Becca just to derail the thread a bit have you thought of writing a journal for your DD of all the things you want her to know.

I had to write a letter of wishes last year in case I didn't recover from a surgery and this stimulated me to write this for my DD. It is in digital format as a single parent, a trusted friend holds the file in confidence.
Whilst I was waiting for the surgery it helped me to work through the anger that there was a I chance I wouldn't see her grow up. I cried a lot whilst I wrote it, but at the end I felt more settled as the thoughts are there for her even if I m not.

Gosh, what an emotional read this thread is,so many things mentioned that make me blub.

The ones that make me cry the most are, when massed piped bands play at The Edinburgh Tattoo.

Mr Holland's Opus, when all of his past students perform his music at the end of the film.

The Living Years by Mike And The Mechanics.
Everybody Hurts by REM.
Drive by The Cars.

And Save Me, by Queen.

kali110 · 16/06/2014 13:55

Two songs that remind me of my dad or thinking that he will never meet any grandchildren

CPtart · 16/06/2014 14:31

Yes to brass bands and Christmas carols. Also, any song by Queen (who my dad loved).
Have Ds1 year 6 leavers assembly next month and am welling up at the very thought!! Dreading it.

KateSMumsnet · 16/06/2014 14:37

The story of when Pookie the Rabbit with Wings gets stolen by the circus. It's an old book of my mother's and even thinking about it makes me tear up.

"You kneel to no-one" said by Aragorn to the hobbits at the end of Return of the King, in the coronation scene.

(Viggo Mortensen is beautiful even in That Beard.)

LastMinuteLil · 16/06/2014 14:49

SmallPress, you just reminded me of another of mine - in LOTR when you see the beacons being lit one after the other. (And I agree about Viggo Wink)

Also, the last page of The Mousehole Cat, I never managed to get through it without a lot of gulping and blinking. I tried to, though, otherwise: "Are you crying, Mummy? Why are you crying?" Blush

FengMa · 16/06/2014 14:50

Oh from Les Mis when JVJ sings "him live" and, also, when Fontine comes for him... Misty just typing.

Also, national anthem playing when medallists are on the podium, 80s theme to black beauty, Christmas carols, Forrest Gump. Oh and Steel Magnolias; Sally Field slays me. Sob.

Fenton · 16/06/2014 14:51

How long will I love you - Ellie Goulding.

I think of my love for my children and it sets me off EVERY TIME.

FengMa · 16/06/2014 14:51

let him live

Oh and the Dambuster's March. Gulp.

quellerosiel · 16/06/2014 15:06

"I love you daddy" at the end of The Little Mermaid at her wedding... oh god I'm tearing up typing!! Wedding in six weeks, I predict I will be a hot mess!

thebodylovesspring · 16/06/2014 15:44

Dambusters when he came home and his dog had died

squatcher · 16/06/2014 16:06

Had to skip a few pages as this thread has me blubbing but yes to lots of these (especially the beginning of Up and the end of Toy Story 3).

To add a few:

The end of Mill on the Floss - probably my biggest public blubbing ever reading it on the Tube
Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials) - when Lyra leaves Pan behind
The end of Dr Zhivago when he sees Lara but she doesn't see him - actually just the music sets me off...
Breakfast at Tiffany's - when Holly finds Cat in the rain - and whenever I hear Moon River.

FairVerona · 16/06/2014 16:07

The final scene of Blackadder with the poppies. I'm welling up now thinking about it.

ConferencePear · 16/06/2014 16:12

The RAF march past music. I don't know its proper name.

Handled amd acted beautifully by the whole cast. Respectful and utterly heartbreaking.
