's always the group of 4/6/8 who arrive really late and wonder why they can't find seats together.

LadySybilLikesCake · 19/06/2014 18:42

"Nope. We've done the same in similar situations. It's always the group of 4/6/8 who arrive really late and wonder why they can't find seats together."

'Doh!' is the word for this.

Vintagebeads · 19/06/2014 18:43

I know at our cinema the usher points out the seats and they sit in them as they are so usually not together.I have never seen them ask anyone to move.
I really don't like middle seats either YANBU

Floralnomad · 19/06/2014 18:45

YANBU , I also would not have moved .

WendyBloomers · 19/06/2014 18:45

Fair enough if you prefer and end seat, but if the usher had his way you'd end up in the middle then!

I always go for the middle but regardless wherever you chose to sit is obviously your favourite spot so being asked to move along will mean you end up not where you want..

If it wasn't for the fact watching a topless Zac Efron for the best part of 2 hours I really would be incensed Wink

YANBU - I would not have moved either.

we always sit in the middle at the back

Ledkr · 19/06/2014 18:50

But the film hadnt started, it was the trailers.

iseenodust · 19/06/2014 18:52

WooWoo has it right.

Hoppinggreen · 19/06/2014 19:20

Once I choose my seat that's it. The only exception would be to allow a parent on their own with a child to sit together, and then only if I could still sit with the rest of my group.
A woman shouted at me for not moving once so that their party of 6 could sit together. I told her to go away and when she started yelling the people behind me joined in and told her to just sit down, she threatened to get the manager and I just laughed and said " off you go then" she humphed up to the back to find some seats.
No, yanbu.

whois · 19/06/2014 19:39

Nope. Either the cinema has allocated seating, or they don't and it's first come first served and tough luck to late comers.

gimcrack · 19/06/2014 19:43

First come, first served.
