To ignore a cupboard full of baby spiders?

I just got out a torch to retrieve a utensil from the back of a large corner cupboard in the kitchen and the light revealed many families of spiders, including a large, pre-natal mummy spider.

I'm not phobic of the 8-legged beasties, or indeed too bothered about sterile kitchen environments, but it has grossed me out a little bit.

It's a well used cupboard with all of my pots and pans in.

I can't bring myself to hoover them out so am I being unreasonable to pretend I never saw what I saw?

YANBU -do the hysterical heeby-jeeby dance around the kitchen a few times, then get the hoover to them!

AudacityOfHuge · 19/06/2014 10:39

Standard procedure for this type of event is to set your house on fire. HTH.

Birdsgottafly · 19/06/2014 10:40

There won't be a food source, except for themselves, so the little spiders will be eaten first.

Get them individually into a cup and put them outside.

I love spiders and I can't use my shed because I won't disturbed their webs, I also leave the she's door open so they are fed.

KnackeredMuchly · 19/06/2014 10:43

Argh yabu! Kill them all

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 19/06/2014 10:44

I am not scared of spiders but I wouldn't necessarily want them breeding in my cupboards!

I would try to put them elsewhere (shed or garage maybe?) if possible.

There seems to be something wrong about hoovering up a pregnant female - even if she is a spider!

MrsWinnibago · 19/06/2014 10:45

want a photo! YANBU though. they are the Guardians of the Pans and should never be disturbed or hell will be let loose on your utensil cupboard.

Melonbreath · 19/06/2014 10:45

Yabu. I would be cleaning my cupboard with a blow torch

littlepeas · 19/06/2014 10:49

I live in a spider infested Tudor cottage (lots of hidey holes) and generally leave them be unless they are huge, but I wouldn't be happy with what you describe. Can you try and individually remove them in a cup? Or get someone else to? I have been known to call dh home from work for particularly monstrous ones!

BoldBlackCherry · 19/06/2014 10:52

YY to setting the house on fire. It's the only logical thing to do. Hth Grin

badtime · 19/06/2014 10:54

I say you take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

BetsyBell · 19/06/2014 10:56

birds Ooh, they'll eat themselves will they? I need one of those nest-cam things to observe this exciting thing.

The shed is already entirely full of spiders santas

mrswinnibago Yes, I think you might be right.

Grin to setting fire to the house - I can never find any matches though...

NigellasDealer · 19/06/2014 10:57

spiders are sweet and will eat flies for you. leave them be.

BetsyBell · 19/06/2014 10:57

Melon Shock the blow torch would make their little bodies pop and crackle. WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE BABIEEEEEESS...

OP posts:
badtime · 19/06/2014 11:01

(Actually, I would try to move them outside).

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 19/06/2014 11:07

Aargh...I'd be snapping on the marigolds and ordering industrial sized bottles of chemicals. This is your pan cupboard?? They could end up in your dinner!(headless chicken alert)

Gubbins · 19/06/2014 11:11

As long as it's only pots and pans kept in there, just leave them be. I have to hoover spider eggs out of the food processor and pasta machine every time I use them and that is a pain in the arse. I do hoover up or shift the spideys, but they always come back.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/06/2014 11:11

I actually like spiders but I would Hoover them out and empty bag into outside bin straightaway. You can't have 100s of them in your kitchen cupboard.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/06/2014 11:12

I normally do cup and paper thing but not with so many babies.

BetsyBell · 19/06/2014 11:13

Warning! Pictures! Egg sac mummy spider and one of the families. Cupboard filth is old bits of web so I think many other families have passed through.

TBH I have had to remove spiders from some of the pans as I've got them out the cupboard for weeks but I hadn't realised the scale of the nesting until now.

I think there's been fewer fruit flies in the kitchen this summer. I prefer spiders to fruit flies.

At least it sounds like they're not the size of bloody aliens!

TheHappyMonkey · 19/06/2014 11:23

Jesus. I think I would close the door and never open it again. Just replace whatever's in there and accept that cupboard doesn't exists any more.

UrethraFranklin · 19/06/2014 11:24

I wonder if the spiders have been having sex in your pans.

Birdsgottafly · 19/06/2014 11:26

You are Evil personified!

Free the innocents!

AndHarry · 19/06/2014 11:27

I get this on one particular cupboard all through the summer. It doesn't matter what you do, they will keep coming back. I now tend to ignore them.

Spiders aren't my favourite thing but as long as they don't have thick legs I manage. DS has a spindly one in a corner of his bedroom. He says goodnight to it and gets cross if any more spiders come into his room as "I already have a pet spider to eat the flies mummy!" :o
