I get this impression and have no idea why - is this my imagination or is this the case?

Where are you originally from?

I am thoroughly English.

Cereal is for Monday to Friday. Sausage is for Saturday.
That is not a euphemism.

pissedglitter · 13/06/2014 22:45

Mintchoc you need some vodka in that bru

EddieStobbart · 13/06/2014 22:46

I only knew baffies from reading the Broons. But then we never got Glenn Michael's Cavalcade because we had rubbish Border TV and I think that has had a fundamental impact, weakening my essential feeling of Scottishness through a removal of what I perceive to be a key cultural reference point.

Why as a child did I need to know what was happening in Cumbria, why?

pissedglitter · 13/06/2014 22:46

Square sausage, tattie scone and fried onions on a roll is a Sunday breakfast

whitepuddingsupper · 13/06/2014 22:47

I remember the German teaching assistant at my school being utterly confused that "juice" covers pretty much any cold drink in Scotland that's not milk, water or alcoholic. Apparently in Germany they only use it for something that has actually originated from a piece of fruit, not so over here Grin.

My sister lives in Cumbria. Pre digital switchover she used to get Scottish news.

WildThong · 13/06/2014 22:49

pissed is that because the onion counts as a Sunday vegetable? Grin

because allegedly we Scots don't eat fruit and veg, what a load of shite

Blondieminx · 13/06/2014 22:49

Confirmed Southerner here Grin

OOAOML · 13/06/2014 22:49

Clearly I am not properly Scottish as I only like cooked breakfasts on holiday when someone else has cooked them.

ToAvoidConversation · 13/06/2014 22:51

Scottish

OOAOML · 13/06/2014 22:52

I think a lot of Scots don't eat that healthily bit then so do lots of other people in the UK. And probably other countries as well. We haven't ended up with a Western world obesity crisis by overdoing the salad.

ilovepowerhoop · 13/06/2014 22:52

I dont have onions in my breakfast roll - that would be weird! tomato ketchup on mine (or red sauce)

scottishmummy · 13/06/2014 22:52

pissedglitter · 13/06/2014 22:53

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 13/06/2014 22:54

I am currently sitting on the settee wearing my baffies.

OOAOML · 13/06/2014 22:55

I wonder if Scottish posters post more? Who is it who keeps spreadsheets on that stuff?

EddieStobbart · 13/06/2014 22:55

We couldn't get the Scottish version of BBC2 because the signal missed us and had to be bounced back from Cumbria. It seemed that they could be bothered to do this for BBC1 but not BBC2. It was handy sometimes because if the TV scheduling was different because of football or something and you'd missed the start of a film it was sometimes possible to catch it on the other BBC1.

Border TV was still appalling though. I'll never forget the weird valentine's day show when they thought they'd highlight the romantic side of the presenters - one wrote Mills & Boon books in her spare time, another crooned a cheesy Daniel O'Donnell-esque ballad. Totally bizarre.

scottishmummy · 13/06/2014 22:55

Baffies,slippers?

GoldenGytha · 13/06/2014 22:55

whitepudding

XH was English and used to go spare at me calling every cold liquid juice!

rockybalboa · 13/06/2014 22:55

Not Scottish. Don't live in Scotland.

AlwaysLookOnBrightsideOfLife · 13/06/2014 22:56

Originally NI - probably not a million miles from where Trooperslane was.

ReggieJones · 13/06/2014 22:56

I would walk 500 miles
and I would walk 500 more

ilovepowerhoop · 13/06/2014 22:57

I agree that juice can be squash, fizzy juice, fresh fruit juice, etc. I do call water water though.

OOAOML · 13/06/2014 22:58

I only use juice for juice - which would mainly be squash or fruit juice.
