I mean, she is just bloody gorgeous, isn't she? Stunning.

I know a couple of people who have bumped into HBC around London and they both say that she's far more beautiful in person than she appears on screen. And I think she looks pretty good on screen! The Vogue cover she did last year was stunning too.

Rachel Weisz is another one - went to see her in Streetcar Named Desir thinking "surely she won't look that beautiful in the flesh" and in a way I was right - in the flesh she is even more beautiful!

Emmanuelle Beart used to be gorgeous but alas has had far too much facial work done now.

Bambambini · 19/06/2014 16:34

can see where she gets her fashion sense!

MrWalletwithMothsonboard · 19/06/2014 16:42

Audrey Tatou for me. She is seriously beautiful. Do love HBC too though.

Grumpyoldblonde · 19/06/2014 16:44

How I love HBC, I always thought she should play Bridget Jones, I also love, love Cate Blanchett

OnlyLovers · 19/06/2014 17:44

The article I read about her friendship with the Camerons was quite equivocal about the actual politics –she certainly didn't say she was or wasn't a Tory.

One can hope ...

kerstina · 19/06/2014 17:45

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder! I think she is very pretty but not beautiful. In the past I have been likened to her and a few others and I was far more flattered to be told I look a bit like Penelope Cruz I think she has a far more magnetic quality on screen too.

Chipstick10 · 19/06/2014 18:18

Isn't there a chance she might just really like dave and samcam purely as people ,as friends with no politics attached? I think she is beautiful for the record, and I don't get the Tilda love snd I used to love Emma Thompson and now she makes me cringe she is a total old Lovie who has put her foot in it Gweneth stylee a few times lately. I prefer her sister Sophie

HouseBaelish · 19/06/2014 18:47

I actually don't get the bother about her political affiliations either

She ran into the PM on a walk - hardly makes her a card carrying member. And actually, what if she is. It's not like she's a raging supporter of the BNP or something Grin

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 19/06/2014 18:53

HBC's family home is near me - when I used to work in a shop as a student she came in a few times with her brother (?) and little boy who was a toddler at the time. Didn't realise it was her until I saw the card she paid with! Very normal person!

tobiasfunke · 19/06/2014 18:57

She was raving about Cameron in The Guardian last week.

'A man of real compassion' my arse.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 19/06/2014 19:35

Marion Cotillard is amazing looking
She's the person I would look like if I could

ThirteenHorses · 19/06/2014 20:22

Meh. Just looked her up on Wiki, this made me pmsl

"Bonham Carter was denied admission to King's College, Cambridge, not because of her academic performance, but because college officials were afraid that she would leave during the course to pursue her acting career."

Roughly translated - "Helena Bonham-Carter did not get into Cambridge."

I think that she is beautiful and amazing. I remember she did a made for TV thing about a family with autism a few years ago: she played the mother. She is awesome.

YesJesseARobot · 19/06/2014 20:37

"Dodgy mates" Grin

YANBU. She is stunning and seems to get better looking every year.

I like the fact that she and her DP have separate houses. I would so do that if I had the money.

I couldn't believe how teeny tiny her Harry Potter costumes were at Warner Brothers.

TerrifiedMothertobe · 19/06/2014 20:47

Her country house is very near us, and my husband and father are both in love. Neither has yet sat outside her house to offer a kiss but, they are close. Our decorator painted for her and said her and her dH are lovely.

I think she is beautiful. A real english quirky beauty.

Elsiequadrille · 19/06/2014 23:10

She is beautiful I agree.

JohnCusacksWife · 19/06/2014 23:32

She's gorgeous, quirky & truly British. Love that shes not groomed to within an inch of her life like so many celebs are. i think HBC will be one of those women who look amazing at 80.....shes got the bones for it. Tilda seems a bit up herself and overly serious in comparison.

Also don't get all the snide comments about her politics and/or personal friends. Have no idea what her own personal politics are but voting Conservative is something many, many people in this country do so if she's one of them what's the big deal?

mrsjavierbardem · 19/06/2014 23:37

Only lovers, yes of course ken was just as guilty, I was being a bit flippant! Also who knows what went on?

Re kids in economy and A list parent in first class. I have heard that is NOT uncommon. Apparently the joliepitts do it sometimes. It's to do with if the parents are working and need to sleep then deffo stick the offspring in steerage! God help me WHO WOULDN'T? Plane travel is the ultimate strain on parental love! My daughter age 2 and crawling under the seat in front for hours on end with me ill and dry sobbing and thinking that crashing would have its benefits..
I would stick a child in the back as quickly as I could blink. Take em, feed em, keep them away from me, I'm working! I have to go speak for the UNHCR in the Gambia and learn my lines for 2 days time: yes they can buy what they like from the inflight catalogue just keep them away from mummy I'm in one of these nice beds mmmmm

howrudeforme · 19/06/2014 23:39

Oh tilda and hbc

cantseemtohaveitall · 19/06/2014 23:40

I've met her and apart from being much shorter than you imagine (as actors often are) I'm afraid I didn't find her that striking in the flesh. Quite ordinary looking if you take away the crazy clothes and hair.

And also older looking than on screen...

TheEnchantedForest · 19/06/2014 23:52

Charlotte Gainsbourg-yes!

LastMinuteLil · 20/06/2014 00:05

That it's unusual for actors, is all, I suppose. Although, given her family background, not so much in her case.

I still like her, but confess to being a little disappointed at her mateyness with the Camerons but that is only because I dislike their politics so much. It is perfectly possible that they are really good company.

Quite apart from her looks, I think she is very talented and she makes interesting career choices. I mostly admire her for those choices and the diverse work that she's done.

Bogeyface · 20/06/2014 00:54

I do think HBC is very beautiful but I prefer ET in both looks and attitude. ET doesnt take herself seriously and seems to suffer with the syndrome of needing to act all the time she is "on" which I can relate to, the same as Peter Kay cant be himself either.

But looks wise I fully intend to look like Jennifer Saunders when I grow up, she is so pretty and smiley and just looks naturally beautiful and has a radiance about her that only truly content people have. I am 41 but there is still time!

OnlyLovers · 20/06/2014 11:11

mrsjavier, fair enough. I hadn't thought about the fact that they might be flying somewhere for work and need the rest!

I can't find the full text of her Cameron interview now, but it really did read as though she was being careful not to state her politics at all, which suggests that either she's a Tory and doesn't want to admit it or she's left-wing and doesn't want to be rude about a couple who are her friends.

It's just struck me that it's interesting how she's held up, on this thread and generally, as exemplifying 'classic British' looks when her background includes Czech, French, Austrian, Jewish and Spanish blood. Just goes to show what a fascinating mix the 'British' really are, and how nonsensical are ideas about 'pure' English or British people.
